sweatpants Plz
I love this album but animals is fucking magical.
markg143 still enjoying it!! Classic!
Yah, Animals is just a special album
Yeah i miss stu. It's great they brought him back for the animals anniversary tour that i FUCKING MISSED
Animals is great although the singing in it is kinda rough
@@supernoodles908 its emotional, unique, and raw. listen again!
do delta sleep
so stoked for their new album
I had no idea you did this review. More math-rock!
The drumming alone brings it to a 9 for me. Chris is the fuckin man.
I would give it a 9 or 10. Very solid songs, great melodies, and very accessible to people unfamiliar with math rock, or veterans to the genre.
I hope he reviews Disappointment Island.
yes please!!
What a disappointment!
😔
He mentioned it in y u no review, "Disappointment Island? Indeed." It's a shame he didn't give it a chance.
Noah Schenck That album is unlistenable because of the god-awful vocals.
review elephant gym!
>chords descending but also ascending
It's called Counterpoint, bruh
Counter point is theme A over theme B. You are describing contrary motion. Completely different.
+clockWorks10 Assuming he's talking about the breakdown of Cat Fantastic, it's definitely melodic counterpoint. The two ideas (theme A and B, as you call them) played by the 2nd guitar and the 1st guitar/vocals move both independently of one another, theme A downwards and theme B mostly upwards. If they shared the same rhythm it would be contrary motion, but they show harmonic independence and have a completely different contour. Plus, their accented notes are completely different, adding to the separate feel of the groove.
just the track? i did their latest album a while ago. :-S
i don't think it was in my collection videos. i bought it after i started making them. :-)
When you really focus on the roots of what they're playing and break down signatures to count for yourself, they do an amazing job keeping the songs diverse. Also, the interludes are brilliant additions to the album, they really get you thinking on the particular groove, and I'll admit I was unsure when I first heard them, but a few more listens and I was hooked. This album is musical gold, in 9+ years of drumming I've never had a band inspire me more. I love Animals, but this is too good!!!
Love your voice and videos Anthony, so well structured.
love ur reviews
i think i'm planning on it.
this albums a 10/10. dont be a damn scrote. also keep pressing 1 for good times
gotta look into this one.
I know it's older, but I'd like to see/hear/read a review of TTNG's previous full-length as well.
thanks, man! very nice of you to say.
yeah, just picked it up.
Another great album by TTNG tbh. Nothing will beat their first compilation though - that was just an unreal selection of songs.
thinking about this one
correction. Aztec Calender not Mayan just saying....
it's been so far yearzzz
Personally, I think the LP deserves a strong 8/low 9, but that's just because I'm in love with it lol
consider reviewing: "Provider"-Bry Webb, "Young Legs"-Anthony Green, "Intersections"-Into It. Over it. and "Get Disowned"-Hop Along
2020 love this album and watching this review wish Fantao would do more reviews like these.
THINKING ABOUT IT.
@theneedledrop you didn't find triptych to be absolutely dumbfounding?
Did you see the guitar/vocal cover of Triptych?
i may.
they do have a tendency to pick some great bands.
I'm really enjoying this album. Really loving the instrumentation on this! What are some other "math rock" bands that you would recommend, Anthony?
lots of diff places. they don't all come from one area.
YOU'ER RIGHT!
i just wanted to say love the show, u do a great job keeping it fresh and updating VERY regularly. could u possibly pull a progressive and tell us about ur competitors if u have any??? i cant find any good music review vlogs (other then u ofcourse) on the internet and i would just like to have an alternative source
thinking about it. :-)
really?
Very good and fair review. TTNG are one of my favourite bands and I do love this album. I agree with the fact that a lot of the album doesn't progress but I think their music really comes to life when you see them play live. They just boss out the tracks so effortlessly and in a very captivating way.
The fact that you mention Minus The Bear and Maps & Atlases along with TTNG makes me like this guy already. Not to mention his very well knowledge of music theory. Yeah I will subscribe now.
Which Tzadik release is that in the background?
They are officially shortened to TTNG? Didn't know that.
I am a long time TTNG fan. It took me awhile to actually get into this album. It was hard for me considering my absolute love of 'Animals'. by truly looking into this album i can see the difference from Animals.
It took me some time to understand and see that with the coming of Henry as the new vocalist TTNG was no longer the same band but instead an entirely different band. once i saw this change i began to love this album.
I liked the songs you recommended, gonna check it out.
i have, they dece.
Will you be reviewing The Dillinger Escape Plan's new album later this year?
Really good review, my man, totally agreed with the likeness to Maps and Atlases. Stu is a great guy and I'm gonna miss him but I am fond of the developments now being made with Henry on board. Subscribed, hopefully you can introduce me to some different music!
