Final Fantasy 15 Gameplay Walkthrough Part 1 Duscae Episode Demo Complete
FFXV is an action role-playing game with third-person shooter elements. The characters have the ability to traverse the environment in a free-running style, which also extends to battle with larger enemies. During navigation, markers can be placed around the environment to help with navigation.
The world is a large connected landmass which can be explored on foot or by using a car or a chocobo. Loading screens are only encountered when the party is entering a city or town. They can visit such locations to rest in hotels or buy equipment and ingredients for cooking during camping. The car can be driven by Noctis, or one of the other characters can take control, enabling an auto-drive option. It is maintained by the mechanic character Cidney. To ride chocobos, the player must rent them. A day-and-night time system affects the appearance of monsters on the world map.

Dustin Nuttall Also, FFXII was turn-based in a way. It had a timer, so you couldn't just spam the attack move like in here.
X-2 and any game after (XI, XII, XIII, XIII-2, XIII-3, XIV) have the funnest combat systems out of all the Final Fantasy games imo. They were still turn-based, but added a little variety so it still felt new while remaining traditional.
Dustin Nuttall XIII has one of the best battle systems in the series. The only thing bad thing people keep saying about it is Auto-Battle, but the thing is..._nobody forced you to use it. You people literally complained about a feature you didn't even have to use._

Yeah being a smoker, talk about a trigger to go outside and smoke. Also upon coming back in, the game was always still loading... That's why I'm in no rush to buy Sony machines, lengthy installs on multiple levels drive me insane.

You should see how much room each game takes up on the hard drive for ps4 games......I literally had to delete some of my games to make room for a new one I just bought. Some of them took up 54gigs.....while my Dragonball xenoverse that I bought digitally takes up only 10gigs like wtf??

I'm reading all these comments complaining about how it's not turn based or how they're veterans to the series. I'm just sitting here completely new to the franchise. For a first impression this is appealing to me. I'm not particularly fond of turn based games excluding Pokemon, but even that's kind of ran its course. I love free roaming open world action games like Kingdom Hearts, or GTA, etc. I love that because it's more unpredictable. It relies on you to make the win rather than preset calculations. You're more likely to make mistakes when free roaming. And the other thing I know about Final Fantasy is that this isn't the first free roaming game in the series. So they've strayed from the traditional turn based games a while back. I wouldn't group the franchise as one type of game. Each game has their own separate game mechanics. How the developers decide how to handle the battle system is up to them. If you don't like it then this isn't the game for you, but you can always give it a try before turning your nose up at it. You should expect that this won't be the last free roaming action game they're going to make. Don't think that developers have to follow their own tradition. Sometimes it's better to do something different to draw in a different crowd.

I began playing Final Fantasy when the original first came out, and I have so many amazing memories with this franchise - it's a part of my life that's very special to me! I'd highly recommend playing FFVI and FFIV, also there is a remake of FFVII that is coming out soon that you'll almost certainly love, everyone is very excited for it because that was one of the best in the series and it's going to be totally updated for modern systems. FFIV has an update that's actually pretty dated now, but it has got a great story and it's lots of fun. But FFVI... well, let's just say that many gaming sites and journalists rank it as one of the greatest games ever made - even though it's a Super Nintendo game from the early '90s. It's got one of the best stories...like, you'll probably cry, laugh, and get all of the other feels - even though it's just sprites in 2-d and a 16-bit soundtrack with no cutscenes or voice acting. They just wrote and executed a really, really wonderful story filled with amazing characters. Don't forget the other games that are kind of tangential too - Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and so on. There really is a whole lot going on with the series. I don't blame folks who are disappointed that they didn't get their personal thing served to them in this game, whatever it might be. Final Fantasy is so large now that no game can contain all of the things that everyone loved because some of those things contradict each other. Some like having a set hero character, some like to design their own. Some like setting up a party and questing, others like a linear storyline where characters can (and do) part ways - like, for instance, dying permanently. Some are really stuck on a turn-based combat system, but as we see in people like you that's not what everyone wants, and if Final Fantasy is to remain relevant it must attract new fans. Honestly, a concrete turn-based JRPG-style system like in the old days would probably feel outrageously confining and slow to a lot of modern players - why make the game inaccessible to them simply to pacify some old fans who don't want to try something new?
As for me? Well, I don't really play games anymore... and I haven't completed a FF title since FFVII. But I will be buying a PS4 just for this game, and I'm going to start working backwards. I wanted to play FFXIV and FFVIII, but it wasn't enough for me to buy the system. Now that I've got this to look forward to AND I can play those - the system looks worth it. Maybe I'll get into some of the other games that have been doing so well, a lot of them look really good!

