  • Liminal City is an experimental short film shot on 16mm film (Kodak 500T) using the Krasnogorsk-3 with an original ambient synth score. The film was processed at Kodak Atlanta and scanned at 2k. We colored in Divinci Resolve and used Topaz Video AI to up-rez the footage to 4k.

    Tony Gilroy in an interview admitted He put Kathleen Kennedy on notice via the secondary phone call. Tony said “He had an idea for a prequel “Rogue One” story, however He needed total creative freedom via writer, show runner, or He’s out …!” Kennedy agreed! Hence Andor is light years better than anything available on Disney +. Period! It’s a master class in filmmaking, writing, cinematography, tonality, tension, world building etc etc.

    Nothing captures colour and emotion like film.

    The registration failure at the end looks so amazing. One of those things that you just couldn't replicate digitally. Or it would at least need a pro and a lot of work

      Thanks. I was disappointed when I first saw that the footage had slipped in the camera. However, after looking at it I thought it looked pretty cool and ended up using it. A happy accident. I love 16mm film.

      I agree, I love mechanical cameras. They are a blast to use. I used to be intimidated by shooting film but it's super fun and not as tough to pull off as I once thought. The results can be stunning.

    Beautiful! At first i thought: this looks way too clean for a K-3. I love 16mm and the K-3, but at slo mo it will cause heavy jitter, it usually has some flicker and the 500T is rather grainy. The colors and gorgeous glow caused by the halation are there. Checked the description: Topaz. Great work! I only watched the footage on my cell phone, will rewatch on my PC. Have a great 2024!

      Thanks. I was surprised how well the K-3 handled this shoot. It turned out much better than I had hoped. I shot a bunch of film on the K-3 in Europe this summer and hope to post it soon.

      @@TheFilmMultiverse I look forward to your footage! Looks like you lost a loop somewhere during the shoot. This can happen sometimes, even to the best. I recommend: if you hear anything strange when filming: stop immediately, open the camera in total darkness and try to figure out where the film is. Try to thread it again and continue shooting. Of course this needs practice. Best of luck!

      @@truefilm6991 Yes, I didn't load the camera properly in hindsight. It was my first time shooting on the camera and I wasn't really sure what I was doing. I've learned a lot since then. As a side note, your video on how to load the K-3 was one of the videos I watched. Great job and thanks. I decided to incorporate the "ruined" footage into the concept of the short film. I think it's a pretty cool effect as a novelty. Thanks for your comments!

      @@TheFilmMultiverse It's the perfect example of a happy accident. It looks really awesome and just plain organic. Kind of like when a guitarist plays with feedback from their amp; there's chaos going on which you can't really replicate easily digitally.

      Thank you! No secret. I'm pretty new to 16mm. I simply shot Kodak 500T on my K-3 exposing wide open. Lots of street lights helped. I then did a simple color grade in Divinci and up rez'd to 4k with Topaz Video. No FX or tricks. I was super happy with it.

    • @TheFilmMultiverse
      @TheFilmMultiverse  5 месяцев назад +3

      That was an accident actually. I loaded the film incorrectly and it wasn't registered in the gate properly. I was bummed out when I saw it but decided to use it since it looked cool. Not sure I could ever replicate this the same way if I tried. It did teach me to check my film loading before shooting.

    Noticed some sort of a filtration over the lens? Pro Mist?

    • @TheFilmMultiverse
      @TheFilmMultiverse  4 месяца назад +2

      I didn't use any filtration on the lens or any post FX. I shot on the K-3 with the Meteor lens it came with. Maybe what you're seeing is the beauty of 16mm? Thanks for watching!

      No. We didn't push it at all. I brought it up a little in Resolve but that's it. I was very happy with how it turned out. The 500T stock is pretty amazing. I shot run and gun style with no additional light.

    • @TheFilmMultiverse
      @TheFilmMultiverse  5 месяцев назад +2

      It was a total accident. The film wasn't registered in the sprockets properly in the camera and came loose while shooting. This was my mistake loading it. However, it created a cool effect so I used it. This is a true "in camera VFX".
