Lali’s European motorcycle adventures would be awesome. Vocalizing intentions is scary for me because now that idea is real (somewhere other than just my mind). I worked in a uni at one of the medical research buildings our team did DNA sequencing for the students, who sent us samples of infected blood taken from mice loved that job, was divisional admin, now counsellor and mental health support officer
I found you through Shadetree and Doodle. I grew up in Hershey and had been looking for local, or somewhat local, motovloggers to get ideas for roads to ride when I first got my bike. Found you and have really enjoyed the content and seeing familiar places. Happy Holidays!

It's hard to put a price on work flexibility! At this time in my life, you literally can't pay me to work a traditional job. It's so rewarding to manage your own time, I feel grateful every day.
Congrats on almost finishing your PHD. That's a huge accomplishment you should be extremely proud of as not a lot of people can push through that process. Working from home is amazing! I've been working from home since 2020 and it does have a lot of freedom that comes with it which is great. If you're ever interested in riding in Western New York let me know! It's beautiful outside of Buffalo. There's lots of farm land and also woodsy areas. Also on the East Coast, RI & NH provide some absolutely breathtaking views and routes. Happy New Year Lali. @@AntiParallali Yes, it is the MotoMus dealership. I've been eyeballing a Gladius and had the spare time to go and check it out for myself. I was able to buy it on easy terms and before picking it up, it will have a full revision, since it is a second hand motorcycle. Too bad that it is cold season and I didn't had the chance to try it out. I'll keep you updated. Cheers!

@@AntiParallali Hey there! I am baaack so, I have the bike. They've revised it and put some crash bars on it, fetched me a red number plate (provisional), which took approximately 2 weeks after I sent them a notice that I'd like to pick up the bike. When I went to get it, they gave it to me with 1 month of insurance and all the paperwork which it came with (since it is an imported bike from Italy). All in all, it was as smooth as possible. Cheers!

Lali: A former co-worker and friend of mine was a PHD. His job (by choice): Security Supervisor in a food plant. Got paid peanuts, by university grad standards. But he was happy. He enjoyed his work. He told me many times that he would never return to the corporate world, because it made him miserable. Be true to yourself, and you'll always be able to look yourself in the eye when you face that mirror.

Wow. I just watched this first thing this morning. Maybe because I didn’t have my coffee yet, but wow ! 😮 My brain has never been more overloaded in 12 minutes. My old lady and I often have to stop ourselves as we are very hard on ourselves, focusing way more on what we want to do or haven't done yet, on the negatives or the hard parts of what we have done (mostly talking about our old home we are slowly making our own and fixing up), and not appreciating what we have done enough.. Family and friends are often amazed and very complimentary and we shrug it off.
I should practice what I preach, but for you I'd say it's just a testament of how hard you work and how awesome of a person you are with respect to the field you've chosen or the interests you've pursued ya know. Keep kicking ass and ride safe.

Back when I was in school, my computer science teacher would only acknowledge one’s existence if he was addressed as Dr. I usually called him something else, but I digress. The very last day of school, I learned that he was into motorcycles as well and he exuded youthful excitement by simply conversing about riding. I had an advanced mathematics teacher for a study hall that would give me problems to occupy me as a cumulative punishment for talking. Turns out, getting through 2/3 of the book was enough for me to test out in college and for a Trigonometry refresher at work. My friend there has a mathematics degree and I believe every engineer also had to take the class. I learned significantly more from that study hall over the course of the year than realizing at the time, and felt I learned more from the Dr. at that instant than my entire duration in his class. You’ll find the right path for you whether it’s call you Dr. for a day or forever. Thank you for sharing your journeys and on becoming Dr. Lali!

I finished riding The lower 48 states this year. It took me many vacations to be able to make it happen due to time constraints. Absolutely worth it. You have plenty of time to see everything.

Yooooo I didn't know you're a grad student! I'm finishing my Master's degree and just applied to PhD programs. I apply machine learning to public policy and international relations. My current research is using machine learning and spatial analysis to identify areas at risk for housing insecurity in the US, and I ride my KLR almost every day!

Lali, 1) I so love when you ride around the Hershey area. Brings back very happy memories when our family lived there many years ago. 2) Do you realize what a great accomplishment achieving a PhD is? Only like 1% of people in US ever reach that level. That alone makes you a stand out. 3) And you love the motorcycle life. Adding all that up makes for an epic life experience. As a EU rider, just passed my exam in November now awaiting to purchase a bike (my first one!) and ride, I am eagerly awaiting to get the first ride in, on my own motorcycle! 🏍 As a fellow Dutch resident like Itchy Boots, what she does, is something I would love to do! Maybe not as huge as she dares and does but love the idea to ride everywhere! Absorbing sights, language and knowledge of culture, food and drinks and of course meet people.