I'm a veteran of FF series but I'm excited to this game & FF 7 Remake. Turn based games already had its glory days. Now it's the turn for the next gen console capabilities to bring more possibilities to the FF series. There's not much to explore anymore with turn based system.

That's not "emo" - that's just Japanese street fashion. Granted, it's a pretty "dark" take on it, maybe closer to "goth" on Noctis (name reference?) and as for the others, well Prompto looks a bit grunge - he's supposed to be from a lower social class, so that fits - and Ignis is wearing a suit. That's not any kind of emo style I'm familiar with. Gladio looks kind of like a biker. Is it the haircuts that are throwing you guys, or the voice acting... or are you just trying to find fault in what looks like a beautiful and amazing game? Because if its the latter, I totally get it. This game, no game, can be everything to everyone - that's why complaining about the lack of a turn-based combat system is just as pointless. Why would they try and shoehorn such a stodgy, slow battle system into an open-world game with so many action elements? I personally approve of this deviation away from the traditional zoom-in-and-cue-the-fight-song style, yet I've been playing and loving these games since the first one came out. I can't wait for this game, I'm pretty sure I'm even going to just go ahead and buy a PS4 so that I can play it. If there's something you don't like about it, feel free to complain - don't get me wrong, you've got the right - but if you skip out on this title over something so marginal as the hairstyles of the characters or the battle system you've never even experienced (and therefore can't say you won't enjoy) I just think you're missing out. Go do a replay of FFVI instead, there's plenty of Final Fantasy for everyone.

I agree. Plus what makes the gameplay complaints stupid is the fact that this game was also meant to be an action RPG. I don't know why they are just now complaining about that considering the length of this game's development.

Joe Mitchell I've been waiting since 2009, and actually, I didn't bother waiting for such a long time. I don't know why... There were other cool games/series coming out + school + I had only a PS2 back then.
Of course, this doesn't apply to everybody. It just sounds a bit sad to me when somr people say "I've been waiting for this for xx years", as if they didn't have any other things to do until now.... o.O On th other side, it just shows how excited people are^^ "they can't wait" :D I think ff15 will be awesome!!^^/

I made a promise to myself, never to buy a FF game at launch ever again. Not after the travesty that was FF13. That said, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far from this game. Looks to be a big leap ahead of FF13 so far.
FFXIII is one of those games that you really need to know what you're getting into before you play it. I started it out knowing what it was going to be, and what it would and wouldn't bring to the table, and I really enjoyed it. People who bought it day one expecting it to be like the other Final Fantasy games were probably extremely dissapointed....
I thought FF14 was the big disappointment game.
Looks like jumping with the sword thing will be the main mode of transportation - running seems to take forever.

But those characters, plot, dialogue, lack of personality of the characters you were supposed to care about... No. Just I don't ever wanna see that again in a FF game. I am still struggling to finish FF13 and FF13-2 just to have them behind me, but quite some time passed and I'm not done with them because I just have to stop when they drive me crazy
Andy Andy warping is only available during combat. The full game will have a car you can use to explore the world. It's also hinted that Chocobos are going to be a means of transportation as well. Hajime Tabata is currently thinking about implementing an airship in the game, but that's only a thought as of right now.
talas attila Really? I thought the characters, their personalities, and the story were all fine. Besides the huge deus ex machina at the end, everything seemed to make sense and it never made me cringe or think "what the fuck was that!?" I mean, it's really on-par with games like FFV in terms of writing, and everyone seems to think that game is an under-appreciated classic.

