its Maynard, cant say more if anyone can challenge freddie its him, and this version or the puscifer version he doesnt let down. Maynard can do anything he puts his mind to and i think has become the closest to freddie mercury more than anyone in achieving one of the greatest voice you will ever hear. No he is not freddie mercury, but he is maynard and he is the best at what he does.
One of the many talents of Maynard in A Perfect Circle is to do awesome covers of his idols. I remember a beautiful version of ''Ashes to Ashes'' by David Bowie too.
This is one of those songs that's almost untouchable, meaning NOBODY can do a good cover of it. Not only was the studio recording excellent, but this blew the recorded version totally out of the water. Maynard is EXCEPTIONAL here.... and I have seen many covers by certain people that only come close to 10% of this brilliance. Wow. Thank you for posting this.
@@JBuckeRooRoo @john buckell no pipe or anything. I can't stand drugs. I do have autism though. Actually I meant to post that comment compared to PUSCIFER's studio version, as like I said, it's quite amazing when someone is able to pull off a classic song. When I said it blows it away I was referring to PUSCIFER'S recorded version, not QUEEN.I love Queen. One of my favourite bands ever. And its exceptional because Maynard IS NO FREDDIE. they're so different. Know what I mean? It's like An*l C*nt and their cover of "Stayin Alive" by the Bee Gees (I knew those guys personally working for)... played it for them and they laughed.
@@JBuckeRooRoo hey dude I hope I explained things a bit better? Have a look then go to the first comment. I'd made a mistake about which version in particular, so yeah, I do totally agree with you, as you can see!! Freddie has always been one of my idols!!!
Gawd, that would be so complicated doing live, especially with a conductor, with the rallentando at the end of the solo, Billy, the drums, gradually slowing the tempo, and a conductor slowing the tempo at his own rate, they almost pulled it off, but overall a successful live attempt. Maynard's range and control is just un-f'n-believable, and he's in his 50s now. Somehow he is defying time and his voice is getting better with age, like a fine wine.
brutusmaximumus Bohemian Rhapsody is just not fit for Maynard, so of course Freddie would sound better singing it. However, there are things that Maynard does better than Freddie, relative to Maynard's style, such as his screaming in songs like Ticks and Leeches. It's hard to compare the two when Maynard is singing Freddie's song, but if you could hear Freddie singing Aenima, you'd be saying the opposite. On another note, I'd like to know why this was a thing. Why on Earth would A Perfect Circle cover this, and without any adjustments for their own style. I've never quite got it.
Not a fair statement IMO. All of Queen's 80's performances, that I have seen, Mercury couldn't or wouldn't hit certain notes. It could be that I am not watching the ones where Mercury nails the vocals. MJK should be past his prime as a vocalist at this point. My guess is he is pushing 50 when this was recorded whereas Mercury was in his prime when he recorded Rhapsody in the studio. I am a Mercury fan and he is great but I wouldn't rank him over Maynard. But both are phenomenal vocalists so I think it's just a matter of preference. But even now with his AARP card Maynard still sounds great and he does some cool stuff on Eat the Elephant. And this is a solid live performance that sounds better vocally than the live Queen stuff I have seen.
It's funny now knowing Billy didn't know how to play this song until the day of. I say he did pretty damn good for only having 18 hours of notice.

But Freddie never had the same level of grit that Maynard had
@kalle kanin nobody has ever had the range Freddy had. But not many can pull of Freddys hardest song. Maynard has, that's cool.
For being 50, MJK killed this. The goat. One drive. Stay alive!

Put the pipe down man, no way in hell. Maynard did a great job but its no Freddie period.

Of course no one will ever be compared to Mercury, but no matter what you say, this cover is f' great.

Amen
Great song, ended up on Pucifer
Well. It’s better than Kanye
This guy does it all, and does it so fucking good. Praise APC!!
Sweetness to the max
Raddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
man. maynard and billy in E3? are you kidding me? when and why i missed it?
Yes it's Pre-E3 '2010, absolutely. Guitar Hero promotion.
This is a very good cover of this song & I'm a very big fan of Queen
MAYNARD CHANNELED MERCURY. HOLY MOTHER JUDITH. WHAT AN ANGEL DID U CREATE. I AM SURE THE SKY TREMBLED THAT NIGHT.
I'm a huge Maynard fan, but he is no Mercury as talented as Maynard is, it really makes you realize how damn good Mercury was

Still better then Kanye tho
His vocals have been aging across the years unfortunately. MJK singing this back in the 90s would be to die for.
Yes!
Just perfekt! !!
@1:45 Does that guy wipe or flick the nose goblin he just harvested on the blonde next to him or am I seeing things?
I like it.
He forgot to sing the beginning part of the song not exactly putting that as perfect for a error
The choir sang the intro
Sounds better than Lambert.
People need to stop covering Queen songs.
The first 23 seconds are "You Never Give Me Your Money".
Just influenced by it.
Hahahahaha Maynard flipped off billy bahahahah
Haha I think that was his phone
He's taking a selfie with the choir.
A little out of Maynard’s range
Super Glued not too much
The song is not out of Maynard's range... Maynard is out of the song's range....
agreed.. maynard is amazing but not freddy amazing when it comes to the highs lol
LOL ok... *Rolls eyes into infinity*
cvxvxv I’m pretty sure Maynard would hate you
Freddie Mercury isn’t qualified to set up Ronnie James Dio mic stand. That is all 👍
I don't know why MJK ever messed with this song. Just not his style or range or anything really. Love the guy... but... meh.
I don't think it was his own idea to go to E3 lol
Totally agree. There are songs and groups that should not be covered. This song perhaps the biggest example.
