  • One of the most miraculous events in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ is the feeding of the 5,000 people.
In the story Jesus invites his disciples to come away with him to a deserted place, but when they arrive they find thousands of people hoping to see and hear Jesus teach there.
Jesus sees them and calls them a "sheep without a shepherd." He then begins to teach and heal the sick who have come to see him.
Meanwhile, the apostles get worried. There are many people and no food for them. They ask Jesus to send them away to find food, but Jesus instead asks his disciples to feed them.
They can only find a boy with five loaves and two fish to feed the 5,000 men and their families.
Then the miracle occurs. Jesus blesses and breaks the bread. Then the disciples distribute the multiplied loaves of bread to the crowd. There is so much left over that they can fill twelve baskets.
The Meaning of the Feeding of the 5,000 Story
What lessons can we learn from the Feeding of the 5,000 story?
Here are a few ideas to consider as Christian disciples:
    1) Share a concern for the poor and hungry.
While the Apostles lacked faith in Jesus at first to care for so many people, we can admire them for their concern. They see a large group of hungry people and they wish to help them.
    2) Make use of what you have to serve others.
You only need a little to help a lot of people. Look at what you have. How can you serve others?
    3) Trust in Jesus to work miracles.
It can be overwhelming to see so much suffering in the world. There are so many people who need help. Place your trust in the Lord. Bring the people to him and let him fulfill all their needs.
The Meaning of the 12 Baskets
The number twelve refers both to the Twelve Tribes of Israel and the Twelve Apostles. Many will draw a connection between the Eucharist and the Feeding of the 5,000. The Apostles and the Church continue to distribute the bread to feed the multitudes in the Mass.

*this story must be imbibed metaphorically rather than literally...and i think almost all the miracles have metaphorical meanings. 🙏🙏*

It has both literal and metaphorical meaning, like the other miracles

Or… feed the hungry, give what little we seemingly have, trust the Lord to make it enough? I’ll go with your understanding… I’m a new Catholic.

Love your videos however i do have a few questions and sort of present an argument. Where in either Mark, Matthew or any other place does it say that the bread is multiplied? I've only read that the bread was broken and that the people ate and were satisfied. Kind of thinking of the elvish bread from Lord of the Rings type of scenario only in this case, its God's gift to that many people. Not only that, but if we are gathering contextually that the 12 baskets represent the 12 tribes and 12 disciples, by that same logic, these baskets should be big enough to feed over at least a thousand people each. Gathering further in Matthew 15:27, the Canaanite woman claims that the dogs eat the crumbs from the masters table, not full loaves. Even by the "crumbs", she was able to have her daughter healed and her faith satisfied that of the Lord. Could it be the faith of the people is what satisfies their stomachs? If you could shed some light on this please. Thank you.

This event prefigures the Eucharist just as the manna from Heaven did, and is celebrated every day in every Catholic church throughout the world! Read John ch 6, then read what took place in the upper room. Feeding the hungry and trusting in Jesus is no doubt the message throughout the New Testament, but the summary and meaning of this is Eucharist.

The bread represents spiritual substance. The 5000 means the five senses infinitely the apostals doubting is your 12 states of being.

Those 3 lessons may apply but you missed the point completely. It is a microcosm of the Church and the sacrament of the Eucharist. He gave the apostles the leadership authority of the church. He breaks the bread and distributes to his apostles who then distribute it to the people. They were told to sit down in groups of 50 and 100 representing locals churches/parishes. The apostles then go and bring the bread from Christ to the people. It’s a beautiful representation of the Holy Mass. When you understand apostolic succession it’s quite a beautiful story that Jesus told. And it’s the only miracle recorded in all 4 gospels - it’s that important.

You probably won't read this comment because it's been so long since you created the video but all the things you're mentioning are true except for one thing.
Let us not forget that when mothers bring their children out to follow somebody in the wilderness they always bring provisions for the kids and for themselves. As well as for their husbands. Even some of the stragglers who aren’t married would bring something along with them in any adventure to follow someone they admire, and especially following someone they would long to receive a healing from.
They don't know how long that they're going to be up there. Therefore, they usually bring some food, bread and water. It was mentioned in the Scriptures that there were men, women and children.
It's important to note that Jesus also divided all the people up into smaller groups so that they could all look at Jesus in the middle and at one another within several the circles. Jesus would have simply took the few things that he had and said to the people to do what he did.
Within each group he blessed the food that he had and shared it. That is when all the food would have redistributed from the rations that the mothers brought with them, for the children and for themselves.
It was an abundant sharing project. 12 baskets full, by the way, would not have not been very much left over from as many as 5000 people, however, it's important to note that he would have also have also directed the people redistribute the leftovers for those that didn’t get enough.
This way also, the people would not continuing to follow him in dangerous areas with the children. They would all be sent home, so that the children could be put to bed, well out of danger, as well as so that he could immediately get some private time to pray.
It’s not a matter of some type of magic show. Jesus didn’t create unfathomable and unrealistic feats of phenomenon outside of having his father heal the sick and raise the dead…. These types of miracles are how God works and that miracles happen within the heart, to keep people alive and to help others, through believing and being faithful.
The errors of what is being taught over the past several hundred years about Jesus multiplying the fish and bread through some type of phenomena is ridiculous.
Jesus taught people to understand and he did it through his compassion. He did not do any death-defying stunts nor to captivate an audience with mystifying illusions that nobody else could ever do.
Those are things he strictly avoided because he said that it is written not to tempt the Lord thy God.
Let us not forget that he also told the people that whosoever follows him will do even greater things than what he did, because he would be going to his Father.
That is a key element we need never forget. We will do and have done even more than what Jesus set out to do and that is obvious through all the innovation of technology in spreading the Word of God.
Jesus only lived 33 years on this planet. There are those who have lived three times that many years and have led a lot more people to be saved through the knowledge of what Jesus did.
Let us not forget that Jesus was not a magician. He is the Son of God. The firstborn of many brethren. And he is our Lord and Savior, not because of any mystifying things that people say he did, but because he offered himself a living sacrifice and then rose again because he never committed any sin ever in his entire life on earth, and he’s the only one who rose again and is still alive, to this day.
Therefore, he must have a pretty long beard and very long hair, by now.