+TheIhearttruffles27 His art-design is breath-taking, just like most of the other designs seen in this game, specially the Naga and Numb Blade! Have you seen the images? They're pretty phenomenal, some of the best designs I've seen in years. The Naga, is pretty much a direct recreation of the Naga of Yoshitaka Amano's original art-work from the original Final Fantasy on the NES dating all the way back to the 80's. I could kiss the lead art-designer right about now for recreating all these long lost designs!

well you cant spam dodge cause stasis bar ggoes down fairly quick an you cant block attacks from many enemies unless you counter so idk what youre talking about weeb

Everytime i see a new final fantasy i am drawn to it, and i initially they always look great, and im always thinking "maybe square is getting in the groove“ but as soon as i spend some time watching or playing it, it just feels super generic, doesn't invoke the tiniest bit of imagination, and i dont know if its because i played too much grand theft auto so my mind is warped, but the open world always just feels empty, like something is missing, i just cant put my finger on it. I get the feeling i have with an arcade game, yeah it might entertain me for a period, but somehow it lacks depth, so it never draws me in.

i think it's because this game's been written over a decade ago so changing characters would not be the same it looks like final but who knows it could turn out different isn't all final fantasy games different on characters its a new route lets give it a chance 4 bros one adventure that's something new and only one thing to ever happen lets give it a shot

Square's still working on the swimming mechanic for the full game, so they took it out from the demo. Plus, nobody complained in the older Final Fantasy games when the main characters didn't swim, so why start now?

Fendera The game is still in development. I am sure there are still game mechanics to be added. But, in all honesty, I don't think I've ever played a FF game where swimming was possible at every body of water. Can only remember swimming in FF games when the story forced you to.

Evans O I admit I didn't finish 13 so can't speak to the whole story. I heard it gets better towards the end, but the first 20 hours had almost no story. It was all find Serah; keep looking for Serah; keep looking for Serah some more. I appreciate that people say the story eventually gets better, but for it to take so long to get to a good story I say is below Final Fantasy's standards.

Am I the only one who didn't really enjoy the turn based combat? Live action was much more intense and actually did take more skill. Turn based makes it RNG as you can possibly miss attacks and such. It might even make things kind of patterned, which is boring. I really can't wait to play this game. Every RPG game I've loved on the Playstation have been live action, like Kingdom Hearts, Rogue Galaxy, Monster Hunter, Drakengard,etc.. Can't wait to see if this could make it as one of my favorites.

Next. FUCK me, Ignis is british. Prompto's voice is very light and cheery, I really like it. Gladiolus' voice is not as heavy as I thought. Noctis' voice is utterly smexy (I don't know how to describe it.).They cast great voice actors for them!!
Oh my God, the food. It looks so real and so delicious... Ignis is a great chef for all of them. I bet he took the role of 'mom' there xD Noctis was so cute when he tries to wake up! I can see a little tiny part of his spoiled prince!

I kinda over used the swords when I found them... I wouldn't engage into battle unless my MP was charged. Also, you can defeat the largest group of Magitek troops (20 troops) in 9 seconds, if you have the modifiers from Garula Sirloin and Armiger activated (With Noctis' level at 62). They need to be nerfed. I don't know why people don't use Armiger...

They will have swimming in the final product. They just didn't want you to fight the dinosaur looking monster because you'll get insta killed fighting that thing. That thing hurts more than the behemoth.

Reynaldo Lazaro It's still in development, man. Not to mention, swimming has never been a staple for FF games. I don't think there is one FF game where you can swim at every single body of water you come up to, only when the story makes you do so.

It's cool seeing how different the controls are in this demo from where they are now, I prefer the way they are now.
People complaining that its not turn based.. Then dont buy it. Every great artist ventures out to try something new, whether it's good or not. It's like if you make great spaghetti, but you dont use garlic, so this time, you use garlic.. Who knows, maybe it will be good? Others might not like it, but some might like it more.
Can the FF community move the hell on from turn based already? I'm personally sick of it. The first ten games were turn based. Enough is enough! Good on Square.

Wow, been playing the final fantasy series for over 15 years. I have to say this one looks the best one to date. The soundtrack this sounds promising. Can't wait..........Please release on the announcement day in March :D

