Really appreciate you taking the time to show these tips and tricks. I have small high points as well and didn’t know if I should use a plane or sander. Plane looks safer with a little extra effort, but well worth. The paint tip is very helpful as I would have painted right side up and probably not gotten a great coverage on the handles. Made my day! Thanks!
Just a little added measure...Wood is like a straw. the end joints soak up moisture and hold until evaporated. To stop this from happening take an extra measure your boxes will last a VERY long time. Prior to painting...to protect the end joints take Bondo ( is a name brand you could use another filler ) mix according to the directions and put a small amount on all sides. then sand off and paint. Saves the end joints!
+Paul Windler Hi Paul. Oil based paint would definitely last longer, But, I found a very good primer that Sherwin Williams sells that is latex based. I have been getting at least 7 years out of that. But an oil based paint would last much longer. Oil based paints do require a longer cure time. I have never experienced it, but some older beekeepers have reported that if you don't let it cure long enough, the off-gassing of the paint has caused some hives to abscond. Of course, before latex paints all beekeepers used milk or oil-based paints and I don't think it was that big of a deal. I usually do the painting in the winter so it wouldn't be a problem anyway. Thanks for the comment!
It would be very informative if you could show everyone about waxing a hive body. Is there any way you could possibly do that? Or maybe find information on that? I'm extremely interested in that versus painting them.
I have never used wax to weatherproof hive bodies personally, but think it is a good idea. Here is the best video I have seen on the subject. It seems expensive to start off with, which is why I haven't done it yet. ruclips.net/video/oWHiHv3C4Vk/видео.html
Not to weatherproof it, just to do it. I appreciate you showing the link. I was just curious on it. I've seen some various paint colors. Even some hives that were stylized with designs on them. But hadn't seen them done in this style. Thank you for showing the link to this style. And I appreciate your channel. I'm learning from your style as well! ☻
Oh no, I didn't expect so, I was just telling you that I had seen some with them. I think people originally painted their hives white. Then they had stylized designs, like a few sunflowers or some bees. They were cute. Just thought I'd mention them in conversation. ~Tina
Heat up some boiled linseed oil and add bees wax. It makes your hives look great and they repel water due to the bees wax. Brush it on while it's still warm and then wipe it after it sets up. It doesn't take much wax. 5 parts linseed oil to one part bees wax worked for me.

You're right, the bees don't care. However, if you are leasing land from a landowner, say in an orchard, they do care if the hives look nice or not. Personally, I care also. Thanks for commenting.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that has edges that aren't flush. Thanks for posting the video.

very nice demo ' ' ' very helpful
Loved the concept. Why didn’t you fill the screw holes? IMHO it just needed that for a beautiful looking hive body.

I really like idea of the round over 👍. I am guessing, the paint used would be Oil Based for both the primer and top coats?

Thanks. I haven't ever done that so I'm probably not the best person to answer, but thanks for asking!

an idea that someone can found on Haidoutibeehives is to use less and wider fingers

I just use some sandpaper and let it go the bees don't care.
