I still remember those days 30 years ago when i was an Airborne Trainee wannabe Paratrooper back then.I have tears of pride that these guys go through now remembering that i used to be one of them once upon a time as a young Infantryman.Honestly down deep in my soul i never wanted to fail Jump School because my Dad,Uncles, and Brothers graduated from that great and fine school.I did not want to fail my family and the guys i went through with.It is always pride of being a Paratrooper that kept me going.I had to do it myself and i did. When i got to my unit i did every jump and enjoyed being a Paratrooper being in the unit.Yet the Army had other plans for me in other places.Yet being a Paratrooper is always the best experience of my life until i leave this earth. My Airborne Infantry unit is still my other family for life as my Brothers. But Ummmmm. The Company C.O. and 1SG to include the BC and Battalion SGM will always be above me.I am still one of their Paratroopers...AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!!!
I was a Black Hat in 1969. Seems like a lifetime ago. I worked in Ground Week. I still remember what a great feeling it wast to exit that aircraft for the first time. Airborne!
I gave a parachute demo at 7 yesterday old to a new class of soldiers getting ready to train here. My commanding officer was Lt.Col Tate., US Army. He admonished them with this, "so easy a little kid can do it!".
So people asking why Marines are there is because it's open to all branches of the military. Those going through Navy Seal training go here right after BUDS to get airborne qualified and Marines that are in recon and wish to go into force recon must be airborne qualified as well so there are going to be a lot of recon marines at Airborne school as well. Also Airborne school is probably the least challenging school for infantry MOS'. It can be scary if you hate heights but in terms of difficulty it's a breeze.
That's because the main thing is safety. They ride your ass a little bit, but it's really not anything compared to even basic. The airborne units are a different story.
Thanks for the video. My son is in the Army. When he completes AIT he will be headed to Airborne training then off to RASP. I think he has both the mental and physical toughness. On his 17th B day he went sky diving at 17 1/2 he completed a marathon. I hope he maintains his toughness and completes it. Thank you to everyone serving and that have served. Without all of you we wouldnt be the greatest Nation on the planet.
I graduated basic doing 40 pushups and made it through Airborne School graduation date 6th of July 2007. Landed in the 82nd Airborne(307th En Bn Sappers), making E-1 to E-5 in 3 years. My buddies who stayed in made E-7 in 7 years or were selected. If you cant walk the walk dont talk the talk.
Also, the 34-foot towers were designed because Army shrinks discovered if you had a hidden fear of heights it would manifest at that height; something about the attitude to the ground and the view from that height. I know we washed some surprising folks out after only one trip through the 34-foot tower. The 250-foot tower sold me even more than I was already on the ambition to jump.
Today, the 34 feet tower is done before the PLF training because a lot of people tend to quit during the 34 feet tower so they try to get rid of people quickly as possible
wow does that bring back memories,.. i was 17 years 7 months old when i was there "keeper of the wings" 1986,.. we didn't wear tennis shoes though we wore boots. " the ol black leather kind , shined to perfection nightly :) and i don't remember a board for our hands while doing push ups in the pit lol. in fact we wore just reg BDU uniforms not pt gear. my secret weapon was i had just come from el paso "ft.bliss and was used to the high altitude, the air was soooo thick with oxygen at ft. benning in comparison i could run forever. ahhhh those were the days of my youth.
I did Airborne at Benning in September/October of 2006. Yeah, PT was in BDU's, but we [did] have running shoes, and to don't remember any boards or other accommodations for the PT test.
C Co Bulldogs, Dec 1986. I remember our "keeper of the wings" on his first jump. He found/landed on the jeep that the black hat with the bullhorn used. They would park out there in the middle of the DZ and call up instructions. I think he wound up breaking his leg. :( Also, on the Friday run during tower week, we figured out the bulldog mascot led the AM run, so that Thur night the SDO had anyone he found awake, he told them to take the dog out (4 a run). By AM that dog did not want to run. The Fri AM run was a breeze.
Went through in 1968, it’s changed so much. One thing we ran PT in our uniforms and boots. Never understood why they changed to running shoes when you wear boots in combat.
