You know they are Australian when the rest of the world is getting cozy with hot drinks they are teaching us to make cold brew. 😆
In from latam and we are roasting too hahahaha
Cold brew is trending and is the most popular in the US
I tried a variation on this method, which is brilliant! Don't get me wrong. I use this style all the time, but I began to think about how to maximize the caffeine content, so I roughly ground a top notch coffee bean, pleced the grind in a tall mason jar or equivalent and then added near boiling water to the 3/4 mark. I then capped it off. A vacuum formed, which sealed it. After a week I strained off the coffee. WOW!!!! What a blast!!! Woo hoo. Felt like when I used to do a few lines, which I don't anymore. I gave that up 20 years ago, but this reminded me of it!!! To maximize the caffeine content you need to steep the grounds in hot water.
Most badass comment I ever read. Cheers mate
thankyou for sharing, I usually used 1:10 for my cold brew and I thought its for ready to drink hahaa.. well I will try the ratio that you suggest.. and the type roasting is giving me more knowledge
Usually I just use a water bottle, I mix the grinded coffee and the water creating an infusion leave it on the fridge for 12 hs then pass it through a paper filter
How is the concentrate more expensive if youre gonna dilute it to the same ratio as the ready to drink?
Beautiful 👏👍
I'm going to grab 80g single origin out of the freezer, my 1ltr Hario, and some bottled water. Leave it overnight, then whack it through the aeropress to get a super clean end product ☕️👌
Cheers guys.
i think you forgot this important detail : some part of water will get absorbed to the coffee ground when you filter it as finished product. for example, you put 750ml of water with 1:15 ratio, the finished product is NOT 750ml. this small detail is important in packaging especially when you want to sell cold brew in a bottle. you would want to count the weight with exact number.
I've definitely found that the ratio that I use in my French press for cold brew is 1:7. I also mostly use dark roasts but I get a free lb of coffee from Starbucks since I'm a barista there and I'm working my way from darkest to lightest
What number grind setting on Baratza Encore do you recommend for cold brew. Thanks.
Interesting that you suggest light or medium roast. Thats my everyday roast choice. But since cold brew kills the acidity I like dark roast for cold brew as it lets in more of the dark roast coffee flavour.
I hate the ACIDITY.
@@TUHANbukanorangARAB I like it in hot but not in the cold as I generally add some cold milk or vanilla ice cream or tonic water to my cold brew.
hi im curious, some people let the coffee brew overnight in the fridge instead of in room temprature. i'm confused on this part. could u kindly explain to me which is actually the best way to do it?
Cold brew method is also a good way to get rid of old whole bean coffee
the cutaway is very funny 😂
Where can I get that hoodie you were wearing at the beginning of the video?
"Don't forget to put the plug in." - Past Experience
What size do you recomend for te barataza encoré??
I'd never heard of a drip cold brew method, interesting. I usually buy dark roasted beans, have my barista grind them for French press, and soak them for around 22 hours in the fridge. I just use a regular bowl with a lid; then when it's ready, I filter it all with regular paper towels. Oh, and I make it at a one to four ratio, pretty strong.
I've been thinking of upping my game and buying specific equipment, but I don't think that Toddy will fit in my fridge.
I’ve been loving the OXO compact cold brewer, comes with a mesh filter so you don’t need to filter it any extra
I've been using the Hario Mizudashi, fits really well in my fridge. They also have different sizes/shapes to choose from.
If it’s working why upgrade. I just use a jug that fits in the fridge and kitchen paper towels in a sieve.
Don't spend the extra money on equipment. Use on good coffee and keep making the same way. This method makes the best coldbrew anyway.
cold brew is perfect. chocolate notes with zero sugar
Any idea on how jot or ultra thick cold brew is made
just a warning to those that make concentrate. um make SURE you dilute it or you will be making multiple trips to the bathroom...
