2024 Sierra Nevada World Music Festival was canceled 4 days before the gates were set to open. There were rumors of refunds but by the following Monday, they declared they were broke and unable to provide refunds. The worst part for most is that they closed all campsites for the weekend so everybody who was on the way to the grounds had to turn around and go home.

The only way to actually do it responsibly, independently, is by starting out having a party with bands on a private farm for a weekend. Built it from the ground up. Invest everything you make back into making the next year bigger and better. You can at least cover your own costs without much risk, and in about 5-10 years you could have a real festival, with a real company, a real team who know what they're doing, a real audience who want to come back every time, and a reputation with bands that want to see it work.
This is why after a lot of disaster festivals in the late 60's/70's promoters were required to put up a massive bond before receiving permission for a show. It was already required in some places, but was often overlooked. A lot of "Yeah, yeah. We got that, don't worry." Only to find unpaid vendors, bands, and staff bailing at the last minute. There is also event insurance. This is a policy taken out before the first ticket is sold. For example, if you have a show that has 50,000 capacity with a break even mark of 30K tickets sold, but you only sell 15K they will cover the difference and make sure everyone gets paid. It sounds like the promoters did none of this.

This was such a well written, witty video. If only it weren't about normal people, leading normal lives where money is tight, being ripped off and disappointed. Still this was so well done. And with a light charming touch.
I have spent many a night at the Webster. When somebody told me they were putting on a 3 day heavy music festival there I looked at them like they had 3 heads. I have seen plenty of great bands there, but that photo early on is it! There is nothing behind that photographer and the video clip from the band is the Webster Underground next door which is basically just a bar with a stage where local bands play. Also, and I can’t stress this enough, THERE IS NOTHING ELSE AROUND THERE. It’s in a residential area in Hartford, the nearest fast food is at least a quarter mile away, nearest hotel is in another part of the city altogether. Also was mugged at gunpoint once on my way from my car to an Anthrax show. Not the place for a festival 😂😂😂
I’ve been attending concerts for over 50 years. In that time I’ve seen over 200 bands live. NONE of the bands on their line-up would have drawn me, even if they were playing across the street from my house.
I was upset because I thought it was a catapult festival! I thought we were going to be able to catapult nerdy metal bands across open fields in the name of true Metal! But what do you expect from Connecticut outside of Pizza and high taxes we suck!
That lineup was kinda weak for a 3-day festival. I'm guessing they couldn't sell anywhere close to 13,000 tickets without any big names. The weird thing about Blue Ridge was that it sold out and they didn't feed the staff or rent a few fork lifts. I'm still holding my breath for a refund.
WALKER, Minn. (Valley News Live) - The organizers of Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota, have released the new live music lineup, after they previously announced the cancelation of all national acts at this year’s music festival. It’s not just this festival
Can't wait for the class action on this one. The terms of the ticket purchase, even if they were non-refundable, can be invalidated if what's stated on the ticket is not delivered - or if undue changes/inconveniences occur (for example a venue move of an hour, last minute updates, Saturday being cut short on site & Sunday not being delivered at all)
I really appreciate the Shakespeare references… not enough of them in the other Capulet fest videos going around. I feel like it went over some folks heads. You nailed it tho
I know some people STILL trying to "make it" in Metal after over 10 years of trying. They play some local "metal fests" here and there and walk away with like $42 to split 6 ways. They flew cross country to play the Whiskey in LA......AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. It was a pay to play show. They had to but their own tickets for $1500 to resell them. It was a total bust. Cost them thousands of dollars to play in front of less than 200 people with 4 other bands. They chalked it up to gaining experience. My take was, they chalked it up to paying thousands of dollars in travel and food and time to feel like rock stars for a few days. They could have stayed home and got the same feelings and made $42.
Another example of a young would-be promoter who over promised and under delivered, and who doesn’t understand the basics of contracts, deposits, logistics, insurance, etc. and thought he could “figure his way out” and “just roll” with whatever would come up. I’ve been involved as a tech with smaller regional bands in the Northeast and see this shit all the time.

I’d be shocked if he could afford one 😬
I thought at first that it was Catapult Fest - I'd go to that
I have spent many a night at the Webster.
"Boilerplate"
reminds me of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia 😂😂
I'm dying from the Shakespeare refs
Also calling the DA 'Batman' 💀
LOVE THAT ATTORNEY GENERAL!
"..as tens of confused fans were booted out..." I died. lol
My dyslexic ass thought that said “catapult fest” and I thought there was some sort of tragedy at a catapult event of some sort…😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
what a story! well the silver lining is that i discovered a great channel that needs my subscription!
damn. Webster theater is a hell of a place to see a show too.
These "organizers" are basically begging the government "please! We want more regulations!!".
I love your Shakespeare jokes!
Maybe I'm just getting old but im thinking im done with festivals. Seen most of the bands I want to, and seems like there are a lot of issues now
was waiting for this video
Same
4:23 I was about to say, sounds like the promoter didn't pay the venue. Never paid the race track so they bailed. Venue took a risk
“The check bounced? That’s impossible! I post-dated it.”
I’ve been attending concerts for over 50 years. In that time I’ve seen over 200 bands live. NONE of the bands on their line-up would have drawn me, even if they were playing across the street from my house.
As a Canadian, I welcome the arrival of our new life sized Godzilla overlord.
I was upset because I thought it was a catapult festival! I thought we were going to be able to catapult nerdy metal bands across open fields in the name of true Metal! But what do you expect from Connecticut outside of Pizza and high taxes we suck!
Your comedic timing is fantastic, thanks for another great video and calling out some bullshit!!!
Ja rule in charge of this one too?😂
You can't call it a festival when it's in a theater lol
“As tens of confused fans..” 😂
I like this AG! This seems like a “fake it til you make it” attempt at success despite no working capital
I've not watched your content before and you cutting away to bring up the prospect of a godzilla to invade Canada sent me
"Mayhem canceled" (Look up Frostbite Metalfest, it's a f**king meme in Finland)
That lineup was kinda weak for a 3-day festival. I'm guessing they couldn't sell anywhere close to 13,000 tickets without any big names. The weird thing about Blue Ridge was that it sold out and they didn't feed the staff or rent a few fork lifts. I'm still holding my breath for a refund.
They had some big names! Not like Metallica or something but some decent headliners
babe wake up the savior of metal uploaded
Babe, wake up. Somebody posted that overused thing again.
WALKER, Minn. (Valley News Live) - The organizers of Moondance Jam in Walker, Minnesota, have released the new live music lineup, after they previously announced the cancelation of all national acts at this year’s music festival.
It’s not just this festival
Can't wait for the class action on this one.
The terms of the ticket purchase, even if they were non-refundable, can be invalidated if what's stated on the ticket is not delivered - or if undue changes/inconveniences occur (for example a venue move of an hour, last minute updates, Saturday being cut short on site & Sunday not being delivered at all)
Dont know a single band there, guess im safe from shaddy festivals.
When's Montague Fest?
Aug 30th, RPM Fest in Montague MA!
I really appreciate the Shakespeare references… not enough of them in the other Capulet fest videos going around. I feel like it went over some folks heads. You nailed it tho
Great script! Clicked on this with a why-the-Hell-not attitude and stayed and enjoyed.
This era's hottest occupation : announcing a big/new anything, getting paid and then hiding under some coats 😐
That beginning poem was beautiful.