In 1980, we lost 1/3 of our class of 600 . Then it was 45 PERFECT pushups in under 2 min.; 45 PERFECT situps in under 2 min.; and the two-mile run in combat boots in less than 17 minutes. As a Marine who failed said sadly, the FIRST 45 pushups and situps he did were easy - it was the 2nd and 3rd set we had to do to satisfy the blackhats that killed us. So tired by time the run came he blew it by a few seconds. I passed but it about killed me too. That's how you fail such an "easy" PT test...
That major has a Ranger Scroll. We Rangers are allowed to put attitude into our beret. You would know that if you served with the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Army Physical Fitness Test at Airborne school is 2mins push ups, 2 mins sit ups, the 2 mile run and when I went through in (2004) we had to dead hang on the pull up bar for 10 seconds and then do one pull up. They stop you at the minimum. They don't care if you can max a PT test, just that you meet the standard. And the rest of airborne school is just dumb events that don't really give you anything but sore bones until you actaully see what it is like to jump which is easy and fun.
hahaha... I'm trying to get a Ranger contract right now for the regiment but never forget the old guys like you who made it possible for the rest of us young bucks lol so thank you sir! lead the way
I had a friend who made it all the way through basic and jump school at Ft. Benning, GA. back in the eighties. He said some people didn't make it through jump school for fear of heights and some were just not ready to take their military stay to a higher level. He was surprised to see some West Point Cadets taking the course too.
hes from 10 moutnain division. maybe he never deployed with an airborne unit, rather 10 mtn. but he probably spent plenty of time in garrison in one so i guarantee he's a master parachutist
Ah no I served with him in FT Campbell and in Berlin he was my team leader he's infantry all the way he has multiple deployments to include the 75th and SSM BTW We got drunk several times together Chip is a outstanding NCO
I remember living in Ft Benning, GA at Faith Middle School 6th and 7th grade 2010-2012 watching those guys jump from the towers and planes with the smoke
The ones straight out of basic don't fail its always the people (that includes all branches) that are already years in and have been in garrison that fail because they don't prepare themselves. It's a lot of running, and endurance overall. Class of August 2003.
@LiquidChump You have to complete basic training first before airborne school. When enlisting, you can request to have airborne school added in your contract.
Man it's been ages, should have said most don't have their Med records filled out right and 100's are weeded out right before you even start. We started with about 1200 graduated 245. Cardiac hill was murder, so we did it three times, Yeha buddy.
actually im in the army national guard and requesting active duty when i graduate, train once a weekend every month pays for my gas and insurance so i cant complain and i don t get rusty
The MAJ int the video is reminiscent of John Wayne "chin straps." I know he has read AR670-1. Pt failures are a failure of the command that sponsored the recruit, or they came from AIT to airborne training and fell through the cracks. Too bad about the towers. They were amazing. I wanted more just like I wanted more repelling in AirAssult training. Jump towers were the best. Now you have to pay for it at Bush gardens after retirement. However, rock on Airborne.
hey man wether you get stuck as an 11b or an 11c you will still be an infantrymen, you will still get a blue cord and you will still get a cib when you go down range, so what ever fate gives you enjoy it and have fun you will make friends that will last a life time and things your buddies will never imagine and go airborne and maybe you will pop orders to come to the 82nd and then you will truly know what it means to be a gardener good luck bud
I mean no disrespect, and I am assuming that you either are not military or were not military when you did that run. A 10 minute mile run is considered absolutely pathetic. I would give you 3-6 months to fix yourself, then remove you from my flight, and the Air Force if no one else wants you. Also, while it may have been an error, you said "a mile" and the test is 2 miles - the Army default.
The Gut Check is real. You find out in Week 1 if you want it bad enough! After that, you just have to make sure you want it more then the next guy every day.
Yep, I sprained my neck on the LAST day of ground week. I was given two options, quite and go to my unit or be recycled and do ground week all over again. I recycled and made it through and got my wings in the next class.
