While I don't hate the new wheels, man those vintage torq thrusts sure did look perfect on it. All in all it's your car you build it like you want. I know there are those who hate the fact I dropped an LS in my 68 GTO but hey it's mine and it's no longer rotting in a field like it did over 30 years.

Those modern wheels are tacky as hell. Torq Thrusts for the win!
And a digital dash is just as bad. NOTHING beat a '60s dash, and Pontiacs had one of the very coolest looking ever.

I like the new tire size, but the new wheels just rub me the wrong way. Whenever that happens, sure enough, there's an even number of spokes. For some reason, my subconscious only likes odd numbers of spokes.

@@UberLummox Dakota digital makes some very nice looking factory style gages they're not all digital readout. Their RTX line is the best looking original appearing ones. I had to go with VHX by default for my GTO because it's the only aftermarket cluster available by anyone for it, they are needle type and look good but no where near as great as the RTX would have

I grew up in a time when the design of a car was more important than the guts. Cars’ design would change every year. There are a few car designs that never go out of style. That 68 bird is one of those cars. You have the tools and knowledge to make the bones of that car better than it ever was. That is what makes a sweet car even sweeter. Love watching you work your magic.

People might claim that many care today look similar, but I say it's always been this way. For people that are not car buffs, many cars from the 40s(or even earlier) to the 80s look very similar to each other. They Might have spent some more time on the outside for sure, but that is only due to not having all of the emissions crap on older cars

The old factory ones had a one ratcheting screw where the park brake lever goes on. They had a bad habit of freezing up when people did not use the parking brake and also you would get excessive pedal travel

The rules are just as bad here in Australia as well. Then we have cops who also identify as mechanics or mechanical engineers.

The EPA already has rules that have been on their books for a long time that they haven't enforced that stuff is coming here. Just look at what they tried to do to Brent PFI jh 4 * 4 and the list goes on

The range of opinions on the whole stock/modified spectrum never cease to amaze me. On top of that, you have people wanting to control how you live your life, at least as far as your Firechicken is concerned.

That car sure brings back Some great memories of my childhood and working on it with my Dad. It was the starting point of my own mechanical journey. Glad to see your showing it the love it really needs to be a great daily driver with the reliability issues getting sorted out. She's a beautiful car. I totally agree with you about making it your own. These parts are getting harder to find yes they're out there but since 1967 there have been so many breakthroughs and as long as you're having fun with it that's not a problem . Let the haters have there way with there own car because this beautiful version is your family heirloom so let the kids fight over it but until then enjoy her!

Aren't the brake calipers supposed to be symmetrical arranged on both side? You have got the caliper on the driver side mounted towards the front and on the passenger side towards the rear. I have never seen it like that.

The best thing I did to my '57 T-bird was to go to gas shocks, replacing the front sway bar, and adding a rear sway bar. It now drives like a modern car.

Hate to be that guy but I like the old wheels much much better for this Firebird. They look period correct. The new wheels would look ok on a newer car I guess. I know you spent $$$ for the new ones but, swing and a miss IMO

Am loving all the changes and improvements that you have done on the Firebird except the wheels. I just love the look of the stock wheels but hey it's your car and your vision on how it should look and run.

Paul, I'm just like you. I don't care what other people say about not liking my vehicle. I feel that if they do not like my vehicle that bad, then they don't need to call me to come get them when there's won't run.

Hate to say anything negative but that's not how you do a flare. A single flare is way unsafe because they split, and doesn't seat properly inside the hose end. That kit definitely came with the die for a proper double flare. Just wanted to put that out there so people don't start doing it this way.

Paul, if you fab a couple of hooks to hold the chuck key. Then mount them on the face of the lathe, the chuck key is handy and you can at a glance see the is key not in the chuck before start. Great channel!

I paid $800 and loved one of these green 1968 Firebirds when I was in college ''79-83 and did a lot of fun "upgrades" just to see what does and does not works; Accel coil, recurved the distributer, a high rise intake, with 600 CFM Holley, etc. Also, huge bias ply rear wheels would hydra plane and spin me on the highway in rain. Since, the suspension was and designed to work with 14 x 70 series bias ply tires, big radial tires made for a stiff terrible ride with a lot of bump steer. The big block 400 CI engine made it a pig in the corner so I got large torsion bars from a Camaro in the salvage yard. And, the manual front and rear shoe brakes where scary bad, but I had no money to change. Glad you are keeping it.