Ah yes, nothing ruins my day quite like taking a sip of delicious cold brew only to taste the disappointment of overly acidic sour iced coffee with an even worse aftertaste.

It packed a real, tasty punch.
how long was it brewed for?
why is Central American coffee not good for cold brew? Is it better to have the fruit on the bean??
Great video! In the coffee shop I'm working, we have Yama drip so we prepare Kyoto. But the recipe they use is 206gr coffee per 3 liters 😱 I don't understand that ratio 🥺
What's not to understand with that ratio? He says for a drinkable cold brew he uses a 1:15 ratio?
That's exactly what they're telling you to do with that brewer?
For every 15 grams of water they use 1 gram of water 3000ml ÷ 206gr = a ratio of 1:14.56
it means in the coffe shop youre working they are using a almost 1:15 ratio. 206 gr/3000 ml
If my math serves me correct, 206g to 3 litres of water works out to 1 to 14.56 so it's close enough to the 1 part to 15 ratio in Nathan's video.
If you havent understood it three times already I think that comes out to a ratio of about 1:15
What number grind setting is that for the Baratza grinder for coarse grind? I normally do pour over coffee with the grinder setting at 20 for the Encore Baratza, what number should it be set at for cold brew?
I’d like to know this as well
@@jons3808 Did some research, and you set it to 30 on the Baratza grinder for cold brew
@@SK1MD Thank you for sharing your findings!
I was sharing this video with my friends with title "The Ultimate Guide to Cold Brew" till I realised it's already titled as that haha
🎉😮🎉😮🎉 ahhh 😫😯😫 yeah 💯 awesome 💯...
I found splitting down the middle on ratio. 1:5 just seemed too much loss. When brewing 1:8 the finished product gave an ideal flavor when poured over ice filled glass and allowing melting slightly provided a nice color, a strong coffee flavor and the tasting notes pleasingly present when drank black.
Are you using dark roast?? I am also thinking about loss,,, but it seems there is no effective solution for it I guess. thanks in advance for your answer. Have a nice day
Why does filtered water matter?
Saucepin
I've been drinking this "concentrate" black... I added milk with 1:1... And it became watered (or should I say milked :D) down mess. It wasn't that good.
I’m here from Spanian ITS ALL EATS. give him a shout brot
I actually like a 1:3 ratio and cut it with cream and water. 1:5 seems too weak to me, especially if we're diluting it.
Coldbrew over condensed milk and ice cubes 😊
what ratio do you use?
@@Lagunaturbia well depends on how sweet you like it. Around 1:4 because when the ice melts it will thin out the taste anyways. Also add some vanilla extract to it. I put in less than a tea spoon in as it’s intense compared to natural vanilla, it’s such a nice and smooth flavor. Try it out :))
What does it mean in the end where you say a ratio of 1-15, then you said 1:5ratio and the end you said 1-12-15ratio ?
1:15 ratio is for drinking it straight and 1:5 if you will use milk
hi what do you mean of 15 parts of water? is it 15 cups?
15 grams of water per 1 gram of coffee
Wait, you’re telling me it’s summer somewhere???
I keep hearing 5 parts / 1 part. exactly how much CUPS of water/coffee
i will need?
Don't measure coffee in cups especially on youtube with a global audience. Cups and spoons don't give repeatable results.
Water is measured in grams or milliliters. it is convenient because one milliliter weighs one gram. So you can weigh your water on the same scale you weigh your coffee.
When we talk about ratios we can use the same unit. 1:15 ratio would be one gram of coffee to 15 grams (same as milliliters) of water.
I usually use 80 grams of coffee to 1.2 liters of water. That will yield about 1 liter of cold brew.
Just give it in grams of coffee per liter of water
No other value is sufficient
Or you could like use your primary school- level math knowledge 😬
You want to use 500ml or water let's say? Use 15 times less than that ground coffee
what a surprise, you use your hair and beard that way... thats original and unexpected