Also I had a girlfriend I would call at the end of the day, and that pissed people off to the extreme! My roommates claimed that I was waking them up coming back in, which I get. The only problem was that on the days I didn't call, the stayed up until 8 or so (I called close to right after dismissal). There's no doubt some of those guys were ultra pissed I had a girlfriend, which I understand. At the same time I had fun in college, and I'm proud of my wings, so I felt It was worth it. The school sharpened by basic military skills and toughened me up some. Yes everyone says its "easy." Im sure for enlisted fresh out of basic it is a cakewalk. But if you're an ROTC cadet who writes papers all week and parties on the weekends, it may be a struggle (it was for me lol). I got to go to Airborne due to my grades. Grades don't translate to practical skills though. That takes training and experience, which I had to catch up with fast.
just for females. This is only a test to enter the course. trust me they would not even be sent to the school if they could not pass their respective services pt test which usually require up to and above 40 pushups for females. Airforce candidates actually go to a 6 week pre ranger school which basically sets you up for success because its an expensive school to go to for the military
It’s a miserable 3 weeks as long as you don’t fk-up and the same pace as Basic, but much harder! Benning handles all Jump Training for the Military including SEALS, DELTA & MARSOC…

I earned my wings back in 07. Airborne school was by far the best school I completed in the Army. 2/505th PIR Panthers 82nd Airborne.
Ranger school had the best pancakes.
Blueberry 5th RTB
Blueberry pancakes in mountain phase!
Florida french toast > mountains pancakes
Did they have buckwheat ?
Makes me want to go 😂
I gave a parachute demo at 7 yesterday old to a new class of soldiers getting ready to train here. My commanding officer was Lt.Col Tate., US Army. He admonished them with this, "so easy a little kid can do it!".

NSW has parachute and rappel training in San Diego now.
Yea man I had like 3 marine recon in my platoon at airborne..cool cats.
SEAL not Seal.
Thanks for the video. My son is in the Army. When he completes AIT he will be headed to Airborne training then off to RASP. I think he has both the mental and physical toughness. I was there June 1993. It wasnt as easy as this looks. Proud to be Airborne Hoorah
If you can't do 42 push ups, please just don't join in the first place.
in 2 minutes
StillersFan33 basic combat training
I was about a 150 on first test there 254 on last there.
More like if you don't want to be here, don't be here.
What happens if you can do 65+ but you get sick before Airborne and because you're getting 3-4 hours of sleep a night, you can only do 40?
My skin hurts
remember to always slap ass for motivation. 1:59
Also, the 34-foot towers were designed because Army shrinks discovered if you had a hidden fear of heights it would manifest at that height; something about the attitude to the ground and the view from that height. i cant wait here i come 11X Airborne!!!! August 13 baby HOOAHH
How is it?
How was/is your army career, dude?
Graduated Airborne School in 91. Man this brings back memories.
" the ol black leather kind , shined to perfection nightly :)
and i don't remember a board for our hands while doing push ups in the pit lol.
in fact we wore just reg BDU uniforms not pt gear.
my secret weapon was i had just come from el paso "ft.bliss and was used to the high altitude, the air was soooo thick with oxygen at ft. benning in comparison i could run forever.
ahhhh those were the days of my youth.
***** I came two years after you in 1988. We wore BDU's as well.
MrMentalflossed not really , tennis shoes were introduced in the military around the 80s
Same here Gentlemen.. 1990, HOOAH..!!
I did Airborne at Benning in September/October of 2006. Yeah, PT was in BDU's, but we [did] have running shoes, and to don't remember any boards or other accommodations for the PT test.

My favorite school I ever attended. I'd go back and do it again!
Yes that and Air Assault school
Went through in 1968, it’s changed so much. One thing we ran PT in our uniforms and boots. Never understood why they changed to running shoes when you wear boots in combat.
too many injuries

Wayne Wood you're a disgrace for failing lmao.
Still perfect form, just different amount. 41 club is the meme
I’m here because Don Shipley’s stories;)🇺🇸👍
Just did 42 push ups in under 2 minutes, sweet now i have to work on my sit ups, i've got 2 years though.
petersrg2 Are you airborne now?
Make sure they aren't 41 club pushups :)
Soooooo how did it go? Lol
Howd you do
do you have to do both the sit ups and push ups in 2 minutes? or is it 2 minutes for each one?
