Thank you for your excellent insights. I would add, in my opinion, the "kid" has enormous significance - Recall Jesus' Words in Mtt 18:3 “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." - in the presence of Christ we are only ever like little children giving back to Him the little we have (5 loaves) and He is the One that must multiply -- a sign of God's Grace
In the City of the Poor in Lourdes there is a painting of this miracle and a quote under it which says. "what if the little boy did not give his five barley loaves and two fish. When we give the little we have to the Lord he gives the blessing. 🙏
The concept of "fill" in John 6 vv. 12 and 13 (and perhaps, the entire 5000 feeding episode) is also reminiscent of the Psalm (144, 15-16) which describes how God "opens up his hands and they (all living creatures) have their fill" of the good things of the earth, as they look up to him in humble expectation. Thank you Dr. Pitre, as always. I'm always blessed by what you do out here.
Sadly these days, many of us hear from our Priests that "the people took out their own lunches and that it was a miracle of sharing ", thus taking away from the divinity of Christ. The Gospel readings are clear and it says that 'Jesus knew what he was going to do '. Thank you Dr P for speaking the truth and explaining this in such detail.
I have heard a priest saying the same thing. I was disappointed with his understanding of the multiplication of the bread. I don't know how he could be a priest. Once a priest removes the power of Jesus to perform miracles, he should consider going on long leave
Thank you Dr Pitre, why some priest insist that what happened in this event was a miracle of sharing not the actual multiplication of bread from 5 loaves to 5000.
I like the way that John 6, which includes the Feeding of the 5000, is read over 5 Sundays in the late summer [weeks 17 to 21] of Year B. The next time will be between July 28 and August 25 2024.
I appreciate your description on this story - but My Question, why any group would carry around 12 empty baskets ? Did His disciples have the baskets or the crowd have the baskets ?
I love watching your videos here in UK.I have a question regarding a previous video on the Ascension.I did not understand the Ascension till I watched your video. But my question is this.God is unchanging and immutable. Before the Ascension the Second Person of the Trinity is the Word and Spirit. After the Ascension the Second Person has a body. This is a change. How can this be?Sorry for the question off topic but we have a Bible study on the Ascension next Saturday at the Oratory in Birmingham UK.I hope you can help.
Interesting how it says that there was 5000 men, as woman and children were not important back then. So the real number was probably more than three times the amount recorded.
Listen! Why did the miracle happen? To teach the rest 4999 not to hide their food as you can multiply them if you give with your heart(boy). That’s it. Don’t create unnecessary drama.😂
Beautifully explained 🙏

Dr. Pitre, you are one of my favorite professors that teaches at the Augustine Institute. I have learned much from your classes!
Wonderful insights! Thanks for sharing.

Thank God I’ve never heard a Priest preach that!

Imagine if The Chosen had taken its cue for this event from John 6. Would have been much more dramatic, interesting, and controversial.
🌠✡Very Good ! thank you very much 4 you're insights..I learned afew things..that I didnt realize before...the Moses stuff & the psalm 23 stuff
🙏❤️

Recently a Franciscan in my parish told us that this is a Parable and didn't really take place!! I'm confused! Any help? Thanks
We have some uneducated clergy. Wolves among sheep. Be aware.
Pray for that Franciscan. St. Francis would be appalled.

He had a Body from the first moment of His Conception in Mary's womb. It's a mystery.
I’m curious if there is significance in the loaves being barley. Our Eucharist has to have some wheat in it to be valid. 🤷♀️
sardi, I read " somewhere " that barley was a grain mostly used by the poor. Don't know if that helps or not. RE:Eucharist - unleavened
And someone mentioned „5000 exactly, no more no less“ wich I think is quite funny 😅

How can one eat a fresh fish? Just bite it? It was not fillet or sushi.
Your lectures should be taught in RC schools. Children will be better informed in their faith
5000 MEN not people. There were at least 20000 people.