Is that a "Battles" vinyl on the shelf?
Yes
@@hectorgarcia65hg 7 years later he found the answer
Battles in the background
Natalia Páli Atlas is such a good album too!
@@JartnyAtlas isn't an album
just saw these guys live. I highly recommend checking them out. amazing musicians
love that mirrored is sitting on the shelf in the background. real math rock? perhaps ;)
do it up.
Fair review Fantano. I enjoy this singers style, and the production is absolutely gorgeous on this record.
thanks for the review, i'm digging this band
yeah, they sent out a press thing about it because they wanted to side-step any issues with the whole newtown tragedy.
Battles - Mirrored on Vinyl!? Was this a recent purchase? Don't remember it being in your collection videos.
If you plan on covering more math rock, the best groups I've found are Chon, and Clever Girl (specifically the album no drum and bass in the jazz room) I know you have an abundance of recommendations but still.
Neither bands have lyrics
Great quality reviews, thanks for doing them.
Yea he should review grow,
+Vincent Quiles grow stunk
Chris Kilbourn how so?
Chris Kilbourn not at all, i understand if you like the demos and newborn sun more, newborn sun is my favorite from them, but they pushed so many boundaries on grow and they flexed their abilities so hard.
Chon isn't math rock lmao
Anthony where do you get your colorful shirts from?
I saw these guys in concert. They're such great guys, and so talented. Definitely one of my top 10.
You going to do a memorial video for Joey Badass?
I totally missed Woods' latest record last year, discovered it just now! Thoughts?
I really loved this album and have fallen in love with their discography since hearing it. Very dense song arrangements with great subtleties and complexities to the writing. Some brilliant playing from all of the members with implementation of complex time signatures etc. Their acoustic performances are stunning and show how well their dense and complex songs translate into calmer acoustic arrangements.
I agree that there is a bit too much much filler on this LP. I'd give it an 8/10.
good track.
Wow didnt notice they released a new album
Just reading the "new singer" part of the description makes me want to give this album a 10.
Neu! 75, Mirrors... what's the other album up top?
Wow the first song on their bandcamp page, 'Cat Fantastic', feels like Toe combined with vocals.
Bretty gud i can say
glad you dug it. :-)
love this band/album, only complaint: where is the Pennines mention c'mon
Are you going to review And So I Watch You From Afars new album when it comes out?
Your next review review should be Esben & The Witch's latest album, ''Wash The Sins Not Only The Face''. Just came out on January 21st!
IT'S A MYSTERY
What's that thing next to Neu! ? Looks like a Tzadik release
so you did! thanks btw for turning us on to such a great and eclectic mix of music. 'tis much appreciated.
nice NEU! album in the back
that's it!
Was gonna say! Surely awesomeness repels water would be worth a mention as a post interlude track that's different?? Was about to comment then you said. Their guitar layers are tight as fuck aren't they! Love these guys. Think you misunderstand the cover art though.. xx
yeah, that was weird.....
The instrumentals on this album are top-notch and fucking glorious. I can't help but imagine how much more emotionally engaging these songs would be with Stu's vocals though...bummed he's no longer with them.
i was sleeping on TTNG for a while, recently discovered them and im in love! ive never heard of crazy technical music without any kind of aggression before, its just great!
Hell yeah man I used to be into lots of technical death metal, progressive metal, etc. but it's almost all math rock for me nowadays haha
YES!
considering most of these. :-)
WHERE DID YOU GET MIRRORED I"VE BEEN TRYING TO GET IT FOR YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHH I LOVE YOU ANTHONY!!!!
Also, check out Look Mexico. Early Look Mexico is very MTB but they are still awesome and then grew into their own on later albums.
word word word, did they have alot of battles? and do they mail records???
You should totally review Comadre's new S/T
Man these guys are really good~ I'm very thankful for you turning me on to such a diverse selection of music. I almost like the first singer better though... also why no love for MTB? they are so good llve!~
oui, oui.
Its actually their 3rd/Junior album
yeahhhh
0:41 Cal's finest hour.
Battles!
I honestly want to know what Fantano thinks about any of Tool's albums...in anticipation for the new one. I really doubt it'll happen though :P
Love this album, would agree it's not as strong as Animals but Disappointment Island, released bringing of this month is a stronger album with less of the interludes!
is that thumbnail even in the video?
Anthony will u give Bronx IV a look??
Best thumbnail ever.
10 for sureeeee

What is with the random bits of editing repeats and color changes.
+John Shepard to help with human attention span I feel. It's actually refreshing.
Ok?
Meet Me In St. Louis's album, Variations on Swing
I fucking beg of you, favorite album.