2 minutes each
Debbie Sanon thank you.
That major has a Ranger Scroll. We Rangers are allowed to put attitude into our beret. You would know that if you served with the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Terd Ferguson I really doubt you are a Ranger

D B only one pullup? they are really lowering the requirements, pull ups used to be part of the apft and you did pull ups untill you couldn't anymore
graduated March 15th 2006 time flys! we shined our boots every day and ran in pressed BDUS! yes I'm old
hahaha... I'm trying to get a Ranger contract right now for the regiment but never forget the old guys like you who made it possible for the rest of us young bucks lol so thank you sir! lead the way
I had a friend who made it all the way through basic and jump school at Ft. Benning, GA. back in the eighties. He was surprised to see some West Point Cadets taking the course too.
The 250 foot tower is no longer in use, my sergeant airborne told us that they won't be using them anymore due to budget cuts. It costs to maintain it
What the heck no big tower man I'm glad I went to Airborne school when they had all the goodies
12 years ago and we still do the same thing today , I’m going thru the course right now
hes from 10 moutnain division. maybe he never deployed with an airborne unit, rather 10 mtn. but he probably spent plenty of time in garrison in one so i guarantee he's a master parachutist
Because you could be in the 82nd and still be transferred to the 10th, 101st etc Doesn't mean you can't be a master parachutists
Ah no I served with him in FT Campbell and in Berlin he was my team leader he's infantry all the way he has multiple deployments to include the 75th and SSM BTW We got drunk several times together Chip is a outstanding NCO
I know this is an old video but can anyone here tell me if the training has changed recently? I’m going to Airborne School sometime in 2020
Not much. I know covid has changed alot of it. Make sure you can do perfect push-ups. Dont be an idiot. Its easy.
I remembered my class back in 98'..
I really loved Airborne School!
that 34 foot tower was the scariest part in my opinion
Our class was huge. I didn’t have to do that. I heard it was more dangerous than actual jump so I was glad.
I swear to God. Idk why I was more scared to jump off that than the plane. I think cuz I was closer to the ground maybe
what's with the sneakers when i went through we wore boots and bdus for pt!
Since at least 1987 (when I went through). Too many feet related injuries - there's no cushion in those boots.
Shin splints
0:57 is that how they wear it now?
I remember living in Ft Benning, GA at Faith Middle School 6th and 7th grade 2010-2012 watching those guys jump from the towers and planes with the smoke
Airborne Airborne, all the way..!
The ones straight out of basic don't fail its always the people (that includes all branches) that are already years in and have been in garrison that fail because they don't prepare themselves. It's a lot of running, and endurance overall. Class of August 2003.
@TheAirborne076 but don't they decide which one you should go either 11c indirect fire or 11b infantrymen?
@LiquidChump You have to complete basic training first before airborne school. When enlisting, you can request to have airborne school added in your contract.
In Canada we have to do: 7 Chin Ups, 33 Sit Ups , and a mile run under 7.30min.
That's the minimum though, Very Competitive.
Stupid question but when he said 2 min to do push ups and sit ups is it 2 min for all together or separate
Hold up....I know people weren't walking?! You AIRBORNE SHUFFLE everywhere, HOOAH!
Thank you
Like anything in life, it's easy, if you're mentally and physically prepared, hard, if you're not! '69, AIRBORNE, ALL THE WAY!👍👍
So...do you have to go through Army training before going through Airborne Training.
What does the "T" in T-10 and T-11 mean? I guess its short for Type.
I remember finding saw dust in a old rolled up pair of socks in the back of my sock drawer like 10 years later.
Graduated May 22 173d airborne sky soldier
i’m thinking about doing airborne school, do you have to jump out of planes after completing airborne school?
Congratulations!
MandaloreTheGreat
There is two schools, right?
Airborne School 3 weeks, and air assault School.
is the pushups and situps 2minutes all together? or is it 2 minutes for pushups and 2 minutes for situps?
Over 13,000 paratroopers landed behind enemy lines the night before D-Day. The ones who made the greatest impact, had faulty parachutes.
