  • Whether you’re in the market for a modified outlaw Lancia Aurelia for the street, a meticulously perfect Bentley 4½ Litre for your collection, or a 12-cylinder Ferrari for historic motorsport, there’s a place in Gloucestershire that can take care of it all under one figurative roof.
    Wayne Thornley and Simon Kelham-the founders of the Thornley Kelham restoration company featured in today’s film-established their business a little more than a decade ago, but their relationship with cars has been all but lifelong, and the level of workmanship they produce proves as much.
    While Simon oversees the direction and finances of the company rather than the technical elements that go into the restorations, growing up with a technically minded engineer for a father provided him early on with an appreciation for cars that’s only grown since then. As he puts it, “One of the things that keeps me going now, at my age, is that I’m learning every day.”
    Wayne also started on the path that led him here in his youth, with an apprenticeship at a restoration shop that saw him get his foot in the door by “sweeping the floors, making tea.” He stuck with it, learned as he went, and today he runs the workshop at a company that bears his name.
    Besides just turning out excellent cars, both Wayne and Simon are also keen to share the rewards of the company’s output with the younger generation that work alongside them; when a car is completed and ready to be picked up, it’s not just the two founders basking in the accomplishment and satisfaction when the customer comes to pick it up, but rather everyone who put in the hours that got it there.

    I love to see companies like this thriving. Any business with such passion, but especially car related, gets a thumbs up from me 👍

    It was a pleasure meeting Simon and Wayne at the London Concurs this year! I was so stunned by a Lancia B20GT that Thornley Kelham restored a few years back at a show in February this year that I made it the thumbnail of my Video of the event.

    The only thing that ever managed to drag me out of an insane depression at some point in my life, were vintage cars and motorcycles.
    I never had the honor to work on vintage cars, mainly because there's very few left in my country.
    But i do a pretty good job restoring soviet vintage motorcycles.
    When they say its the best therapy, they ain't lying.

    Some really nice cars here, I think their business model is pretty cool too, I am sure it is easy to go over budget on these types of builds and having one of the owners concentrate on the money end helps enormously I'm sure.

    Nothing wrong with the guy commentating the cars but hes a good at his job. But the owner story format is what made me and many others if not everyone subscribe to this channel. The owners story brings passion and excitement and a kind of feeling you dont get from other channels. The reason why you guys were the best was because you guys were different than the other channels. You guys brought more than just a quick history lesson of a car. You brought more meaning and feeling into that car and the owner. It makes it more special by having the owner in the series.

      @@rufusdavies2160 sorry I love their original format which is what made this channel so great? I made that comment before I heard of what actually happened and now I believe that it was foolish to try and "boycott" but the people who owns Petrolicious are kinda handling the situation poorly. And it hits hard on those who are members through subscription. They aren't telling the people who are subscribed to their products whats going on. Which is terrible considering the fact that the subscription they paid for is useless considering they now are making the things you got from subscription free. The subscription members I talked to were pissed. Like I said I was without knowledge when I made the comment but I still believe when they can they should definitely go back to their old format because this new top gear style format. Is not it.

      @rufusdavies2160 3 года назад +1

      @@seny4115 I hadn't realized that. Interesting actually. Wasn't the owner recently booted for having controversial ideas or something? I missed the whole story and am not a subscriber so unaware of the issues you describe. I personally thought things got worse for petrolicious when the ad content started and they also started offering the subscription service. I think the industry is still trying to work out where the money in the market is.
      Anyway. Apologies for my abrupt reply. It seems you have genuine concerns.

    I somewhat disagree, there are the guys, like myself who buy the “best” old car we can afford, the boy racer ... but there’s the money side; the supercar owner, the guy who trades in the 2 year old F-car or GT3 that he bought new and generally breaks even or makes money on it! Or, sometimes they just go out and buy the new resto.
