It's just feels like such a cruel "gift". I knew at the age of 6 that I'll never want my own biological kids. So all this pain with ovulation, periods and much more awful IBS during them, feels like I suffer for nothing 😓😭

Thanks so much for this, excellent timing as always! I've always experienced terrible IBS around my period, swinging from constipation to diarrhoea. I've looked into it a few times but your explanation was by far the easiest to grasp. I love the reference to the seasons too. This is definitely something I plan on exploring more as I move into peri-menopause.

Same! It's somehow easier to cope with if I understand why it's happening. There's actually a sequel for the Period Power book that's all about peri-menopause which is definitely on my to-read list.

Such an insightful video Carrie. I can totally relate to the IBS - D symptoms and the menstrual cycle. I am now past menopause and can confirm that the cyclical nature of IBS and the extra pains of menstruation on the gut no longer affect me. I still suffer with IBS, but the additional stress of having all those hormones flying around has now gone. The silver lining to getting older!!

This is very helpful in that this explanation relieves some of the anxiety surrounding my IBS-M symptoms. My cycle seems somewhat different, though, and I believe that’s due to peri menopausal hormone changes. My “summer and Spring” are both difficult times of the month lately, and my “Autumn” seems to be the best time of the month for my anxiety. I also have PMDD.

Thanks so much for this insightful video! I was diagnosed with IBS this summer but a book I found at the library suggested investigating other things too as IBS can often be misdiagnosed. I pressed on and have now learned I also have endometriosis. It would be so helpful to learn about the link between these two. Interestingly, I’ve recently learned that some people have had success managing endometriosis symptoms with LowFODMAP.
If you’re keen to learn more about endometriosis I would highly recommend a podcast called Unheard Of: The Hidden Voices of Endometriosis. It’s been a really interesting resource and worth a listen.
Thanks so much for sharing your journey and knowledge Carrie. Your channel & website have been wonderful resources.

Oh how I wish I could give 13 year old Carrie that book! (link to Audible here: amzn.to/32GYjBF)
Ideas for future videos on this topic: Endometriosis, PCOS, Gut health/IBS around peri-menapause, hormonal contraception and gut health. Please comment if you have other suggestions? x

Love your videos Carrie! I have been on a low fodmap diet since three weeks, in full elimination phase 😅 it's not yet clear to me whether I have IBS, or whether I'm intolerant to gluten and/or lactose, or maybe all of them at the same time 🥴 I recently read something on undiagnosed gluten intolerance potentially triggering infertility, could this be the same with IBS? Would love to learn more about this topic. Thanks ever so much, and keep going, you're doing an amazing job!!! 💜

I would love to learn more about this topic and menstrual cycle impact on energy and health in general. Also, I definitely have gastrointestinal health problems but have yet to find a good doctor. Any tips on how to find affordable professional help would be great.

Really enjoying this video, paused it mid-way through.m to write a question! I’m on the depo-Vera injection, I’ve been on it for years. This is progesterone-only, do you think this could be making my symptoms worse?

This video was very helpful! I often feel terrible listening/watching videos about periods because they give me gender-dysphoria as a transgender person. Could you in the future talk about periods and reproductive organs in a gender neutral way? Many people do that and it's always a kind act to transgender people. In this video you were able to talk about periods gender neutrally at some parts, which was nice :)

    • @CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject

Aw no, I'm sorry, I was really trying to make it gender neutral 😔 I just watched it back - was it when I said "female reproductive health"? I did google looking for a better way to say it but couldn't find an answer. Can I ask what you would prefer for future videos? The last thing I want is you make you or anyone else feel terrible

    • @kungfulearn

@@CarrieGill_TheWildGutProject Thanks for the reply and thank you for being understanding! Personally I prefer completely gender neutral terms. Hearing "female reproductive health" isn't too bad, especially now when I know you were keeping the subject gender neutral to begin with :) Someone else might find even that too much, like me while I was watching/listening the first time. On second watch it's all good (imo)! :)

Hell to the no!!! Erasing women and natural female cycles to be something “gender neutral” is disgusting. Even, I would go as far to say, as misogynistic. We are not chest feeders or animals, we will not be slighted down to something less than a woman. A woman is a type of person that deserves to be recognized, if this makes you uncomfortable to hear someone speak about a topic that is inherently belonging to the female sex at birth then click off the video. I recognize you and respect you for your stance in transgenderism. Just don’t erase me and make me lesser than because my beautiful natural cycles as a woman, that makes me a woman, offends you.
