If you look around you will find glass dispensers that have a tap on the end. Just make sure you get one that is a little thick. the thinner ones are too fragile.
A bit of advice for those viewing this: this video is the first I saw and used to make my first coldbrew batch. The coarser you grind your coffee, the better. The finer the grind, the thinner the coffee. You want coarse (large) grinds, so the water absorbs more of the coffee as possible. I have an electric burr grinder, and I set it to the coarsest possible setting (opposite of finest), and the coldbrew comes out great! Also, you want to make sure you use filtered or bottled water. If your tap water has noticeable chlorine in it, it's going to come out in your coldbrew and ruin it. Also, 24 hours steeping time is best, especially if you let it steep in the fridge IF you don't squeeze the bag like he did. Squeezing the bag is kind of a bad thing.
Another thing, depending on the type of coffee beans you use; if you use a lighter roast bean, you'll see some of the oils solidify after 2 or 3 days and rise to the top. It looks like tiny little white worms that float to the top after a few days in the fridge. You want another filtering step besides the cloth he recommends here. I use Toddy filters, which are thick white wooly disks that filter out a lot of the oils and fats that solidify later. Thanks to the Protein Chef for this video, though. I've been enjoying my own coldbrew ever since!
I heat a "cup" of my cold brew for a cup of hot coffee. I also dilute 50-50 with water for that cup of hot coffee. I am in the experimental/novice stage, but am committed to cold brew. AND What a nice presentation !!! Thank you !!!
James Friedman my question was about heating it, thanks for the info. I found a cold brew pitcher with filter, do like the coffee more. Actually I'm drinking less but doing it with more style and pleasure.
I now use the cookie jar that is used in the video - I don't use any nut bag or any other filter - the grounds go right into the water. When done, I have a jar that fits into the cookie jar and I "scoop" out the coffee - I have 4 800ml glass bottles into which I pour the coffee. I use a funnel with a tea strainer on top. It takes two "scoops" per 800 ml bottle. Then, for the last bottle, I don't use the jar scoop - I just pour right from the cookie jar into the tea strainer sitting atop the funnel sitting atop the 800 ml bottle. For me this works wonderfully well. Quick and easy - and no spillage at all. The 800 ml bottles are the glass bottles in which Voss sells drinking water - they are perfect right cylinders so the take up little real-estate in the refrigerator. I now dilute the coffee 1/3 water, 2/3 coffee. The brewing is done at room temperature. I have two sets of four bottles so I can have as many as 8 bottles in the fridge at one time. When I open the fourth bottle then I make another batch...brew 24 hours, bottle and put in fridge. Rotate stock. Oh, I also stir the brewing coffee every so often, as the grounds will settle. Don't know if that makes any difference at all. Honestly, I don't know if this is a good method or not - except that it works wonderfully well for me. I tried other methods of coffee brewing, like french press, and other methods of cold brewing - but this "crude but effective" method is perfect for me. If my description is not clear I can post some photos - and please feel free to ask questions if you have any...Oh, and I also drink the coffee cold right from the refrigerator - no more heating the coffee at all.
@@jwf3148what a great way to reuse Voss water bottles! I also either dilute my concentrated coffee with hot water from Keurig (gotta use the machine somehow, lol) or heat up in microwave. Heating it up does not compromise flavor at all (unlike reheated hot brewed coffee).
I have found that the best (and easiest) coffee to use is Costco's Kirkland 100% Colombian pre-ground coffee. We've taste-tested it against whole beans (dark roast) and Kirklands is the best. It's a bargain too at a 3 pound can for $9.99. $3.33/pound for coffee this good is a steal! I measure out 1 cup of Kirkland coffee and put it in a large Melitta drip coffee (the size that uses the #6 paper filters). I fill it to the top with cold tap water, give it a stir and let it sit for 24 hours. I make it early in the morning so that it will be ready the next day early in the morning. Using a large hand held filter, I, give the brew another stir and filter it through a #6 paper filter. Discard the grounds in the trash or use it for compost. This makes enough cold brew coffee to last us three days, storing the pre-brewed coffee in the refrigerator. We like to serve our cold brewed coffee hot! We measure our 2/3rd's of a cup in a cappuccino mug. We use the Bodum double walled Parvina cups. Place the mug in the microwave and heat it for 1 1/2 minutes. While the cold brew coffee is heating, we foam milk in our Nespresso Aeroccino. When the milk foam is ready, we add it to the microwaved coffee and sprinkle some cinnamon on top and enjoy the perfect cold brew hot cappuccino....ever. This sounds like a lot of steps and work but when you consider that you're making enough coffee to last three days and you're getting the best cappuccino you ever tasted, it's a great deal!!! Try it, you'll like it.