After reading, commenting, and exploring the internet for discussion of FFXV action oriented gameplay for awhile (also watching DMC automatic gameplay), something crossed my mind - HOW actually SE could embed TURN BASED combat style into this action oriented game (and save future FFs from this kind of fans debates). Here's what in my mind, SE could give more option of gameplay - FYI they did already announce that there will add one more 'slower' gameplay during a Q&A in ffxv forum. I don't know how the new addition gameplay will be, but I would like to have this kind of gameplay:
- The player could control all the party members in turn based manner, just like older FFs
- BUT, as the player give the order, for example to 'attack' - the character won't only do a single attack & just standing waiting for his next turn. Instead, he will keep attacking in 'automatic mode' (involves blocking & dodging) until his next turn comes.
- The player could pick which enemy to attack (just like in turn based game), and if the enemy is defeated before the character's next turn comes, he will automatically attack other enemies.
- When the player choose to use items (like potion), he could pick how many potions at once (in case the character is heavily injured) and to whom it will be used (this is very strategic to give 'healing' duty to less attacking power character like Prompto & let someone like Gladiolus keeps attacking). After finished giving the potion, the character then does the automatic action movement again until the next turn.
- Using this approach, SE could also add special attack option (something like Limit Break) when the characters are badly injured.
- Everytime the player giving order, the combat will enter to slow motion mode - so the player won't be rushed when picking the strategy.
- After giving the order, the player could see the whole battlefield (just like in a turn based game) but in a more action oriented way (since the characters don't only standing passively waiting his turn). Everytime the player giving the order, the camera will zoom to the character (just like in the Niflheim footage video, when Prompto shooting flares or Ignis casting spell).
This way, old school JRPG fans won't lose the 'strategic' element of the gameplay. And it's quite nice too see the whole battlefield - it's actually quite depressing sometimes only to see Noctis flying around the back of Behemoth or Catoblepas. I really want to see how Gladiolus, Ignis, or Prompto in action. This kind of gameplay won't take tremendous time to develop - since it's actually far more simple than giving all the decisions to the AIs. It also hurts to see a long range character type like Prompto keeps jumping and running around near the enemy & getting kicked. Actually this is the best way to deliver turn based gameplay to the next gen console.
NB: And please don't be harsh if there's actually THAT kind of gameplay already - I've been out of the gaming world for like 10++ years, so my knowledge of recent video games is near to zero. This FFXV game is certainly the game that makes me want to buy a console again. So a civilized discussion is more preferable..^^

The trailer awoke the gamer blood in me lol. So far the combat is concerned, watever we discuss won't change anything. I think they are already going with this direct action style/ there's a slight difference if u compare with the most recent platinum demo. Being an old school JRPG fan (my most fave being FFVI) I do feel a bit sad that they are kind of abandoning the turn based gameplay. But then IDK this might not be bad either, its all about change lol. So far from the trailer, its looking every bit epic and gorgeous. There's a slight feel of all previous FF to it; so yeah am pretty much hyped up for this no matter the combat style involved :)

Actually I'm liking the new Demo gameplay.. The D-Pad affect how Noctis attack so it won't just a single button mashing. There's a channel called 'Asleep in the Fantasy' that showcases the combat system in the new demo perfectly - had you interested to see it.
There will be a feeling missing the old turn based system.. But I certainly understand that there's not much more to explore with turn based system and it becomes more and more niche market.
Just for a trivia Square already intended to change FF to action gameplay as early as FFIV. But they never managed to materialize it and then it was scrapped and released as Seiken Densetsu II.

Turn based within FF isn't dead. Remember that this game was VERSUS before it was ever 15. It wasn't meant to be part of the main series. While I can't say this is gonna be the only action based FF, it doesn't mean the end of a turn based combat system.
I know that the turn-based battle system is out-dated for mainstream gamers, but I really don't enjoy this hack-n-slash action feel that Final Fantasy has taken... I loved 7, 8, 9 & 10 and 10-2. I bought 12 and 13 but weren't impressed. This will be the first non-MMO final fantasy I won't buy.
+Matt Dixon Sucks to be you. Because the game is fine just the way it is. Needs to change battle systems. Keeping the same turn-based, is just going to be boring as hell. Now, they should go back to it in the future and switch back and forth depending on the game and what battle system they need.

I think why FF7 got so legendary is because we got all the components like sepiroth the ultimate boss/ badass/ strong/ personal! God vs Evil, the subtile love story between Cloud and Aeris and Cloud and Tifa, character building where every character got their story and places to be told. We need more of that, more personal quests and not random quests that will give you a high potion after you have cleared it.

Why oh why did they have to make the combat to terrible? Why couldn't they just have made a Final Fantasy X-style system instead of Skyrim? Here's hoping FF VII-remake will featyre traditional FF-combat from pre-2002.

dahdog11 Open-world combat with monsters and magic? Sounds pretty Skyrim to me. This game still has potential, just not in the gameplay-department. At least they could have made an upgraded version of the FF X-system, and I'm not talking about the horrendous catastrophe that is FF 13.
