@@RenholderDLohner This right here is one of the reasons you are a legend. Taking the time to respond to a fan! Many years ago on either Facebook or MySpace I wrote you and thanked you for your involvement in APC and you wrote me back. I was blown away then and now I see that you are still in touch with your fans! I know this was a year ago, but still so awesome!
Woodstock '94 with NIN was my favorite Danny moment. Trent, Danny and Robin stalking around the stage covered in mud was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
I love the space in this. Billy absolutely captured the essence of the 80's style with a modern twist. I love this format Rick. People talking about their new projects.
Exactly my thought. Particularly his voice reminds me of songs of that time. Now when my wife asks "How do we find new music worth listening to?" I tell her that Rick's channel is a great source. Album downloaded, vinyl on the way in the Fall! Rick sells me lots of albums! 🤣
Billy is a straight up genius! If you’ve never heard his other solo project Ashes Divide….do yourself a favor and check it out! You will not be disappointed.
The Black Queen put out 2 albums. Steve Alexander does some excellent work regarding inventive guitar scapes and songwriting. Greg Puciato does the vocals and Joshua Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv) with Puscifer credits, Nine Inch Nails remixer and live performer brings it all into shape with some exquisite sound design. Exceptional output and highly recommended.
Very Depeche Mode. Big fan of Billy’s ever since I first heard A Perfect Circle. Was fortunate to see them in Brisbane on the Mer De Noms tour, as a lifelong Tool fan it was awesome to see Maynard in a different incarnation and Billy’s playing was really heavy and tastefully done. As a drummer Josh Freese was a beast and just a blast, a joy to watch. Thanks for the interview Rick.
There's a lot of musical talent sitting in that room. Billy's a great player, but his vocals are really something else. I first saw Danny in NIN, and was immediately impressed watching him bounce from instrument to instrument like he'd been playing them forever.
Billy is probably my favorite guitarist. I remember being a kid in the early 00s just getting into guitar and listening to Mer De Noms and just being amazed at what he could make the guitar sound like. APC is still the best concert I’ve been to to this day.
Same. I fell in love with Billy through apc. He's a class act and a gentleman. It brings me alot of joy seeing so many people supporting his new music. ❤️
the way Billy uses Delays...is something unique on its own;!!! sounds like nothing else and especially sophisticated to create depth and space ...just awesome....if there's a way that Billy explains how he achieves these clean/slightly overdriven tones that sparkle and spread in space like particles in suspension caught by the daylight just crazy stuff in many of his records...such a great tone maker this genius....he put his mark in the modern music....it's less that we can say ..at least...
Man “weak & powerless” is just amazing! I love Billy Howerdel! Without him APC wouldn’t even exist! He is so underrated! One of the absolute BEST musicians out there!
This is an example of great contemporary music in my opinion. As a fan of Prog from way back, I love this kind of thoughtful creativity and artists following their own unique paths and not trying to emulate current trends that often results in mediocre, dated music.
Amazing. I'm blown away. Billy I LOVE your sound. Now it is clear to me who the genius behind APC is. So incredibly powerful, soul wrenching stuff. True ART
Great interview! Nice to see others interested in what Danny Lohner's up to these days as well. Personally feel he deserved more credit, and thought I'd see him leave more of a mark on music by now. Throughout the years, he leaves his stamp on noteable collaborations behind the scenes. Live, havent seen him play in years, but he has a gravitating presence that added to the energy on stage. Good to see him surrounding himself with good company. Time to see what this album's all about
The album is absolutely marvelous and hypnotic. I rarely fall in love with a musical creation as of late, yet since the moment I heard “Beautiful Mistake” I’ve been having a transcendental experience throughout. Thank you, Rick, for the interview and introduction to Mr. Howerdel’s solo masterpieces!
Since Mer De Noms I have been a huge fan of his otherworldly guitar sound! What Normal Was is such an incredible gift! Thank you Billy and thank you Rick for all your amazing interviews and analysis!
Lovely music. I hear influences from Depeche Mode, The Cure, & maybe even a little Tears for Fears (not saying any rip-off is going on, just a "vibe") and the vocal is serene. One of those albums you could listen to on a warm night, watching the stars, as you drift away.
Spot on! I heard these elements too, especially Depeche Mode - Gahan like soothing tones in his voice. Billy has done brilliantly with this album, been a great listen with many layers. Different to Ashes Divide and artistically great that's the case too.
I couldn't press play quick enough when the video popped up! This album is terrific and is another beautiful addition to Billys near flawless catalogue. Sweet socks Danny x
Saw them in Denver at the start of the tour. Probably 100 people in attendance. It was great! The band was so engaging and sincere. Brought my 18 yo son for his first live show at a venue this size. The crowd was so cool. Get out and see them if you can, totally worth it!
One absolute in life is that a Billy Howerdel record is going to sound exquisite with some beautiful soundscapes and lush guitars. I love how good his albums sound. Also Danny is fricken hilarious. I love all of his remixes he has done over the years. Go check them out. Plus the dude wrote "Hurt" and "Closer" and anything Trent Reznor does in the future.
Billy Howerdel is able to make ANYTHING sound interesting. It makes me wonder "what's gonna do next"?.....Everytime......I simply love his way of making music just as much as...the music he makes!! Mesmerizing.
Met Billy back in the Projekt Revolution tour in 2008 backstage. Never met before but we had a deep 10-15 min conversation about music. Lol. My ex took a few pics from afar, with him and I both deep in talk. Great guy.
I've been a huge fan of Billy with the Perfect Circle stuff, but it's so great that his solo album is a completely different experience. I've also really enjoyed the Renholdër mixes for ages. They work so well together. Just bought it.. listened to it.. love it!
Oh, where have I been?! Amazing. Thank you for this. I have been a big fan of Billy Howerdel for quite a few years and just saw this video. Such humble talent. Always looking forward to his art.
Im glad someone finally noticed that through-composed guitar part. Learning that when I was a teenager made me think " how the hell is nobody talking about this extremely original and melodic part", it's very unusual.
I am convinced Billy is a vampire and doesn't age. He looks the same as he did when APC first started. lol And love the new album and that fact that he works with the legendary Danny Lohner! Who is one of my heroes!
Thanks Rick for this video. It made me listen to the entire record and it is truly an jewel. Refreshing and inspiring in this age of shallow massive noise. As always, you channel is a blessing for our community.
Great interview, but wouldn't it be awesome if Renholder could have his own separate interview? Thanks for all you do Rick, always the best questions...
This is a great way to see the people behind the music we like and/or introduce us to new music. It's probably also a fantastic way for the bands to advertise their new work, because it actually tells you about the music in a way that a 30 second commercial can never do. BTW: I'm getting a real Depeche Mode feel from some of this.
As the comments suggest, Billy really captured that unique 80s vibe while keeping his APC influence on it..I've really enjoyed the album. Everything about it is on point and sounds great