I've been experimenting with my own cold brew at home for a while now. I prefer to make concentrated cold brew steeping for 20-24 hrs. I use flavored coffee beans and the store's grinder (on course grind) right before making it. This video was helpful for one step... nut milk bag! I used to strain using metal strainer followed by paper filter and it just took too long and messy. The nut milk bag is a solid game changer!
Hell yeah, I've been meaning to do that too! I hate cranking it! I assume you just use a nut driver bit with it? Up until I read your comment, I've been thinking to get 2 or 3 stainless steel nuts and weld or epoxy a spare 1/4" bit onto the top nut. But now that I've read your comment a nut driver bit would probably be easiest.
I love how people get so annoyed with his voice. It’s free content. No ones forcing you to watch and most of his recipes he puts the ingredients and directions in the description.
I completely agree with adding almond milk over cow milk. Almond milk is a nut, so it complements the coffee better. If you want it a little "thicker" like with heavy cream add a bit of arrowroot. Its flavorless and will give the almond milk a little body.

I love how you do your homework and talk about nutritional content, other methods, ratios, etc. You now have me as a loyal subscriber ☺️. Time to binge watch the other episodes lol
Good recipe as far as the ratio, measurements and equipment. Brewing on a countertop away from the sunlight or in a cupboard is my preferred method. But no matter which cold brew recipe I have followed over the years, I have discovered my own little tip early on. No matter what, to get the best and smoothest flavor, you have to double strain. After removing the nut milk bag, use a mesh strainer and line it with a paper coffee filter into your serving pitcher. It takes an annoying amount of time BUT your patience will be rewarded lol. The best tasting cold brew coffee ever. I never use sweetener or milk in mine because this tip makes delicious on its own. Cheers
I've been making this for years. I haven't purchased a mesh bag yet. I just use a wet coffee filter. Takes a few minutes longer to filter but one less thing to buy.
AWESOME!!! Made this last summer for the first time ... PERFECT!! this is my go to recipe. Always keep some in the fridge for evening cocktail recipes too!
This recipe uses a 1::16 ratio so I guess it's not meant to be diluted in water. Most cold-brew recipes I read are to make a coffee concentrate that is meant to be diluted in water (usually half and half). After checking many cold-brew concentrate recipes, I've realized that there's isn't a consensus on the ratio - Jamie Oliver uses a 1:8 ratio, but other people use 1:6, 1:4 or even 1:3. I have a batch brewing in the fridge right now and I used a 1:8 ratio. I like my coffee not too strong so I'll probably water it down a lot
Hi, Protein Chef, I came to your channel while searching for cold coffee brew. I am surprised you only have 200k subscribers. You should have over 1M for the following reasons. You are attractive, articulate, and you keep your videos simple and easy to understand. BTW, any chance you plan to do more cold coffee brew videos about all the extras you discuss at the end?
Hey Vivek! Thank you for the kind words. I will definitely be doing more videos! There should be an update soon (one with hopefully better presentation)!!!
Some stores that offer bags you can fill yourself they typically will have a commercial grinder on site. May not work for everyone but it's another option if you want to skip buying a grinder. The bonus is you can mix multiple flavors and levels of roasts without buying more than one bag.
The voice comes from a lot of uploaders who use the television show approach I'm guessing? Regardless it's good information which is why I love RUclips.
This is a much more convenient way to make cold brew than the method of brewing it and then filtering it out afterward which seems to be the more common method. Thanks!
Even HE commented that this video is hard for him to watch due to how he talks in it. So, I guess we're all just an army of trolls, even him to himself. Lol
bud, I would encourage you to try roasting your own coffee, it is not that expensive (try going to sweet Marias website) I bought my hot air roaster for around a hundred and fifty usd, and the quality of fresh roast far surpasses anything bought at a local grocery I've found here. if you think hole bean makes a difference, wait till you try fresh roasted.
