I'm here because of it. Thoroughly enjoying her work, and that comes from someone who's autistically challenged when it comes to music. Honestly never really even listen to much music, but I love her way of story telling. I find her songs develop in interesting ways. Plus her sensuality... Young me would have been absolutely entranced by her, I mean... I am now. But yeah I'm finding a lot of her music very fun and enjoyable to listen to.

HERE IT IS- I've been wondering what this video was for decades. When i was seven this video frightened me- the reason was that the Yorkshire Ripper was at his peak then, and in the papers I'd seen a police sketch of a man in black with a black mask. When this was released I saw this on TV, and assumed that the figure behind her was the Yorkshire Ripper, and that she didn't know he was there. Even worse, she was singing 'hammer horror' which I thought would inspire him to attack her with a Hammer. This was all too much, so I ran off yelling I'd just seen the Ripper, convinced a murder was imminent.

I had a friend in grad school who liked Kate Bush. This was the early 90s, and the only Bush on my radar was HW. Since then, she's become one of my favorite artists. It's incredible to see her in such an early video, before videos were even a thing.

    Lyrics:
    You stood in the bell-tower,
    But now you're gone.
So who knows all the sights
    Of Notre Dame?
They've got the stars for the gallant hearts.
I'm the replacement for your part.
But all I want to do is forget
    You, friend.
    Hammer Horror, Hammer Horror,
    Won't leave me alone.
The first time in my life,
    I keep the lights on
    To ease my soul.
    Hammer Horror, Hammer Horror,
    Won't leave me alone.
    I don't know,
Is this the right thing to do?
    Rehearsing in your things,
    I feel guilty
    And retracing all the scenes,
    Of your big hit,
Oh, God, you needed the leading role.
It wasn't me who made you go, though.
Now all I want to do is forget
    You, friend.
    Hammer Horror, Hammer Horror,
    Won't leave me alone
The first time in my life,
    I leave the lights on
    To ease my soul.
    Hammer Horror, Hammer Horror,
    Won't leave it alone
    I don't know,
Is this the right thing to do?
Who calls me from the other side
    Of the street?
And who taps me on the shoulder?
I turn around, but you're gone
    I've got a hunch that you're following
To get your own back on me
All I want to do is forget
    You, friend
    Hammer Horror, Hammer Horror
    Won't leave it alone
The first time in my life
I keep the lights on to ease my soul
    Hammer Horror, Hammer Horror
    Won't leave it alone

@@ablackbirdthatiswhite1124 No, it's basically a ghost story. It's about a famous stage actor who died during rehearsals for his big hit play - a production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Kate's character then gets called in as a replacement and has guilty feelings about her big break coming about by her friend's death. She can sense his presence as a jealous ghost stalking her and is tormented by it.

Most people confuse the two words sexual and sensual - Kate is very sensual in that she is sensitive to many things both within and without on many levels. Sensual is so much broader involving all the senses - being touched emotionally and physically by everything around us in varying degrees whilst sexual refers to pleasure pertaining to sex.

    • @LorraineAshby
      @LorraineAshby 9 лет назад +28

philsskills Yes she is Phil - prior to listening to this song I was watching a video where Kate was being interviewed in the early 90s and the interviewer brought up the 'sexuality' thing and that is when Kate talked about how she regarded herself as sensual as opposed to sexual in the way she portrays herself as an artist.

    • @flo15jo

Lorraine Ashby Yep. I've said elsewhere that the 'sexiest' video ever is the official video to 'Sensual World', and all she takes off is her hat.
I love watching her interview videos. Have you seen the one where they constantly interrupt her and paw her aroundfor mikes and hair points, ask her insensitive, incorrect questions and she takes it all with a quiet smile? This is a person who knows who they are, what they are, and what they want to do!

Or to at the least have a reasonable replica of her, a good-enough lookalike of the lovely Ms. Kate, to be passably perfect; to match those perfect looks of hers?! Yeah, maybe getting a ladylove like that, who'd be a doppelganger of her, approximating Kate's 'beauty & potency', as she herself worded it in a song...?! That'd be a blooming fantasy come true! Kate Bush was/is a huge goddess of a female! Obviously, it was the younger stretch of her life, that she shined most brightly, so if she could be duplicated somehow, it'd preferably be the way she looked in these circa 1980's video shows. I would speculate that she's still pretty lovely-looking for an old lady, now.
