  • White Woman Surviving The Largest Women's Prison in the Philippines | Free Documentary Bites
The "Correctional Institution for Women" is the oldest and largest women's prison in the Philippines, founded in nineteen thirty-one. Designed for one thousand PDLs - "persons deprived of liberty" - today there are about three times as many. Prisoners range from petty criminals to drug dealers, from murderers to gang members. The guards are outnumbered. Your best bet at keeping prisoners under control: Strict rules that everyone must adhere to. Over and over again there are checks, to ensure no one has managed to escape. One hundred percent security is impossible! The inmates are allowed to deal with tools, gas-cannisters and knives. All potentially lethal weapons.
"The bedrooms and living quarters, the so-called "dorms", are spread over several buildings. Among the inmates are also so-called ‚High Value‘ PDL's‘. A huge compound, full of hardened criminals. In a jail where just a few dozen correction officers watch over several thousand prisoners, who roam freely during the day. For keeping control, the guards even work together with privileged inmates, that are allowed to punish the other ones.
This episode of Behind Bars tells not only his story, but also that of the inmates, and the environment of the prison and shows in impressive pictures how life behind bars works.

Well, Debbie is really learning a tough life lesson and this will really change her entirely. Prison is never a good place for anyone but if you break the law then this is just one of the many consequences you'll have to face. On the brighter side of her situation, she is deprived of many things she used to enjoy before and yet she lives and have 3 meals a day. Consequences.

Interesting how she has completely adopted the Filipino pronunciation of English. Age 32. Been incarcerated 9 years in the PI. That would put her at age 23 when she went to prison. Is this her same age when she first arrived in the PI? Typically a 23 year old will retain their 'accent' even when moving to a location where the community speaks the language differently. I wonder if she has purposely adopted the Pinoy accent?

Debbie (ful name Debbie Penz Reyneke), was 24 when she was arrested on oct 23, 2013. She had come through Dubai. Good thing she wasnt checked there, that would have been a death sentence). She carried around 40 million peso worth of cocaine (8.5 kg) From the news I could gather, I got the impression customs knew she was coming. Though maybe her itinerary gave it away Peru Argentina Dubai Manilla Oh wait. the news says:
“Reyneke’s arrest on Oct. 23 upon her arrival from Dubai on board an Emirates flight was the result of the bureau’s enhanced intelligence network.”
“Customs officials at Naia were already alerted about her arrival and the possibility of having illegal drugs in her luggage."
So it was a giveaway, someone ratted on her. All the times i have been in the philippines customs has only once checked my luggage.
What is most surprising though is that the few photo's of her arrest picture her as a black woman with black rasta hair. Nothing like the girl pictured here in this video