+ibkristykat most people don't recormend squeezing the filter bag as your taking it out. so maybe that's where hes getting extra strength/ bitterness/acidity from. Where as if you don't strain it you would leave it for 24+ hours.
Quick because you could just wake up and scoop up coffee if it's already made. Do it a few hours before you sleep on your day off and then wake up to coffee that you got for the next week.
"everything in moderation" was my grandmother's favorite thing to say 🙂 even when I would do stuff as a kid like get caught smoking weed this lady born in the 20s had the wisdom to tell me "anything in moderation is ok" at the height of the Regan war on drugs. It's a truly wise outlook because it actually takes more self discipline to do things in moderation than avoid them, and the added bonus of perspective about a thing is gained when you don't avoid it and instead experience it and understand it. R.I.P Gramma. When she had cancer and couldn't eat our state didn't have medical marijuana at the time and me and my brother got a vaporizer and she vaped cannabis with us for the first time in her 80s to get the munchies and settle her stomach.
You are adorable and I love the ease of this - it should always be about the coffee being good as the end result. I LOOOVE coffee, but cannot stand coffee snobs.
Love cold brew coffee! it's got less caffeine and more antioxidants+ minerals too. Sometimes I even warm it up gently after and it has a sweeter flavour than hot brewed coffee.
Awesome coffee video. This is a great way to make coffee. It saves energy, tastes great and in the warm weather doesn't add heat to your home. Also I love to use flavored Whey powder for creamer.
But you CAN get the same consistency with a blade grinder or "spice mill" if you just pulse instead of holding down the button. Not downing your method, just letting people know. Another great video, man!
Even very expensive burr grinders have issues with getting consistent grinds, so the blades are just not an option for anyone interested in good coffee. The blade grinders will also burn your coffee beans...
Just buy good quality Arabica variety coffee that has been well washed with clean water and well picked(only mature beans selected ) and you wont need to do cold brew coffee. Well selected beans and well washed coffee wont be bitter and they will have low acidity. Arabica= sweetest coffee type
If you want a faster grinding process, take off the nut on the top of the grinder (which exposed the axle got the grinder) and just attach a drill. It's 10x faster
Actually, he does talk like a normal person in his most recent vids. This voice I see fake, and obnoxious because he's forcing it and no one enjoys it.
Best filter bags I have used were in brewing some coffee stout. We used the knee to toe portion of some L'eggs (Queen sized) to hold the ground coffee and 1/2 gallon mason jars to make the coffee in. And sanitize EVERYTHING with StarSan.

Thank you! I've always wanted to know how this is done!
You want the grind coarse if you are wondering!
I really liked your video. Good stuff mate 👍
You can also freeze some in cube trays for icy cold coffee!
Thanks for the video. I like your voice. It's strange but it makes it your videos unique. Keep it up man. The idea of the bag was really cool.
6:24 excedra?

DAMAGE INC. You just got super good information on how to make a great coldbrew, why u gotta be so negative

There should be an update soon (one with hopefully better presentation)!!!
going to do this instead of buying cold brew from the store all the time
Some stores that offer bags you can fill yourself they typically will have a commercial grinder on site.
Thanks!
It's Excedrin (ex-SED-rin), but it's etcetera (et-SEH-ter-ah). thank you.
That always drives me crazy too and makes me wonder what people were doing during that part of English class.
dry finished
coffee -- amount
28.3g --> 1 pt (16 oz)
56.7g --> 1 qt (32 oz)
113.5g --> ½ gal (64 oz)
227g --> 1 gal (128 oz)
454g --> 2 gal (256 oz)
Adjust to fit your taste.
It's a great recipe. Why ya'll trolls gotta dis him for his voice? Not cool.
Even HE commented that this video is hard for him to watch due to how he talks in it. So, I guess we're all just an army of trolls, even him to himself. Lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Brewed in the fridge for a few days is amazing
bud, I would encourage you to try roasting your own coffee, it is not that expensive (try going to sweet Marias website) I bought my hot air roaster for around a hundred and fifty usd, and the quality of fresh roast far surpasses anything bought at a local grocery I've found here. if you think hole bean makes a difference, wait till you try fresh roasted.
