I could honestly watch those 5 talk for hours!
It’s clear they all love each other. What an amazing band.
But in fact the thing I didn't like is that Lisa didn't say a word
Wendy is definitely the talker of the band. Her lines in 'Purple Rain' were spot-on with who she really is.
I was just thinking that, She is talking more than the others.
Her twin sister Susannah Melvoin was in a serious relarionship with Prince.im sure her sister probably revealed intimate things about her and Prince... that Wendy carries around to this day
Wendy always struck me as Prince's chief lieutenant in the Revolution...the second-in-command.

And still after he is dead she still doesn't know when to shut up and let other people have a chance to speak.
@@mclal ,you can be right,Wendy talked too much,but i like that much more than musicians just do their job and are "passiv" in their own communication.
To me,the Revolutiin,was a interactive band of musicians to Prince his ideas,they were more or less co-writers in the music of Prince and added ideas and arrangements to this.
The band Third Eyed Girl,is to me the opposit reality to that,with them,i feel/hear no added value in Prince his music.And for sure ,Prince decided how and what happend.
Personnally,i wouldn't like to work for Prince(when he should be still alive),cause you have to be a slave to his music,ideas and program and that's very disrepectfully to other humans.
I feel more like Jerry Auerswald(the man that created the Symbol guitar and the guitar with the sustainbow),who told Prince that when ever he had to repair a guitar that he builded for Prince,with a broken headstock,he would kick him in the ass.Prince smiled when he was told .
Life is about interaction,learning things and experiences, it's not a solo tour about your geniusment.
I've had my very best friend Frank Kwee(R.I.P),a great guitar/bassplayer,fisherman,soccerplayer and filosopher,he was leading and inspiring a lot of people with the things he did,but what he liked in our frienship,was that we were opposit,in culture,visions and different talents,but at the same level.
He played as bassplayer in a band called CAZ,with Dilana Smith,they were an alternativ coverband in the Netherlands and quite succesfull.
They played also own songs and one of that was a song called Nana Blue.
Erwin Musper(producer of records with Chicago a.o.) liked this song very much, introduced this song to 3 Major recordcompanies in the US and he went with 3 label managers ,joined by Adrian van den Burg(Whitesnake) to see CAZ live performance at a smaller festival in Vorden(Beachpop).
After they heard this song performed,sightstage,it was only "thumbs up" from the label managers,they realy felt it was potentially "a number One song".
But it didn't work out(ego ).
So "talking too much" is to me much better than "talking too less".
Prince was tuned into something deeply spiritual. He had fundamental awareness of how to manifest your reality. He was such a huge part of my life growing up. All of these people were on my bedroom wall. Such a huge loss, but what a legacy!
They are so genuine in their love, respect and, yes, awe of Prince. Great interview.
They grew up with him.They were with him when he dreamed of being a star.To when he became an icon.So , their feeling's are deep.
Growing up in the 80, The Revolution is the best band with Prince! Especially Wendy and Lisa! Love them!

Awesome portion of the interview. The fact that Prince was comfortable with is masculine and feminine went through his band and connected with his audience and ultimately his fans. We are all better for him being in our worlds and his music and influence changed the world.
It's so nice to see people you idolized so many years ago turn out to be such nice, humble people.
man..i miss those days so much. i feel like i grew up with these guys, they were the one's (along with dez and andre) that delivered that magical sound we know as prince. this was his only band where everybody was a star, his later bands (tho supremely talented) just felt like temporary stand-ins...the same as his other women after vanity. this was his soulmate band!

I love that he ended on that line from Uptown, "White, Black, Puerto Rican everybody just a freakin'..."
I enjoyed this immensely. the Revolution is a great band. they all seem down to earth not at affected by their fame. Wendy looks like a typical " girl next door type " .love her. love the way they are all sitting telling stories about Prince so relaxed so real. love them all.

