    My coaches are former Pro Heavyweight and light weight boxers. My coach that is a heavyweight fought Povetkin and Tommy Morrison. They have always taught me to step into my jab and i will continue to do that. If someone is trying to rush in there is no need to step in u can just throw it. But this is the only time i have ever disagreed with Marvin. If u are throwing that jab to be offensive u better step into it especially if u dont have the reach advantage. If u using it more so as a defense to keep people away u aint gotta step into it.

    • @Switcheroo1
      @Switcheroo1 4 месяца назад

      Lol He also said that u shouldn’t move your head off the jab, and I’m like uhhh… eventually someone is just gonna parry that jab and hit u with a nasty lead hook if u don’t implement some type of head movement in your approach

    i always felt the same way there’s only ONE true jab, and once you perfect it, you can apply the fundamentals from different angles and level shifts. this is why i respect you compared to other coaches on youtube because you know what you’re talking about. not to discredit them, but you can tell you speak from experience cus I felt it in one of your other jab videos I think. I had a hunch on something, and you happened to mention it which made everything click. respect

    This is excellent. Thanks for posting, Marvin.
    Something that I found interesting beyond what you covered here came to me when you described staying behind the Rifle, and how opponents are looking to attack what is exposed. Understanding this could be very useful to counter punching. Once staying behind the rifle is second nature, then you could begin exposing yourself in a calculated manner from behind the rifle to draw out a particular attack from your opponent. Allowing you to then fire off a counter as fast as they've attacked.

    Brilliant. Excellent communication, you broke it down very well. I've been boxing and kickboxing for 30 years (coaching now for a long time) and I admit that I do and have taught some of the things that you pointed out as mistakes. When you explain it I can see it as a mistake. Funny how after all these years I didn't see it myself (or from anyone else online). Good job.

      A great coach is one that can admit mistakes, isn’t fixed in his ways and is still willing to learn even after many years.
      You fall into this category 👍🏻

    Best explanation of how to throw a jab I’ve ever heard. And Evidently I over rotate on all my punches.