Awesome advice, I'll definitely look into this!!! Thank you
I have a coffee shop nearby that roasts their own coffee and I think is willing to sell. Leave it to the pros I guess
thanks for the useful video. Cold Brew all summer yeah!
Going to have to try this...Thanks for the video...☺👍☕.....
Thanks for this. It was very helpful and way more straight forward that I thought it would be.
"Its quick"... "Brew time: 16hrs".
Haha! Well, to get to the point of brewing is quick!
+Michaelsp9 most cold brews take 24-48 hours depending on the method and if you use *fresh medium ground coffee*. So relatively, 16 hrs. is quick lol
+ibkristykat most people don't recormend squeezing the filter bag as your taking it out. so maybe that's where hes getting extra strength/ bitterness/acidity from. Where as if you don't strain it you would leave it for 24+ hours.
Lewis Munting I was literally thinking that as he was squeezing the bag 😅😂
When she had cancer and couldn't eat our state didn't have medical marijuana at the time and me and my brother got a vaporizer and she vaped cannabis with us for the first time in her 80s to get the munchies and settle her stomach.
RIP to your Grandmother! Thank you for sharing that!
Big Pharma wanted people to stay sick or get into chemotherapy. Competition. God gave us cannibua... cannibus
why does he sound like an infomercial person on 0.5x speed
Voice is perfect. 10/10. Would talk on the phone with him at 3am
Less acid not less caffeine !
This guy is cool. Like a Keanu Reeves on steroids xD
ChocolatePoop1301 i was thinking the same way xD
Huh? He barely looks like he has a gym membership lol
I love the way he explains in points
OMGosh you are amazing, love the energy, smile and leadership
Thanks for the pointers. Using the filter bag would makes this a much easier process. Ordered a filter and a glass jar like yours!
Awesome coffee video. This is a great way to make coffee. It saves energy, tastes great and in the warm weather doesn't add heat to your home. Also I love to use flavored Whey powder for creamer.
Love your energy and love the recipe. I purchased a hario cold brew system myself and love it. Once you go cold brew, you don't go back. haha!
Can you give me some resources of where you're getting your facts?
Just buy good quality Arabica variety coffee that has been well washed with clean water and well picked(only mature beans selected ) and you wont need to do cold brew coffee. Well selected beans and well washed coffee wont be bitter and they will have low acidity. Arabica= sweetest coffee type
I think this is the first recipe I've seen of yours that doesn't have protein :)
add a bit of almond milk then it'll have protein :)
His presentation is all the protein you need.
tq bro. just brewed my first 2 cups ratio based on ur video. wow! taste so good even my coffee beans are ageing >1month
I'm definitely going to try this recipe. Thanks a ton!
If you want a faster grinding process, take off the nut on the top of the grinder (which exposed the axle got the grinder) and just attach a drill. It's 10x faster
So cute! You should re-do this with your shirt off.
Trying to learn how to do this myself, and this is the best video I've found. Thanks!
I wish this guy would just talk to us in his normal conversational voice instead of this yuck yuck infomercial voice.
Actually, he does talk like a normal person in his most recent vids. This voice I see fake, and obnoxious because he's forcing it and no one enjoys it.
@@brianguardiola9173 why is he doing this fake voice here. Omg i want to blow my brains out.
Neil Yaremchuk Aw you’ll be okay!
Best filter bags I have used were in brewing some coffee stout. We used the knee to toe portion of some L'eggs (Queen sized) to hold the ground coffee and 1/2 gallon mason jars to make the coffee in. And sanitize EVERYTHING with StarSan.
I feel like i'm watching this in Disney Channel
Very good. Cold Brew coffee from Brazil. God bless you.
Well, I'll find out how this goes in 15 hours.
simple & awesome. thank you!
Why tf does he talk like that
kcslva22 hipster accent
Calm down bitch
Thanks! You make me smile! Appreciate your articulate and informational tutorial.
flavER, filtER, quickER, freshER lol
He was supposed to be on General Hospital but needs more caffeine.
Wow I really enjoyed those facts you gave at the beginning