Prince's great quintet makes you feel as if you're hanging out with your brothers and sisters or having a conversation with them because they seem really kind and down-to-earth. Thanks so much for posting this great video!
I saw Prince 5 times with 4 different bands and the Revolution was first, being a part of his foundation and they were in awe of him, partly because of his ambition and drive, along with great talent but I'm sure he was getting what he needed from them too. Personally I saw the first 2 shows of the Lovesexy tour in Minneapolis, that was a musical extravaganza, everything he did on that tour was polished and he was a superstar. Revolution as a band was tight, and I know you guys put in the work necessary to be world famous and I hope you are proud of what you gave to him too.
I love every revolution member you changed my life. I'm 45 without that music that I related too I would not be here. Prince taught me romance and love and freedom. I love the revolution

I can't help but think that after all the work and success Prince achieved, essentially making his life a movie and creating his persona, he felt lonely in his later years. He said himself he would die without music and I believe that. Say what you want about his devotion to god, love, sex, whatever, it was the music that was his only true friend in the end, and that can be a double-edged sword.
I love to see and hear this now after sering The Revolution perform last weekend. They were amazing and really friendly. Go see them if you can.

Prince was the modern day "Beethoven or Mozart"! "He was "IT" no exceptions! I will always love him! As a woman in 12/29/2018! I loved Prince all of my 51 years of life! He has always been and will always be the man who introduced me to music and sound! I thank "God" or whatever higher being allowed me to live at this time to allow me to hear him as an artist!

I have been on concert 3 times. Always first row just in front of Prince. And it's true.... I can feel that this guy is not from this space. His aura was almost half stage big. He was like god in front of us. And I never ever felt that with any other human in my entire life.

I love this period of Prince's career. These guys are a huge part of my youth. I've been a huge fan of Prince from the first time I heard him.

Just watched Purple Rain - what a talent!
Saw him in concert a few years back - the most talented artist I have ever seen and friendly too 😊
Could listen to the Revolution or NPG or his Sign o' the time bands tell stories for days and weeks and months and years without every being bored.........
Another Revolution member, guitarist Dez Dickerson once described his meeting with Prince as such.
In 1979 he saw the advert of "Minneapolis based artist with recording contract is seeking guitar player" back then there was only one guy from that area who indeed had a record contract and that was of course Prince. So Dez applied and went to the audition where he arranged with the other hopefuls to go on first since he needed to be at a gig that same evening.
Prince and the nucleus of what would eventually become The Revolution, Bobby Z and Andre Cymone, arrived two hours late with no explanation or apologies. Which as Dez would later find out is a "way of life" Took their place on stage, Bobby and Andre on drums and bass respectively and Prince on Keyboards, Dez plugged in and started playing Rhythm along with the airtight groove that Prince, Bobby and Andre were laying down. At some time Prince nodded at Dez which meant "Play a solo" and so Dez soloed but didn't do flashy stuff, just what made sense in the musical structure.
After a few more minutes Dez excused himself because he still had that gig to play. That's when the first words spoken all evening came from Prince's mouth, telling Dez he'd walk him out. Prince asked Dez a lot of questions, what was his view on where he would envision himself in the future, did he have a good bond with his family, about his growth as a musician. Dez later realized that prince was asking him all that because he wanted to know how Dez would handle Prince's unstoppable musical drive and how he would be able to handle touring as a member of the Revolution.
Dez drove off, not yet realizing that his life had just changed forever.

I'm thankful to the Revolution and The Time for embarking on a Prince tribute tour for the people that loved him the most. It was very special and I'm glad they saw that the need for friends to see them again. I bawled my eyes out and his sprint was there which seemed to be everywhere all at once.

The Revolution is the only band of Prince’s that I would truly want to meet because they were with him when he headed into superstardom and burst it wide open!

