Conan’s take on the Israel-Palestine conflict being “really complicated” is a great example of how the prevailing pro-Israel strategy is to obfuscate the issue, to make it seem like there isn’t one clear moral position to take. There is, and it is for the Palestinian people and against the existing apartheid Israel regime.

    • @user-rc4zi2bm3o

It’s pretty easy, Palestinians were given the chance multiple times for peace, and have rejected it (Oslo accords / UN creation of the state) or decided to fight wars with their allied neighbouring states, and LOST. So, the question becomes if the Palestinians put down their weapons today there would be peace, if the Israelis lay down their weapons there would be a genocide of the Jews (read Hamas’s charter).
So when you oversimplify, you wipe out and ignore the complicated history of Israel and both peoples voice. Both sides have legitimate grievances, both deserved to be heard.

I found it illuminating how surprised they were at how easy it was for them to do everything there in relation to filming. When both sides want something to happen, it does with no complications. The complication is that Israel wants all of Palestine with no Palestinians in it, and Palestine just wants basic human decency. It should be that easy, but how do you negotiate with monsters?

Of course you do. And when Ireland foisted the Nazi banner over the capital upon Hitler’s death, and declared neutrality during our Holocaust and the fascist genocidal expansion (something for which they were praised in Germany), a period of neutrality which saw more Jewish people than existed in the whole of The Irish Republic at the time, turned into bone and ash, the Irish Republican people went on business as usual. Then you pretend as if you have any moral weight, or analogous circumstance. The Irish did not fight for us, and did not stand up for us. You are not a neutral party. You de-facto supported genocidal imperialists and you now support genocidal terrorists in fact, and that is how most of the developed world sees you. Fortunately or unfortunately.

It illuminated something especially troublesome for me about the Israeli occupation: You were both surprised at how easy it was to carry out your showbusiness, Ramy even while tragedy had just occurred. I think that is just proof that Israel doesn't want peace or a two-state solution. They want people to be able to make their movies and shows, and can do whatever is necessary to make that happen. Question. What did America do when attacked by one day of terrorist attacks on American soil? They went and occupied the nation believed to have done it. So Israel gets attacked daily by rockets from the West Bank and Gaza and Lebanon, etc. Is Israel supposed to just sit back and take it? Do I agree with every way Israel responds? No, I don’t. But I will say that the check points and policing is from a POV that the people that want them dead literally live next door. I’ve been saying for years tho that violence begets violence. Palestinians feel justified. So do Israelis. It absolutely is complicated because there are reasons a nation may occupy a territory or country, usually for national security, something which Israel historically has never been wishy washy on.

I'm just gonna spam this comment around here to balance the scales here lol. This episode rubbed me the wrong way due to both Conan and Ramy seemingly walking on eggshells to avoid calling out the Israeli state, even upon the mention of its murder of a Palestinian journalist. By no means do I expect anyone in Hollywood to make their stance on this subject clear, but it's still disappointing nonetheless. So here's a little history lesson that no one asked for but one that I will give anyway. The prime minister of apartheid South Africa Hendrick Verwoerd seemed to think Israel was an apartheid state, referring to it as such in 1961. So did a guy called Nelson Mandela, (whom I believe would probably know a thing or two about apartheid states). He literally said that his country's struggle against apartheid would remain incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians from apartheid Israel.
Apartheid is a system that entails the domination of one racial group over the other, and inhumane acts including forcible transfer, expropriation of landed property, the creation of separate reserves/ghettos, and the right to leave and return to their country. Apartheid Israel meets all of these categories. The fact that some Arabs live in Israel and not in the "occupied territories" does not negate that face. Palestinians in Gaza live in an open air prison where Israel denies most Gazans from leaving. It is a textbook example of apartheid. The very existence of the Israeli state necessitates a majority of one ethnic group/people of a certain faith, which - in turn - leads to the removal of Palestinians from their homes. This goes all the way back to Ben-Gurion (who made it abundantly clear in his writings), and is being proliferated by the current far-right Israeli government headed by fascist leadership. There's really no "two-sides"ing this conversation when the heads of state (dating back to the very first head of state in Ben-Gurion all the way to the present) have not shied away from the fact that this is a settler colonial ethno-state.

