- In this video, I wanted to show how to convert your K3 16mm into a S16. Hopefully, this helps, ill link a couple other videos below that are more about assembling the K3. Also feel free to check out the K3 insta page

That thing up in the corner is a splicer/trimmer. Incase you get some junked up film and you need a clean edge, slide your film in there and chop off the ratty end. Works in a pinch if you don't carry scissors (who shooting film doesn't carry scissors?)

Do you have any idea where to find the gate? I can't seem to find them anywhere.
You might want to check ebay. They usually pop up there very frequently. As I am typing this, I checked on ebay by typing: krasnogorsk-3 gate - and one Super 16 gate came up at USD 64,84 (buy it now option, so no bidding necessary). Another source for film camera parts ias the Facebook group: 8mm and 16mm filmmakers group: For Filmmakers who Shoot on Film. You might consider joining. Great people over there.
@@truefilm6991 at the time of this comment there were none left on eBay, but I eventually came in contact with a guy who sold them and he notified me when they were in stock so luckily I got one. I got it for about $60 which I think is definitely overpriced but it was the only one available
@@BillyCobbOfficial It's not cheap yeah, but it's a special item. Please make sure you polish the extended side (opposite of the vertical slot for the pulldown claw). The widened gates usually come only milled out, but not polished and thus cause deep vertical scratches. If you don't know how to polish: just use very fine sandpaper (1000 and 2000 grid) and a drop of fine grade machine oil on the milled out area only it needs to be as smooth as glass. Also make sure you have the recentering ring to avoid ugly vignetting on the right side of your image. Just making sure you enjoy your film projects. :) Any further question (not an expert, but I know a few very knowledgeable people and I am a happy Super 16 K-3 user myself): please just reply. @@elialang5953 the K-3, the models with the M42 mount, has a lens mount ring at the front. It has four screws, easy to remove. You just swap it with the recentering ring. Now the optical axis is correctly centered for Super 16. They are cheap and not always perfectly machined. You need to check the thickness with a calliper and either file or shim with sheet plastic to get the back focus (flange focal distance) perfect. Mine was fine. Just the thread is a little rougher, so I always give it a film of fine machine oil. Hope this helps.

You do need a re-centering ring for the K3. You can find them on eBay I'm pretty sure. As far as the viewfinder DSLRguide made a video about shooting with a S16 K3, in that he talks about how to shoot without a converted viewfinder. It's actually really easy when you get the hang of it, hope this helps.

Hi! Where I can buy Super 16 gate?
They pop up on ebay every now and then.
I just bought the gate and plan to replace it when it arrives.
Do I need to do anything else to turn my K3 into Super 16? Or is this it?
Besides the set of precision driver kit, your all set!
You should also get the lens re-centering ring. It keeps your lens in the center of the newly widened gate.

I can't for the life of me get the plate back flush. I've tried so many times. Don't fully understand the "pull down claw" comment.... I've tried every which way it feels

Otter Moore wow sorry I missed this !! Thank you so much. I managed to reassemble by not including the plastic washer. Really stupid but I couldn't achieve it any other way... hope it's not super essential.

The title for this video is inaccurate. You are not converting your K3 into S16, you're merely changing the gate. Additionally, you forgot to mention that the lens mount needs to be re-centered, otherwise the center of your lens won't align with the center of the gate which will cause vignetting on one side of the frame.
Is it hard to recenter the lens by yourself?
