- This is a video about tying, trimming, and adding eyes to a GameChanger Fly. This is a fly that has become popularized by Blane Chocklett, who recently released a book called GameChanger. In this video I use the following materials:
1. Mop Tail (Part of cleaning products, can be subbed for marabou, or synthetic tails).
2. Articulated Shanks (1 Tail, 2 x ~10mm, 2 x ~15mm - I make my own).
3. Dubbing Brushes (I make mine, but you can find a wide variety online).
4. GSP 100d thread (white).
5. Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails.
6. UV resin thin/thick/flex.
7. Various scissor sizes.
8. Eyes (I used some from Fly Tyer's Dungeon).
9. Connecting wire/Nylon Coated Leader 20-30lb test.
Please comment any questions/concerns/thoughts below. If you'd like to suggest another video, please let me know!

Great tie and one of the best I’ve seen on RUclips as far as clarity of video, description of technique and materials used. Great resource you’ve made here for new tiers and many useful tips and tricks. As far as the finished product goes, the trimming being done all at once at the end of the tying process seems to work better for me as well as I feel I have more control over the finished shape of the fly. Again, great tie!
Love seeing your slow water game changers on insta. Now that I've started tying my own changers this was so helpful. Especially all of the trimming advice and the really well captured footage!
Thanks for the feedback! Shoot me a message on IG if you ever have any questions!
Extremely well produced video. Love the clean up shot.
Thanks so much for your feedback! Took a while to film and edit so I’m glad to know it’s appreciated.
Thank you for the close up camera work and alternative angles very very helpful. As others have said the pop up comments and voice over really beneficial.
I’m so glad it’s been helpful for people! Thanks for the feedback! Helps me know how to make future videos.
Great video and technique - learned a lot.
Nice work. I like your in video text box call outs. The voice over comments also great.
Thanks so much! Took a while to get them how I wanted, but I'm glad that they help! Any feedback for future videos?
Thanks Ryan!! Great, well done instructional video!!!!
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Well done! Good explanations!
Thanks so much!
Excellent video Ryan. Thought I was right there with you!!!!
Thanks Preston!
Following you on IG your changers are killer gonna try my hand at some soon thanks for the great videos
I really appreciate the feedback and I'm glad to know that you've found some value from the content. I hope to make a few more videos this year if things quiet down in life a bit.
Great video man! Very well edited and extremely informative. If you ever get the chance make an instructional video on how you make your dubbing brushes. They look quite sick!
I really appreciate the feedback, especially about the editing. It took forever but I’m glad it seems to be helpful!
I’ve gotten a couple requests so it may happen down the road
@@mcfallflies editing is like 90% of all the hard work. Lol.
@@nat_cross you’re spot on. I spent so much longer editing than filming haha!
Great tying, I wonder if this streamer becames too heavy when casting it. Morphologically is stunning.
Good question! But no, it’s relatively light. It sheds immediately with the first false cast.
Very well done! Can you tell me why you reverse-wrap the dubbing brush? And it would be great to know how you make your own links.
That was just purely preference for me. I've since switched back to wrapping the same way as my thread wraps. Doesn't really matter as long as you can adhere it well.
I have a video on my channel about making the shanks if you'd like to see it!
Lots of fame changer videos out there but your focus on especially trimming was appreciated. I'm curious about the composition of your dubbing brush. Congo hair and flash?
Thanks for the feedback! Essentially! Congo hair/ep/poly yarn and flash. It all reacts about the same in a brush
Are you using craft fur on your dubbing brush? I cant seem to make a nice brush that gets me a full body. Maybe I am not using enough fur. you should do a video on making that brush, looks amazing.
I’ve got a brush making video in the pipeline. This brush EP like fibers and flash. Fairly stiff compared to craft fur
Really cool video. What size wire looper did you use to make these shanks?
1.5mm or 2.25mm. Maybe have had some of each. I don’t quite remember!
@@mcfallflies thanks. If I am just planning to tie streamers up to around 4inches, then I assume the 1.5mm will be fine?
@@fransjooste2331 I’d say so!
@@mcfallflies thanks
What gauge wire do you use to make your game changer spines?
hello congratulations very nice video, it would be interesting if you can also make a video of how to prepare the brush, if you can thank you 👍
Thank you for the feedback Dimi! I’ve gotten a number of requests for brush making videos. I’ll probably work on that in the future.
@@mcfallflies Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. As a result of your videos I've now purchased the Oasis dubbing brush table, a couple of looper tools and and trying to figure out where you get your spools of wire and the gauge to get.
@@cpmorris1001 hey Charlie! I appreciate your feedback. I use Master Supply Wire stainless in 32g for these brushes.
Came from the gram, wondering if you will show how to tie with the foam
Thanks for the inquiry. I don't have a video tying that. You can find a tying video at Beast Brushes Website, by the person who originally tied it, Chris Adams. Best of luck!
Watching this video made me hungry.
What scissors would you recommend for the detailed trimming?
What weight rod/line do you use for these flies?
I was watching this again. What size would you say your brushes are if you don't mind sharing.
Hey there! It’s been a while since I made that video, so I’m not sure exactly. I do know that now I’m usually tying a 3-4” fly with about 15” of brush. That depends on the density of the brush of course, but that’s a good rule of thumb for me. About 1” of fly to 4” of brush.
@@mcfallflies Good information thank you, I was interested in the diameter or length of material. I made a small brush table and just was wondering how long you cut your materials.
@@barnman73 ahh! For a 4” fly I don’t usually want my total brush width/diameter to be any more than 2”. You can play around with it and find what works best for you. Essentially double the distance between your hook shank and hook point/gap.
Ryan do you mind sharing what materials you used in your brush?
Angelina fibers and EP style synthetics
What brand are ur dubbing brushes
what material is the dubbin brush??
Synthetics similar to EP fibers
Tutorial on those brushes?
Do you sell any of your game changer flies?
Not regularly but if you’re truly interested feel free to message me on Instagram (@mcfallflies)
Nice and flamboyant, but I have never seen anyone actually use a massive honker fly like this and catch a fish. What are you suppose to catch with this?
Have you actually caught a fish with this? What fish?
Do a little research and you’ll find that they do indeed catch a wide variety of fish. Trout, bass, drum, pike, musky, etc. And yes I’ve caught plenty of fish on these flies.
