George and Pete played well together. Think my old ass brain remembers hearing that George gave Pete his SG from Revolver that Pete played on this. Five 👍s up on this Sam!!!! For the record, Pete was a terrific guitarist, not just an acoustic player at MSG. For the record, hope their manager is roasting marshmallows in between Atilla the Hun and Shitler
I always liked Badfinger, and this is my favorite song from them. They have plenty of obscure songs that I think are really good as well, such as "And Her Daddy's A Millionaire" and "Maybe Tomorrow." A song for every mood, really.
Holy shittt, I was just getting into Badfinger this past month or two. I’ve been adoring Straight Up for weeks now, and to see this? Quite the coincidence. Great job, of course. Imagine you did a Baby Blue cover 👀
midway through the video I had to reqd the description to make sure that the slide guitar was from George Harrison I was right his style is so recognizable I like Badfinger but I didn't know the song, nice cover
Wow, astounding playing! You did an excellent job! If I may recommend another Badfinger song, Rock of All Ages is a classic with a bunch of sweet solos and fills! Again, stellar cover! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks for the Badfinger cover. Fantastic, as always. I’d love to see a guitar cover of the album track “Sometimes”. Some great guitar from Pete and Joey on that one.
Awesome cover, Sam!! As a Badfinger fan myself, at the moment I read the title of the video, I already felt good because I know no one could've made a better cover than you!
I can't belive that! I have discovered Badfinger 2 months ago and have been in love with their music ever since! Could you cover "Believe Me" or "Better Days" from "No Dice" the next time?
I remember finding out about you Every day, my mind is all around you Looking out from my lonely room Day after day Bring it home, baby, make it soon I give my love to you I remember holding you while you sleep Every day, I feel the tears that you weep Looking out of my lonely gloom Day after day Bring it home, baby, make it soon I give my love to you 🎵 Looking out of my lonely room Day after day Bring it home, baby, make it soon I give my love to you I remember finding out about you Every day, my mind is all around you Looking out of my lonely gloom Day after day Bring it home, baby, make it soon I give my love to you
beautiful tune great job as usual. this is def. their best album too. btw, two guys were welsh two guys were english so they were not entirely a welsh band.
Nicely done! I tried doing this recording myself like this multi tracking myself into oblivion but could never get the slide to sound as "right" as you got it here. I do miss the piano though. I think it might've been the "Mrs. Mills" one they used.
Id love to see you cover badfingers "Constitution" Perfection and Shine on oh especially Matted Spam" matted spam really has a upbeat soul sound going on!
Beautifully done and thanks for all the cool info in the description. *Quick question:* On the "wall of sound"-ish parts with the two 6-strings and two 12-strings strumming, did you actually play each one twice or put the same performance on two different tracks, sort of like ADT? When I step through it looking at your hands they look almost identical but there are a few spots like @2:04 where your strumming hand looks slightly different.
@@sampopkin It's amazing your technique is so consistent in every motion and hand shape - like a basketball player's release on a 3-pointer or something.
I agree haha, it’s what the vocals are doing so it makes sense. They probably recording the acoustics in the backing track first before the melody was recorded
I can’t remember, the metal slide is one I bought in person and it’s really old. The glass one might be a Dunlop, I’m not sure. It has a very thick wall
I’d love to hear more Badfinger covers. Pete Ham had an amazing tone
You do know George plays the solo (as if you couldn’t tell)
@@joesasser4421Pete and George played the solo together! Check description
That harmony slide part is pure six string heaven by George ! Nice playing

Straight Up is one of my all-time favorite albums. You nailed it!
I’ve always loved the multitracked compressed sound of the acoustic guitars on this record. Leon Russell’s piano is also gorgeous.
danggg really?!? I always thought it was an electric for the rhythm!
There is just something about that slide man, so haunting and so beautiful
It's called George Harrison❤😊
Sound like Indian, for some reason
YES!! More Badfinger!!
Man, BadFinger doesn’t get enough love ❤️
Excellent break down. 🎧
Baby Blue is another stellar song by BF. Great job, Sam. 💜🔉🎸
Oh yeah. Sam should do a cover on that, that would be sick
a good way to end a season
You should do baby blue

Ooo this is a good one. Pete Ham played on George's SG.

