Heck yeah and he’s a cool dude to talk to saw him at the la fitness I worked at multiple times and even had a session with him amazing dude to learn from
You're absolutely right fella, you see fighters look confused even quite high level dudes. I didn't box long and I wasn't very good but that was one thing I was comfortable doing, so at least I could often buy myself time just with steps or pivots to the right
He mentioned something about following the rear foot in the video Working The Radius. Mike Tyson was taught / teaches to get outside the shoulder which to me would be equal as ' attacking ' the rear foot. This is dope stuff !!!!
The explanations and analogies you use are CLEAR and really drive the point home. Some instructors may kno the same tech your explaining but they’re so “feel based” that they dont explain it well.
Brilliant teaching. I've been in martial arts for 30 years and Mr. Cook breaks it down to the essentials so beautifully. It is all about foundation first.
Praise God! Great to see this fresh upload. May God Bless Marvin and everyone reading this message with strength in life and skills in the ring. For I can do all things who Christ who strengthens me. Love and Respect from Fiji 🙏😇🕊️♥️🇫🇯♥️
I have a hard time explaining it, so this is as close as I can call it. Marvin Cook to Boxing is like what Eddie Bravo is to BJJ in MMA (a lot more well spoken). Marvin is designing a system to fill a lot of gaps that have gone untouched, likely because of boxing’s tradition of not questioning how certain things are to be done. It makes sense in my head, but maybe someone else can provide better verbiage to what I’m trying to express lol.
They are questioned tho, this guy says a lot of baloney. Willie pep used lateral movement and he wasn't just a "moving target" because moving laterally is as slow or uncoordinated as he makes it seem, not to mention the weird balance of this position.
I'm a Beginner boxer and I have to say that each and every video has GOLD nuggets everywhere. MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE TRAINING VIDEOS TO WATCH AND REWATCH. Keep em coming brother! Thank you for returning to share your knowledge with us all. Cheers! 👊
Makes really good sense. I like how he talks about the mistake of, “just do it faster.” It’s like Jocko Willink talks about in Jui Jitsu when he says, “do it harder” sarcastically. The lesson is to modify your tactics and try another route. Good stuff.
I don't do straight western boxing. I train Muay Thai. I still watch this videos and try to apply them to a traditional Muay Thai stance. It's crazy how the same rules can still work in our more "square" stance compared to the blades stance of western boxing. For anyone else who is trying to apply this to their discipline, it can work. Just mix the two ideals and let the footwork do the work.
I agree sir! I train and spar with more of a dutch kickboxing style and I am trying to utilize these fundamentals while keeping my kicks effective and able to return to this "rifle crosshairs" position. This is solid gold.
Just watched this after I had a spar, hella helpful cause I find myself moving the left or moving LATERALLY. Gonna practise this for my next spar!💪🏽Thank you!
Absolutely incredible information , boxers/Fighters are blessed to have this man back on here dropping knowledge .Thanks for the free and quality content
Marvin thank you for these vids. I started boxing last year; with covid around, I haven't been able to learn much. These videos are absolute gold. Keep them coming, please and thank you!
Yoooo! He’s back! I dig the channel and the approach. Marvin and team, where do you teach out of? I’d love to know if it’s possible to attend one of your sessions someday.
Hmmmm hide your rear foot. So many years of watching boxing and studying and training I NEVER heard of that one simple technique before! Thank you definitely adding this to my practices and I’m definitely subscribing 💯
I love this guy! Just found this channel and he’s just one of those coach’s that makes things click in my brain! Giving me those “ah ha” moments again. Love the work!!
Marvin I love you brother ! You are the man , don’t know how much you taught me. If I ever move back to the OC I will definitely be signing up for your classes .
Wish Marvin would produce a program for purchase or online. I’ve been watching these for a while learn something new every time. Not a boxer myself but into martial arts. The footwork is gold. More please.
The number one principle concept I learned from Marvin Cook was what Marvin said about Muhammad Ali. No matter how much footwork positional movement, foot shuffling, or hand motion Ali employed defensively and offensively ALI ALWAYS MAINTAINED HIS FUNDAMENTAL BOXING STANCE POSITIONING AT ALL TIMES!!!
Great to see you again 😀 I have learned a lot from your videos but when I face a much taller opponent I'll have problem to make the true boxing stance work for me, especially those who use philly-shell guard. I would love to see a video with tips for a shorter boxer in the future.
Hype for Tyson and Roy fight. Did my first boxing session today, i really like this insight. Keep it up. Next is muay thai and BJJ but boxing all you need to defend a street fight.
I've been training both sides equally since the very beginning, so I just switch stances and jabbing with my right is just if not more comfortable than my left.
Straightup im going to cancel my boxing class membership. I can watch Mr Cook teach boxing all day. Im getting to the point where im listening to these like a podcast, goodness me we are all blessed. Stay jabbing boys!!!
the second he laid out the technique i just had like the biggest smile on my face because of how genius this is. now i just gotta make sure my opponents don’t find this 😂
What's genius about moving to the right? Moving to the right of your opponent is the way boxing is usually taught because you don't want to move into your opponents strong hand. Given that both fighters are orthodox though. So your opponent probably already knows this. Don't know why everyone is so excited about this as the interesting part is not really addressed in the video: How to initiate offense out of this movement. Sure it says you can throw every punch it out this movement. But as also said in the clip it doesn't feel as natural as when moving left. I was hoping for tips on how to get better at offense while moving right this clip pretty much only said move right though..
@@timmetzler4782 He mentioned that if you can see your opponent’s back foot, then they are out of position. Most of this video was about positioning, and the genius part about moving right is keeping your back foot “hidden” from your opponent. You’re not hiding, but you’re keeping yourself setup for more offense in the bigger picture. Better defense would lead to better offense because you’d be in more positions to throw shots.
This whole channel is the holy grail of boxing technique

Moving to your right EFFECTIVELY is such a valuable trait and 99% of the boxing population can’t do it.