Man it's been ages, should have said most don't have their Med records filled out right and 100's are weeded out right before you even start. We started with about 1200 graduated 245. Cardiac hill was murder, so we did it three times, Yeha buddy.
So if you join the army, and you are already in it, how do you go into airborne school?
You get weekends off in airborne?
Yeah, unless you get yourself into trouble going downrange with hookers, booze and dope.
How do you make it pass BCT and AIT and not be able to pass the PT test
actually im in the army national guard and requesting active duty when i graduate, train once a weekend every month pays for my gas and insurance so i cant complain and i don t get rusty
That Major's beret was cheweeeeed up!
why are there different PT standards for males abdominal females? What is the purpose of the test if two different standards
'
Sept-Oct '81 Now when did they start doing PT in sweat pants and sneakers? What the heck happened to my Airborne school? And no zero week?
89B airborne in my contract can't wait!!! Hooah!!
You still alive
The MAJ int the video is reminiscent of John Wayne "chin straps." I know he has read AR670-1. However, rock on Airborne.
Our youngest sons is doing week 1 now. He's excited.
class 42-85
Great experience, good challenge, and hot Georgia July 36 years ago!
Lol, 34 years for me, I went thru Ranger School two years later. Damn, where did the years go?
hey anyone seeing this please tell me the official asvab and physical scores to be airborne
Someone needs to teach the good major how to properly wear a beret
hey man wether you get stuck as an 11b or an 11c you will still be an infantrymen, you will still get a blue cord and you will still get a cib when you go down range, so what ever fate gives you enjoy it and have fun you will make friends that will last a life time and things your buddies will never imagine and go airborne and maybe you will pop orders to come to the 82nd and then you will truly know what it means to be a gardener good luck bud
i loled at 3:27
Do they still use 300 foot towers?
Well they have always been 250 foot towers :)
that dudes beret at 0:55 is the exact opposite of how its supposed to be....what happened to parallel to the marching deck?????
should i be a 11b infantrymen or ranger??
Doing this now. Just knocked out our first day today =D HOOAH. Airborne!
me too but not till June 2, 2013 though for me. Can't wait. 11 series FTW!
why is tha requirment for tha pt test so easy???
There is two schools, right????
The Airborne School 3 weeks, and the air assault school.
My airborne brothers and sisters.....forever....sign me a retired Canadian Army Parachute Rigger officer.....!
So you go through basic training, than airborne training, and after that you're jumping out of planes?
holy crap that beret is jacked up
*I’d be down, but that tower tho is chilling*
I mean no disrespect, and I am assuming that you either are not military or were not military when you did that run. A 10 minute mile run is considered absolutely pathetic. I would give you 3-6 months to fix yourself, then remove you from my flight, and the Air Force if no one else wants you.

I REALLY WANT TO BE PART OF 11B infantrymen
haha i put this up right before they answered the question however whats the asvab score
July 81 i graduated! B Battery 1/319 82nd ABN
Major needs to get down & push out 100 for wearing that beret like a girl scout !
I think everyone that’s were about to go to Airborne school watched this video and the 2 other parts. I know I did lol
I had four weeks, got to the jump school I week early
Rasp had pretty good eggs and taters
+SkylightBlast Vapor (Skylight Blast) If you pass Rasp you gain entry into the 75th Ranger Regiment
They called it RIP when I went through it. The RI's got you right after Jump School, raising hell with you.
Back in my day youngin it was rip.
NOTHING LIKE THE TRAINING I WENT THROUGH IN 1968. I GUESS THEY JUST WANTED TO GET US THROUGH SO WE COULD CROSS THE POND.
The Gut Check is real. You find out in Week 1 if you want it bad enough!

wow man thats crazy and congratulations :D haha
They lowered the standards lol !
Mark Korvin Slugocki how is that?
I got the chance to go to Fort Benning during High School JROTC and jump out the 34ft tower :D
18x September 25th (training starts october 1st)...FINALLY
@hoyfootball37 It's 2 minutes per.
Sir at :55, that is not how you wear a beret.
Airborne school is fun but hurts haha id do it again
your 47 and in 2nd batt? you must be a pt GOD
just for females.