I've got that EXACT story like yours. Straight Up is ADDICTING.
HELL YEAH!!! This is awesome Sam!
Love that song. And almost the entire Straight Up albun !
Nailed it on the head! Amazing job!
midway through the video I had to reqd the description to make sure that the slide guitar was from George Harrison
I was right
his style is so recognizable
I like Badfinger but I didn't know the song, nice cover
Awesome slide work Sam! I didn't know it was double tracked. More Badfinger covers please,
Great! As always!!
YES!!!!!! LOVE this song
I've always wanted to see if I could sing along to this song, so thanks for playing an absolutely spot-on instrumental of this gorgeous classic!
Just Wonderful.
Unexpected and amazing well done
The slide guitar in this song, was made by George Harrison. Well done, congrats.
Beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous tone all around!
Wonderful! This music is from Godzilla x Kong at the ending scene
Wow, astounding playing! You did an excellent job! If I may recommend another Badfinger song, Rock of All Ages is a classic with a bunch of sweet solos and fills! Again, stellar cover! Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks! That’s another great song, written by McCartney I believe
Baby Blue next?

Aw thanks ❤️
Friggen gorgeous cover my man!
What gets lost is how good Joey Molland was and especially in this song.

Amazing cover👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
nice cover!
The blue strat is George i think😂 great version. Please again - make a cover Midnight Sun, Maybe tomorrow or I can' t take it. Greetings from Poland 👋
That song was featured in the new (trash) godzilla movie for some reason.
Great cover mate keep it up !
beautiful tune great job as usual. this is def. their best album too. btw, two guys were welsh two guys were english so they were not entirely a welsh band.
George: I'm the best.

Thanks! Yeah Leon’s piano makes the whole song
Wonderful job man, pure quality and very accurate. Will you upload Baby Blue...some day?
Absolutely! Thanks
Thank you, bro! I love your covers. Greetings from Lima - Perú
Tuning for slide parts?
Standard
Id love to see you cover badfingers "Constitution" Perfection and Shine on oh especially Matted Spam" matted spam really has a upbeat soul sound going on!
This is great, please do more BF 👍
You should do No Matter What by Badfinger.
Pete Ham
Not bad bro. Can’t wait till you try some Stones.

Thanks Kevin. Great question. These are all 4 completely different takes, no doubling
@@sampopkin It's amazing your technique is so consistent in every motion and hand shape - like a basketball player's release on a 3-pointer or something.
@@kevinmoore4237 haha thanks! You can see though on one of my Martins I make some mistakes
@@sampopkin What's the time stamp?
@@kevinmoore4237 around :54 the top left Martin I forgot the chords
why does the slide do that at the start😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Great, you just have to add the piano part in a future version.
I always thought the acoustic part was E - Asus4 - A -E
Same. But listened closely and they stay on A major
@@sampopkin Oh! i might be crazy but to my ears it sounds better if you play the Asus4 haha
I agree haha, it’s what the vocals are doing so it makes sense. They probably recording the acoustics in the backing track first before the melody was recorded
Great! Are you open to collaborating on covers?
Yes usually with my very good friends
At the end of the verse, it looks like some of the acoustics are doing root minor chords but some are doing an Add11, or am I mistaken?
Yes some of them are doing normal A G#m F#m E bar chords, and others do X66400 X44200 etc.
@@sampopkin Thank you sir!
what kind of slide brand do you use?

So George used the Les Paul and Strat in unison?
Pete Ham on SG, George on Strat
in unison
@@sampopkin I forgot they did it together!
please do a cover from Magic Christian Music

Rock hall band that will not get in.
Probably not but they deserve it 😿
