Throw in the fact that Amos is probably at least 20 years younger, and *wasn't* trying to recover from cancer, and yeah. That would never have ended any differently.
love to see intelligent people watching this show. sometimes it seems like you've almost seen it because you vsth on so fast to certain little things. if you like books, I highly recommend them because they're AMAZING!
21:09 "Nice moment" -- Naomi taking that time to privately talk with Holden through the vibration of sound through the masks, off the net, was very tender. Allowing Holden that brief moment of vulnerability against the pressures he feels. There's such a rawness to Belters that, almost ironically, really speaks to the depth of their humanity in comparison to "the inners" (Earth and Mars). Like our history has so much weight, and Mars' weight is their commitment to their dream, building a garden that nobody alive at that moment will ever even know. Belters are so _present_ in their present. Belters wear their emotions on their sleeves, all those different ways that we as humans are - our desperation, our cunning, our passion, our anger, our viciousness, yet, our innovation, resilience, desire for independence, our desire to roam, our affections, on and on. It's such an interesting dynamic at play between the three. Earth is the regrets of history, Mars is the dream of the future, and the Belters are driven by the motives of _now,_ the needs of each day - never too far back, never too far forward. The passion of now, and the requirement of that mindfulness. She checks to make sure that Holden is _present_ for himself, through his trauma. Sidenote: I also like how Earth, often depicted and stylized as blue, has the "danger" color of red. Mars, the red planet, uses blue as their danger color. Petty, and rebellious lol. Similar vibe to America striving for independence from Britain, choosing to say words differently, spell them differently, govern differently, focus on the economy of innovation, etc. Anyway.
I can't wait for your reactions on The Expanse every week. You are one of my favorite reactors, because you don't scream and shout, you watch the shows and movies with and itelligent mind. That said, I love The Expanse. Although it was a show that had to grow on me. The first season didn't get to me at first. I left the show and then, I restarted it. After 1 x 4 I was completely hooked on it. Season 2 and 3 are amazing. Bobbie is an amazing female character, very brave, very strong, but not lacking of sensitivity and emotions. Great moments to come with her. Miller, great moments, Amos and Alex, always amazing.
Some Earth fiction has migrated to the Belt. Naomi referenced Earth comics where superheroes gained their powers through radiation overdoses (like the Hulk and the Fantastic Four). Also, "Pinocchio" (which will come up later). A later reference is Holden mentioning "Space Gladiators" which refers to both the movies "Airplane!" and "Spartacus." They touched helmets so that the vibrations of their voices transmitted directly through the materials. I read about this back in the 60s during the Space Race. This is the first time I'd seen that done onscreen. I may have squeaked. They spoke about the time delay of information from distant space events to Earth. That's something this series will continue to consider. On rewatch, Admiral Souther gave Avasarala a sharp side eye the moment she told that lie. But she was, for that moment, on his side of the debate.
As well: when talking outside they talk through their radios... which everyone on board can hear. Inside they, um, talk in the air lock which is probably very sound proof.
@@djhart25 It's interesting how characters evolve on this show so that even if we have them for a short period of time, we see an entire character arc.
14:03 This is Amos in a nutshell: Amos is not a sociopath, but believes more in concrete actions and absolutes. He did think the situation out. If Semi had not pulled a gun, Amos might merely have beat him to unconsciousness.
I just want to say thank you Mary for reacting to our beloved show! It means a lot! Since you've started season two I'm pretty sure you will be in for the long haul! Here we are in season two! Buckle up buttercup! It's about to get crazy!
Oh man…. I forgot to mention… now that you finished season 1, you absolutely MUST watch The Expanse Season One Recat! (No, that is NOT a typo of recap!)
In the books, Chrisjen isn't introduced until the second novel, as was Gunnery Sergeant ("Gunny") Roberta "Bobbie" Draper and the spy, Cotyar Ghazi. The first book set up the world and told a noir detective story. The second book is a spy thriller. 😎 Literary references this season expand to include William Shakespeare, in addition to Cervantes and Chaucer. It starts to get wild, now. 😁
There is a reality to this show. The writers know their science which is something other science fiction shows ignore most of the time. Me, I'm looking forward to watching you witness this story and the journey these characters go through. Enjoy because this show is one hell of a ride.
The most profound dialogue happens in this episode and everyone misses it. Including myself. It's the coolest Science Fiction concept to ever happen in a TV show... and despite all the clues, everyone misses it. Mary can you guess it?!? I'll give you one hint. It's a conversation between a man and a woman. If you can figure it out by the end of season 2, episode 7, it would make you the most brilliant, observant, imaginative reactor in the history of RUclips reactions!
A humble request: please, everyone, give characters a couple episodes before you talk them up. The show is better with some uncertainty. ...Mary, I'd like to suggest curating your comments. I do know that you're ahead of where you are on RUclips, but there's gonna be an overflow of enthusiasm that knows virtually no bounds.
One of my favorite things about "The Expanse" is the strong female characters You know 2 already, Naomi and Chrisjen. You just met a 3rd, Bobbie, 3 more to go.
Season 2 is probably my favourite… it is full throttle insanity. Goes from your fairly standard action/drama and takes a hard turn into cosmic horror and Lovecraft territory. Buckle up! 🤘
7:09, its not just the UK. The US President, the Vice President, the first and second famiies and other high level government officials all have code names by their security details.
Dear Mary, I have a movie suggestion just for you. Since you are involved in law how about a movie about law school? It's titled "The Paper Chase". It is a very good movie and was turned into a TV series. I think you'll enjoy it.
Let’s get ready to lose more characters! I really liked a couple of them, sadly. My personal favorite character shows up in this season and the best one scene character in the show does what he does.
Bobbie Draper enters the chat
In a show of great characters, easily top 3.
Glad we're continuing with the Expanse!
Yeah, Bobbie Draper!!!!!!!❤❤❤
Bobbi has entered the chat
Amos is from Earth his muscles and bones are much more denser than MIller's. This fight wasn't going to even be close.
Throw in the fact that Amos is probably at least 20 years younger, and *wasn't* trying to recover from cancer, and yeah.
That would never have ended any differently.
Can't wait for more season 2! This is when I really got invested in this show.
"I'm married, not BLIND..!" 😅

Yup, *NO ONE* does scary eyes quite like Wes Chatham (Amos).
Some call him Murder Snuggles.
Looking forward to the evolution of your feelings about Bobbie
I agree, but careful. Comments like this are very close to spoiler territory imo.

Yay, You are continuing the show.. 🎉
Your reaction to the intimacy was hilarious 😂
*checks over shoulder*

Love the reaction and watching you get more and more into the series! 👌❤
Love your Expanse-Reactions! You are in for a wonderful ride with this series.

Cotyar ❤
He's lovely! 🌹
BOBBIE DRAPER rocks so hard!!
Mary you remind me of Bobbie Draper(you'll release the compliment in Season 6 lol 🌹
It really would be nice to see an ocean on Mars.

Yikes! Who and The Expanse in one day? Here for it.
Lead singer of the Headstones is a Martian.
Next episode is another level up.
Yeah Season 2!
13:15 Type 2 diabetes?
Season 2 is probably my favourite… it is full throttle insanity. Goes from your fairly standard action/drama and takes a hard turn into cosmic horror and Lovecraft territory.

Woohooo! Turn and burn, Mary!
