Have to tell you I have been married for 43 years and tried so many times to make biscuits like my mother in law for my husband, his mom passed many years ago, and for the first time he said " these taste like momma's biscuits". I was so happy. THANK YOU young for lady for teaching this old lady how.

Looked at this recipe because I have always been intrigued as to what Americans call biscuits and butter milk. I expected something unusual to me but surprised to see that the American biscuits are what we in the UK call Plain Scones. I have seen that these are often eaten with crisp bacon and cream/ soft cheese which I may also try as I'm wanting to learn more about American foods away from the Pitsa Hutt Subway
    Mac.Donalds and KFC.
I am going to follow you as you are opening my eyes and mind to new things to bake and enjoy. Thank you.

      @Luise Jones
I have not had scones in your country, but I have had many in different places across the US, and even cafes and tea rooms that feature them and have cookbooks for them, and I have collected some of those as souvenirs from my travels. So that may not mean anything to you since I have not had them personally in the UK. But for what it’s worth, the ones I have had are nothing like the flaky biscuits that are shown in this video. I have had the fast food “biscuits” you have tried and they are not at all what I consider a true biscuit. They are cakey and dry and the texture is different from the flaky biscuits that I am used to as being truest real biscuits. I live in the south, my husband is from the Deep South, and this is a staple southern food, usually served biscuits and gravy along with breakfast like scrambled eggs, along with bacon, sausage, or ham, and grits too.
I am looking to making this recipe because I have been looking for a good flaky biscuit recipe. This is what we all grew up with where I am from but it’s not made as often as it used to. Everyone is so busy and giving in to getting these fast food versions more and more. At some point you get tired of that stuff that’s always disappointing and makes you remember how your mother or grandmother always made it. Nothing can replace that when you’ve had the best. And no one used to think of recipes because they used to be so common; everybody made them so they were just taken for granted, until times like now when you don’t know anyone who makes them anymore. They didn’t even put them in cookbooks because no one measured them out. It was few ingredients and they made them practically every day that they quickly put them together just knowing how it should look and feel with the mix of ingredients. They could have done that in their sleep, ha!
So I am looking forward to making this and my husband will love it too! These biscuits look beautiful!
There is actually a song titled “Where I Come From” that has a line about flaky biscuits, and it says something like , “It ain’t like mama fixed it.” That represents those of us who grew up in the south. Perfect lyrics for a song because they nailed that about southerners!😂
All the best and enjoy! I hope I can have your authentic scones in your country someday to experience what a real scone is and if the ones I have had got it right!😊

Yes will give it a try as I love scones. I usually fail because I overwork the dough. I appreciate you sharing how to make buttermilk which is often overpriced in my country of Singapore. I can’t believe it’s so simple to make! So many thanks for that lesson. ❤️

I like your recipe; I'm going to try it.
My hands are naturally warm, so I keep my hands cold as I press out my dough. (Metal bowl of ice water, hug the sides of the bowl, dry dampness off on kitchen towel.)
I fold my dough in thirds, five times (makes for a very light biscuit).
And, once baked, pull tray from oven, brush biscuits tops with mixture of softened unsalted butter, and a very light mixture of of kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper.
Serve warm at breakfast with butter and jam, marmalade, or apple butter.

Ms Hemingway... I made your biscuits and let me tell you do to only using 2 cups of flour, 1stick of butter and I used heavy cream instead of buttermilk... These biscuits where the best I have ever tasted. I will have to ask if you have a recipe for gluten free biscuits, unless just substitute ref flour for gluten free flour, then I am very happy. However, this is it. I love Popeyes biscuits but no longer have a need for them. I especially love your step by step instructions... BRAVO!!!🎉🎉😊😊🎉😊😊🎉🎉

Though I did measure, it did not turn out as high as yours. Nevertheless it was just fine and absolutely delicious. Thank You 🎉

May be but this southerner appreciates the buttermilk hack! It is a challenge to find buttermilk and then you have to buy more than you need when you only need a portion of the container size so a lot typically goes to waste. If it works, I’m in! Looking forward to making these flaky “buttermilk” biscuits!!😋💯🎉

      Great question! So, I Googled:
"You can freeze scratch-made biscuit dough for a rainy day. After cutting out your biscuits, arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and then transfer it to your freezer."
      Good to know!

These biscuits are amazing! They turned out perfect. I made a second batch and froze them to cook throughout the week. However, when I cooked them they almost burnt. Do you know how I should cook them if they are completely frozen, or do you think I’m doing something wrong in the recipe?

    • @faithfarmforever4795

when I'm doing frozen I just turn the temp down to 425 degrees (I often just cook my biscuits at 425 cuz then I never get them too dark) hope that helps

You know I've been wanting to make bit buttermilk biscuits and I never could find the buttermilk anywhere I don't think they sell it because it doesn't have a high turnover so I have to you have to make your own so I've been RUclips and how to make your own buttermilk and they always say put lemon or vinegar so that's what I've been doing and I still have not made the biscuits even though I bought Mr cutters and I bought all the whole little kid it comes with and I still haven't made it yet so I'm watching you to see how you do it maybe I'll get brave enough and try

I don't mean to make assumptions but I've seen you use Utah honey so um going to assume you're Mormon. I ask that because the best baked breads I've had always came from my Mormon friends 🤣. I mean, hey, it's just a fact.