Billy is such an underrated guitarist. This episode should have 10X the views and comments. Thanks so much for having him.
i feel like people don't really get what that phrase means, dude is super famous, trying listening to more bands
I hold his work in high regards. He's so damn good, Phil
Danny Lohner is basically a legend for me. Involved in so many great pieces of music I love. Thank you, Renholdër!

I came here to say this!!! The Ashes Divide album he did is one of the few albums I listen to in its entirety still to this day!
Shame he only release one album of that style as a solo artist
Wow, Billy's album is great, gives me vibes of Depeche Mode with the mix of the latest APC
Almost a Puscifer vibe
Yep, I hear that too. And a little bit of the Cure in Beautiful Mistake. All great stuff!
Tears for fear

It’s great seeing Danny pop up more places since the rock and roll hall of fame.
😶🌫️Hmm..🤔..makes sense.. Nice observation, my friend. Agreed & Indeed, that is great.
Danny is an absolute hero man, monster of a player and ear and unique human being, he's hilarious, big respect would love to work with him
The a perfect circle song Renholder is named after him, I think it’s his nickname but I know it had his last name in it backwards
criminally underrated. He has touched so many of my favorite artists.

Billy’s had a few people Trent used back in the day. It really shows the quality of talent Trent picked 20 years ago.

He recently played in Mexico with Till Lindermann from Rammstein!!! Till's bassist couldn't make it and Danny took over
Weak & powerless is one of the most soul touching alt tracks with one of the best mixes I’ve personally have ever heard

Billys solos on Feathers and By and down the river are freaking beautiful. Raw talent.
Billy's and Danny's work is great!
How am I just now seeing this interview?!?! So great…of course…it’s Rick Beato.
