You need to use coarse grounds so that the coffee extracts slower since the brew time is between 12-20 hours long. Finer grounds will extract quicker and be more acidic.
Thank you so much for that info! I sometimes use course and sometimes medium. I like when it’s a very rich bold flavor that the medium grounds give. I don’t notice the acidity level going up much. I still really enjoy it!!
You’re welcome!! I like to try and use things I have before buying new stuff! And I think others feel the same! I have another one I am working on so no matter what type of brewer you have, you can make cold brew! Thanks for watching and commenting to let me know you liked it!!
I’d do the same if you have one! Keeps your supplies minimal knowing you can have the best of both worlds with the one Device!! Thanks for your comment and watching my video. I need to make a new coffee video. It’s been too long!
So the coarseness can be a variety depending on what method you use. If you have a very fine mesh system you can use just about any size ground, if you're very picky about any residue in your coffee go with a medium grind so on a scale 1-10 do 5. If you can do a test and see the size of the ground and think will this fit through my mesh system I'm using.. then you'll be good. For Coffee ratio a good Concentrate is 1:4, 1 part coffee, 4 parts water. So like 1 cup coffee, 4 cups water, or 1 ounce, 4 ounces. I hope this helps!! It's best to make it strong and then you can always add ice, water or milk to dilute it!
Yes, that will make It even stronger. You can make it more concentrate and always add water if it’s “too strong” The Cold brew method makes the brew so smooth that the coffee feels stronger in general. The caffeine content is higher with this method as well!
@@TheresaCampbell I tried making this, but it is very weak. Starbucks Nitro cold brew is much stronger. I guess I need to return the cold brew coffee maker.
@@tscie5504 how long did you let The coffee sit? And did the grounds get fully covered with water? Because that’s how it seeps. If you like a stronger coffee I would also let it sit longer. 24-48 hours! Give that a try before you give up!
My final cup ended up with sludgy residue and coffee that had a very bad taste. I saw some grounds at the bottom. Am I doing something wrong? I bought the cold brew maker about two weeks ago.
Vithuran Bavananthan did you use a very fine grind of coffee? Sometimes that will make too much of the actual grind get into the pitcher where the water is. My suggestion is a rougher ground more like a French press grind. Was the rest of the coffee good? Just the last cup wasn’t ?
@@TheresaCampbell The rest of the coffee was great! Of my two uses its always been the last drink. Im currently using Folgers 1850 light roast ground coffee. Thanjs for the help btw 😄
Vithuran Bavananthan I think a courser grind for the coffee will help you! Also maybe if you’re leaving the grounds in for more than one day. Try removing the core after it soaks for 12-24 hours. And just cover it with the lid so the coffee doesn’t continue to brew!
Vithuran Bavananthan and thank you for asking me your questions! I’m happy to help troubleshoot the best I can! I appreciate you liking my video!!!! I have more coffee videos in my ideas list :)
Hey Cory, How long did you let it sit, my main thing to get a stronger coffee is let it sit longer. Also I’ll swirl around the coffee in the pitcher, sometimes it just needs to mix up to be a strong cup! The only time I ever had an issue with the coffee being weak is if the coffee grounds weren’t completely wet and I didn’t let it sit long enough!
@@cloryfigueroa7772 you’re welcome, please let me know if you still have issues. I think the biggest thing I run into is brew time and mixing the coffee.

Yes! If you choose to leave it on the counter then put it in the fridge. It’s good to take out the core and leave the top on. So the coffee grounds don’t keep soaking. I drink mine so fast that it usually doesn’t last longer then 24 hours after I make it. Long story short, yes! Do that!
Not a dumb question at all. I do not use instant coffee. I use a course ground coffee. It makes straining easier and less likely to have a residue left behind!! I don’t believe instant coffee would work as its job is to dissolve vs infuse into the water.
@@TheresaCampbell Absolutely! I was coffee free for like 8 years, but just feel off the wagon 😂. I'm making up for lost time now, and don't care for warm coffee.

Hello SheepDog78! I find a good ratio to be 1:5, 1 cup coffee 5 cups water. if you want a very strong coffee you can reduce the amount of water down to 1:4 and play around with your preferred taste! I hope this helps, but yes typically you do use more grounds for cold brew vs regular slow drip. The key is to play around and see what you like best! The good news is if you make your cold brew too strong you can always water it down, and then you have a concentrate!
I do 6 scoops to 48 oz water in LG mason jar, sometimes filter thru cheesecloth next day , not always, it does NOT take nearly the amount if grinds she used
@@dannypaul2583 I wonder if hers is because she's using an infuser. I know next to nothing about cold brew other than I like it. Will keep playing with the ratios til I find one that works for me.
New at this making my own thing BUT your coffee didn’t say coarse ground on bag & it didn’t look coarse ground.., 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ Not grinding my own so if the bag doesn’t specifically say “coarse grind” how do I know 🥹
Hi michelle!! So most recipes always call for a course grind… however I will use almost any type of coffee and just know that some of the very fine particles might make it through…. That’s a small risk not a big deal. I just know some people hate that! I just do an extra strain at the bottom of the cup If needed!
Most would say 24 hours is the high limit for a brew sitting at room temp. Once you let it sit out for too long (at room temp) it’s possible the bitterness of the grounds will start to seep into the cold brew. I didn’t notice this issue with mine. Also if you put yourself coffee in the fridge to brew it does slow down the speed at which it will brew. Ideal time also depends on your taste. You really can’t mess it up. You can taste it at different times to find your perfect length! I like to get the MAX out of my coffee grounds so I let it brew to a strong bold coffee, because I can use water or an almond milk to cut it:)
sorry question! i had some store bought black unsweetened from califia farms today and it was sour! but not expired. is that normal?? how does your homemade one taste? im new to coldbrew so i have no expectations 😖
That’s not good, sour isn’t usually a taste I get with cold brew. Cold brew is usually very smooth and not sour or bitter. Did you try a light roast, dark or medium? I suggest going medium roast and trying lucky jacks cold brew, or a Starbucks cold brew first. Those are really good for premise, even Costco had cans of premise Kirkland and those are good!
