    Uhura obviously was able to pick things up quickly and her mind wasn't totally erased. She knew Swahili. She just had to be REMINDED of everything she had already learned.

    Scotty's lack of temper is hilarious. In the episode before this the one with the Greek God Apollo, Scotty gets angry at Apollo and several times he electrocutes Scotty. He never does learn does he lol!

      Good point! But, I don't know about him _never_ learning.
      Remember, later when it came into engineering later, and began tampering with the engine's fuel output valve.
      Scotty yelled at it, and warned it off, BUT this time, he never tried to physically attack it! he just stood there, beside it!

  • @cliffordshafran9250

    Well, this was sort of a landmark TOS episode. There was more humor than previous episodes. The villain is an inanimate object similar to HAL-9000. And it served as inspiration for a number of future videos such as "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", the "Short Circuit" movies, and the "Ultrajerk 2000" episode of "Dexter's Laboratory".

    A big deal was made about Spock dying in "The Wrath of Khan," being resurrected in "The Search for Spock" and finally being quizzed about the experience by McCoy in "The Voyage Home." "You really have gone where 'no man's gone before'," McCoy says. Except Mr. Scott had, years before.
    It's too bad the movie producers (and so many of the new shows) didn't maintain good continuity with The Original Series. It would have been a real callback if there had been even just a brief line of dialogue between Spock and Scott, comparing the experience. It could have even just been something wonderfully cryptic, such as showing the end of a conversation between the two as they enter Engineering together, with Scott saying something like "Aye, I knew you'd be the only one who could comprehend what it was like" and Spock replying "Common experience is a basis of understanding."

    • @lynnpoint6395
      @lynnpoint6395 Год назад

      @@paulpolpiboon9535 No, Chekov's death was just an illusion that he didn't even remember, which is why he survived. McCoy was significantly injured in a couple episodes, but never actually died.

    Why don’t more people ship Sulu and Uhura? While Scotty heads straight for Nomad, Sulu’s the one who warns Uhura when Nomad is in front of her, tries to move her out of harm’s way, and catches her when she loses her memory. And from the look on his face it’s clear he really cares about her.

    • @jeffw1267
      @jeffw1267 3 года назад +1

      My theory is that Nomad wiped out her conscious memory but there are so many links and pathways in the brain that it would be relatively easy to restore them. In the future we will understand more about learning and teaching and how to do it efficiently. The pioneering neurosurgeon Dr. Wilder Penfield believed that the brain is a recording device and we remember everything that ever happened to us. There isn't a way to prove that but I think it's at least possible. I do question the fact that Uhura would come out of it with exactly the same personality that she had before.