If Israel is trying to be an apartheid state, the stats show it is making a really bad attempt !
-2 million Arabs live in Israel will equal rights, freedom of religion and movement
      - Arab parties in parliament and last government ,
-over 400 working mosques in Israel .
      - Large numbers of Arabs living together with Jews in cities like Jerusalem, Tel Aviv -Jaffa, Haifa, Akko, Lod, Ramle, Beersheva
let's look at the stats regarding the Palestinian authority:
      - No Jews are citizens of Palestinian Authority
      - No working synagogues under Palestinian authority
      - Palestinians are not allowed to sell land to Jews
      - Not a single Jew lives in major cities of Nablus, Tulkarem, Qalquiya, Jericho, Bethlehem, Jenin

Saw some people spamming comments about apartheid. They clearly don't have a clue about what apartheid means. Perhaps they could answer how many Jews live in Egypt/Syria/Iran/jordan/syria/lebanon. This is the real apartheid.
If you are so sure that "Palestine, the land, has always been recognized
historically ", I hope you are able to answer a few basic questions about this land of Palestine:
    1. When was the country founded and by whom?
    2. What were its borders?
    3. What was its capital?
    4. What were its most important cities?
    5. What were the bases of its economy?
    6. What was its form of government?
    7. Can you name at least one Palestinian leader before Arafat?
    8. Has Palestine ever been recognized as a country whose existence, then or now, leaves no room for interpretation?
    9. What was the language of Palestine?
    10. What was the predominant religion in Palestine?
    11. What was the name of his currency? Pick any date in history and tell what the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian currency unit was against the US dollar, German mark, British pound, Japanese yen, or Chinese yuan on that date.
    12. And finally, given that this country does not currently exist, what caused its disappearance and when did it occur?
You lament the "sinking" of a "proud" nation. So tell me, when exactly was this “nation” proud and what was it proud of?
And here is the least sarcastic question of all: If the people you mistakenly call "Palestinians" are just generic Arabs who have come from everywhere - or who have been kicked out of everything - the Arab world, if they really have a real ethnic identity which gives them the right to self-determination, why did they never try to become independent before the Arabs suffered their devastating defeat in the Six Day War?
I hope you avoid the temptation to descend current "Palestinians" from the Philistines of the Bible using etymology since historically this does not work.
The truth should be obvious to anyone who wants to know it. Arab countries have never given up on the dream of destroying Israel; they still caress him today. The achievement of their diabolical goal by arms having failed again and again, they decided to fight Israel by proxy. To this end, they created a terrorist organization, cynically called "the Palestinian people" and installed it in Gaza, Judea and Samaria. How else can we explain the refusal of Jordan and Egypt, respectively, to take back the West Bank and Gaza?
The point is, the Arabs who inhabit Gaza, Judea, and Samaria claim far less to exist as a nation than an Indian tribe who successfully emerged in Connecticut for the purpose of starting a tax-exempt casino; this tribe, at least, was motivated by a constructive purpose.
The so-called "Palestinians" have only one motivation: the destruction of Israel and, in my opinion, that is not enough to consider them as a nation "- or anything other than what they really are. : a terrorist organization that will be dismantled one day.
In fact, there is only one way to achieve peace in the Middle East. Arab countries must recognize and accept their defeat in their war against Israel. As the vanquished they must pay reparations to Israel for the more than 50 years of devastation they have caused it. The most appropriate form of reparation would be the evacuation of their terrorist organization from the land of Israel and acceptance of Israel’s former sovereignty over Gaza, Judea and Samaria. It would mark the end of the Palestinian people.
How did it start, you say?