@10:30 -- Many years ago (like about 50), walked into an AAA office in Munich (!!!!!), showed a nice lady my U.S. driver's license, and walked out ten minutes later with international driver's license.

If you live vicariously through other moto-vloggers trust that a lot of us live vicariously through your adventures. Really dig your commitment to doing what you makes you happy and not what brings you the most money (although maybe those two will intersect one day!). While on your east coast tripping and if you ever make it to NC make a point to visit Deal's Gap.
I was just binge watching Itchy Boots when I got a message you uploaded a new video. Haha, perfect timing! I like your idea of staying out of the corporate world. I did the corporate thing for about 10 years and felt like my soul was dying. Now I do what I want, travel around on my motorcycles, and enjoy my life so much better. I will be honest, this last video when Itchy Boots got injured just made me sad in some way... Being persistant is one thing, but being stubborn is another. I hope she put her self first then motorcycle second so she get well soon.

Given your academic choices, not doing the corporate or fellowship/professor thing is really going to put a damper on your career prospects. That said, doing what makes you happy is important. I hope you can find something that allows you to do what makes you happy.

Wishing you all the fortitude needed to write that thesis. Some people never quite get it done but I have faith in you. I expect you will be mia for awhile. My wife has only had one employer and she is the only person I know who can say that. Her MSc got her into the field she wanted. My P.Eng. didn’t do it for me… so many career corners. It’s about the journey, but definitely celebrate the destinations along the way.

Doctor Lali, eh? Best of luck with that! Nice area you ride in there, love those PA state roads, my last few trips I've been trying different routes using mostly the state routes (rather than just going up15/11), I've turned a 225 mile trip into nearly 400 a couple of times, but I figure I've got all day so why not? And one trip I told my brother I wanted to ride over to Pine Creek Gorge after I got up there, so he pulled his ZRX out and we did a 300-mile loop (via Hyner View State Park), so that was a 500-plus mile day for me. Looked like a bit of a roller coaster showing in the background late in the video, was that Hersheypark? I have a future route planned that will go by Knoebels, I figure that's a bit north of you.

I'm glad to see you could get a December ride in. Where I live in upstate NY they had already started spreading salt and my whooping bike (150 China scoot scoot in my profile picture) is still down because I haven't had the time or focus to finish getting the parts for wrapping up the new engine build.
We just got pounded by a polar vortex here. Hopefully it stayed far enough north to miss you, so that you can continue to enjoy two wheels a little longer.
Also I was going to ask, how long do batteries last on your cameras? I have a few that I take out basically to track traffic in case of an accident, and I don't get more than about an hour fifteen out of them

Hi Lali, first of all: Happy to hear that your life is evolving, as you wish! Keep it going and be the good person you are. 😉
Second: I'm kind of sad to type this and I'm going to lean far out of the window here... It's truly a pity you live in the US... WHY? Your job description sounds like you are EXACTLY the kind of "smart cookie" my employer is making the most use of. We work mostly remote, we work for "the big names in pharma" (although strangely not being one of those large consulting companies we compete with), we are kind of a "jack of all trades" team (biologists, marketers, software developers, project managers) stuffed with a bunch of nice and nerdy people AND we will most likely be looking for new staff later this year... Sounds good? Hope so... 😁BUT (and here comes the sad part): We are based in Germany.... 😐On the other hand: We (remotely) do lots of work with teams in the US, so maybe we should give it a try and talk later this year?!
That sounds like a pretty ideal work environment especially if you cooperate with a US team. I'm not sure how work visas function in Germany, but I do have Romanian citizenship too so not sure if through some EU agreement I could theoretically work for a German company without having to apply for any special permit. With the IDP you just need to make sure whatever AAA office you go to can take your photo or not. If not go to a Walgreens and they can get you passport photos before going to the AAA office.
I think maybe a z900 or a z1000 keeping in line with the way that you seem to have a liking for sport bikes
I do like me my naked bikes. You get the power of a sportbike without the uncomfortable seating position

Nice. What about after your PhD; are you planning to stay in academia and do your post doc or you are going to industry? I'm from Brazil and I came to Arizona in 2018 to do my Post doc and now I am a research scientist at UofA working in the Department of Peds.
Definitely industry. I think academia has its good side, but I think it closes scientists in their own little closet and cuts them off from the world a bit too much for my liking