THIS Revolution, even the '1999' Revolution AND the Counter Revolution, but specifically THIS THE Revolution is the most important band in Prince's career, the apex if you will. Because it's THIS band that HE created, he SHAPED into, as an artist, with his very own unique vision, into the band that would best represent who he was, what his music can live at concerts and in how the image was projected if you will. The IMMEDIATE post great bands like the '87 SOTT/Lovesexy Bands were a continuation of The Revolution but with different 'colors', with different levels of talents that could take Prince further and grow in other areas. These members or Prince's band became like purple paint brushes or extensions of Prince's 'culture' that he created. Prince if you really look and listen closely, was always promoting finding yourself, your voice, your palette, he oozed and promoted the American value of INDIVIDUALITY. And thus, each of his band members were part of his culture, and an extension of him but also expressed their own individuality and how differences could become a whole. There's something to learn in all this and it's why Prince was and is a 'musicians' rock star. In my view, later bands, especially starting around the mid 90s lost sight of that and were hired hands so to speak, very talented but not part of the culture so much, so they never really were as captivating and interesting as The Revolution was, and is, they didn't share a vision like The Revolution and the SOTT/LS and early NPG bands did. .::Modernaire
wendileona You hit the nail on the head. There was no other band’s chemistry like The Revolution’s with Prince. He never harmonized with anyone else like he did with Wendy and Lisa. His stage presence and show was about them--together. Later years and in later performances he either WAS the show or he showcased the talents that shared the stage with him. The Revolution was the only band he was TIGHT with. At least I saw it with them--not with any others. I’m a fan and have been one since the early days...
What still amazes me to this day is the fact that, at such a young age, when he was forming The Revolution, he KNEW already exactly what he wanted to achieve with them (formulating his/their image), so instinctively and he made it come to fruition. He is just amazing to have the foresight at that point in his life. It’s like it was something inside of him moving him toward where he was going to end up. He does seem other world-ly in so many ways. It just will always amaze me about him.
There all so comfortable with each other, after knowing each other for so many years. Like how they sit together/fir together. That being said it's unfortunate that Lisa didn't say anything.

When asked to put together his dream band in an interview, he named Wendy & Lisa, then Sheila E, and when accepting awards over the years, he thanked Wendy and Lisa for their talent & contributions. In his unfinished autobiography he spoke about their immense talent, how they met, and how Lisa's shyness almost cost her the opportunity to be in the band. He loved those two dearly despite having to move on from The Revolution, truly the best and most defining band he ever had.

Seen the Revolution twice since Prince's passing. Once at House of Blues in San Diego. About 10 feet from the stage. What great performers in their own right. Brought back so many memories, great concert. Was an early Prince fan since the late 70's. Was fortunate to catch Prince and the Revolution Purple Rain Tour at the Forum in Inglewood/LA in the 80's. Nothing like taking a date to the beach at night and playing the Controversy cassette tape with a bottle of wine. When Do Me Baby came on the party started. Ahhhh to young again. : )
Their tribute tour to Prince was excellent and cathartic! I hope they stay together and do some more live shows at the 5 year and 10 year anniversaries of his passing because they sounded great! They were keeping his music alive and his memory and legacy! They are his original band that he became famous with! The tour was successful and people wanted to feel closer to Prince through his live band. They did it! 👏🏻🎸😎

I was in a cover band called Dr Fink, very successful on my island (Tasmania), I was also in an original band that won a Yamaha sponsored competition that ended in Japan. This band was called Fink. We were totally focused on Prince music, James Brown, and so many others. I (as keyboard player) wore scrubs often, in homage to Dr Fink on the left of the couch. $0.02

I love Prince. There are no words to express his...power. But let me just say this, without the revolution, something was missing. It’s always gonna be Prince AND the Revolution for me. I was looking at the performance Prince did with Tom Petty's band at the rock and roll hall of fame. I knew Prince was a good guitar player, but after I saw that I was speechless.
Dunno if you've seen it or if it's still up here on youtube but I will NEVER forget the searing version they did of Purple Rain on the Grammys in '85. I'd been a fan since Controversy so got to see his rise but that 21 minnute version of Purple Rain left me in tears. That was power. He was positivly on fire and that solo he did--- WOW

I wish that Bobby Z, had mentioned that the original Sly & The Family Stone drummer was Greg Errico, was caucasian. Andy Newmark, came later on, and I'm pretty sure that Andy Newmark, didn't play on Sly's & Family Stone's legendary albums.