The argument you're making is tantamount to a call for genocide. Your denying that an ethnic group exists and then calling for them to disappear in the most frightening language possible.
Huge portions of the world wouldn't meet your definition of a nation, since it's based on purely Western concepts of statehood that are fairly irrelevant for North America, Africa, the Middle East, and much of Asia. By your argument, the indigenous peoples of North America have no claim to their lands either (send them to Oklahoma or a reservation, they're all the same and have no particular land rights).
The people you're targeting have lived on this land for centuries and have just as much of a claim to it as you do. Arguing that your people should have carte blanche to make them disappear because of spurious historical claims that they don't exist as a culture is frightening.
People have made arguments very similar to yours over the last 250 years, but at least in North America they're mostly considered white supremacists today. The fact that your ideas are so mainstream in Israel is really terrifying. I really hope you don't represent what most people believe in your country.
I know you're probably not going to read this or listen to anyone else about this, but please don't dedicate your life to hatred and justifying cultural or literal genocide. After everything the world and the Jewish people have been through in the 20th century, you need to be better than this. Everyone has a right to exist and live on the land where their dead lay buried.

Its so easy to dismiss the jewish people birthright of their motherland, but this is the world, always hating on jews... Let me ask you this, if you're so kin on playing the "moral guy". Why do you deny Jewish people their land? Why do you not go against thousands of jews evacuated from their homes everyday? Jewish people were legally unable return en masse to their homeland since their forced exile after the third Jewish Roman War in 135 AD. I think the treatment of native populations of America was abhorrent, but they have been granted much land, have been supported, and given sovereignty. The same respect was not paid by Pagan, Muslim, and Christian invaders into Israel, and especially not to their Israelite descendants during the 19th and 20th century.
When Jews were trying to escape the Holocaust, the Palestinian Grand Mufti of Jerusalem met with Hitler, and agreed that the genocide should be brought to the Middle East, too. And Palestinians rioted heavily between 1936 to 1939, and massacred in Hebron and elsewhere, so that Britain allowed no Jews to come to their homeland. During the tragic 1938 Evian Conference, they did the same, and the British were forced to issue the White Paper of 1938 allowing only 75,000 Jews to return while millions were rounded up and burned, gassed, shot, stabbed, starved, bludgeoned, and maimed to death. Some being round up by the very Albanian Muslim SS divisions that the Palestinian Grand Mufti of Jerusalem assembled himself, and at death camps he visited, or by Muslims he broadcasted to from his radio headquarters in Berlin.
Let me quote to you Zuheir Mohsen, leader of a PLO faction between 1971 and 1979:
“The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”
Let me quote to you, Article 7 of the Hamas Charter from 1988:
“'The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.'”
Let me quote to you Yasser Arafat:
“Our goal is the end of Israel, and there can be no compromises or mediations…. We don’t want peace. We want war and victory.”
      Again, Arafat on Oslo:
“When the prophet Muhammad made the Khudaibiya agreement, he agreed to remove his title “messenger of Allah” from the agreement. Then, Omar bin Khatib and the others referred to this agreement as the “inferior peace agreement.” Of course, I do not compare myself to the prophet, but I do say that we must learn from his steps and those of Salah a-Din. The peace agreement which we signed is an “inferior peace.” The conditions [behind it] are the intifada, which lasted for seven years.”
[Note: Arafat is referring to the Khudaibiya agreement made by Muhammad with the Arabian tribe of Koreish. The pact, slated to last for ten years, was broken within two years, when the Islamic forces-having used the peace pact to become stronger-conquered the Koreish tribe. His reference to Salah a-Din is to the Muslim leader who, after a cease-fire, declared a jihad against the Crusaders and captured Jerusalem.]
The Grand Mufti, who was the spiritual leader of Palestine, met with Adolf in 1941, gave him the Roman salute, and happily heard and agreed to the following:
