  • Clip of Ramin with Leila, who often doesn't get shared a lot when you think of all the Christine's he's had. My favorite part of this video is unapologetically when he "slaps" Raoul. Followed by the ring return. This was Leila and Alex's final night.

Ramin really was born to play this role. I found Leila's voice to be so-so, but what a wonderful actress. Thanks for posting this.

This is a vastly different interpretation than I've seen before. Mr. Karimloo is almost manic (and very, very physical). He' is the master of this role...but I do think I like his later interpretations better.

By far, this is the best ‘final lair’ I’ve seen Ramin do with a wide range of emotions packaged together.
That’s the first time I’ve seen him not sit in his throne before my favorite lines in the whole show ‘You try my patience! Make your choice!’ That’s also the first time I’ve seen him or anyone whisper all of those lines. Those lines defines the character for me.
Why was the 25th Anniversary tamed down a bit? Was it because it was being directed and filmed for a vast audience?

Yeah that’s probably why. There were three shows recorded and then edited together for the DVD. From the livestream to the official CD/DVD you can definitely hear the difference in Ramin’s performance. In the livestream he has many more emotional moments vocally, like in Stranger Than You Dreamt It. But they opted to go for audio where he’s singing it a bit plainer. I wonder if they instructed them to perform a little different for each show. Like have one be more focused on hitting the notes, one be focused on the acting, etc. in order to cut it altogether for a “perfect” HD capture.

@@phanoftheopera thanks for the background information about the video. I bet not many know that there were three recordings.
They were treating it like they do in film/TV productions; multiple takes and interpretations to choose from.

Was this before Ramin became Principle and did Gina Beck join immediately after Leila Benn Harris left that night.

Ramin was principal here, he had taken over the year prior once Earl Carpenter had left. Gina (and the other new members) joined at the next show, which would’ve been that Monday.