The Fuhrer then made the following statement to the Mufti, enjoining him to lock it in the uttermost depths of his heart:
“1. He (the Fuhrer) would carry on the battle to the total destruction of the Judeo-Communist empire in Europe.
      2. At some moment which was impossible to set exactly today but which in any event was not distant, the German armies would in the course of this struggle reach the southern exit from Caucasia.
      3. As soon as this had happened, the Fuhrer would on his own give the Arab world the assurance that its hour of liberation had arrived. Germany’s objective would then be solely the destruction of the Jewish element residing in the Arab sphere under the protection of British power. In that hour the Mufti would be the most authoritative spokesman for the Arab world. It would then be his task to set off the Arab operations, which he had secretly prepared. When that time had come, Germany could also be indifferent to French reaction to such a declaration.”
Not only did and do Palestinians want to see an end to the Jewish state, they wanted and do want to see an end to the Jewish people. And the fact that you’re repeating their lies about an apartheid state, or genocide - which is logically not possible since Palestine is a separate entity, one with a growing and protected population is without regard to reality. This is all while Muslim and Christian Israelis in Israel enjoy full and healthy rights equal to Jews, which is the true antithesis to an apartheid system.
The Palestinians could’ve had a state in 1947 - 75 years ago. But they chose war. They could’ve had a state with East Jerusalem, Gaza, the West Bank, and Negev, and parts of the north, but chose war in 1967, they chose war in 1973, and throughout the expanse of the 20th and early 21st century they choose terrorism.
Israel during the Olmert government gave them everything they asked for - but they turned it down. They don’t care about their own state, they care about Jews not having a state.
That is why a large portion of their budget is spent on Pay for Slay, where terrorist prisoners and terrorist families are given rewards for acts of mass violence. Why a good portion of their humanitarian aid is diverted to funding terrorist tunnels, weapons, and aiding and abetting terrorist functions in myriad ways. Why a large portion of their school system, television, and radio promotes extremely violent antisemitism and straight up Jew hatred, and encourages jihadism - and glorifies “shahids.”
It is no wonder that Palestinians are far and away the most antisemitic nation on Earth, in a 2014 poll, 93% of them held a majority of antisemitic views.
Pagans had no right to conquer our land, Christians, and Muslims had no right. That didn’t stop them. You don’t get to choose when might makes right, and what security necessitates on our return. The Palestinians chose war over compromise. Wars have consequences. The more warring you do, the less compromise you are afforded. The sooner Palestinians accept peace with a Jewish state, the sooner they can focus on building their own. But if they insist on endless war, they will end up on reservations just like the native Americans. And their future will be bleak. That is not something I’d like, but that is where their trajectory points.
They must stop terrorism, they must stop genocidal extremism and hate, they must embrace pluralism and indigenous rights. There are 50 majority Muslim countries, including 21 Arab Muslim countries, and 30 majority minority Muslim countries. There are 162 majority Christian countries, 8 Buddhist, 7 Unaffiliated, 3 Folk Religion, and 3 Hindu majority countries.
There is only one singular majority Jewish country on Earth, the same one we’ve always sought. We don’t seek or need anymore, not 2, not 20, not 200. Israel is our past, present, and future.
And anybody who seeks to erase our existence here, seeks to de-protect our people in the form of anti-Zionism - as the world utterly failed to protect us in World War Two - is unequivocally an antisemite. Whether cognizantly or uncognizantly.

@@byronmaxad9679 Ironic. The original Philistines were *actually* the ones from Europe.
      A) Definition from “Bible Study Tools”
“The Philistines were an uncircumcised people inhabiting the shore plain between Gezer and Gaza in Southwestern Palestine (see PHILISTIA). The name Palestine itself (Hebrew pelesheth) refers to their country. The word means "migrants," and they came from another country. They are noticed 286 times in the Old Testament, and their country 8 times. The question of their race and origin is of great importance as affecting the genuine character and reliability of the Bible notices. In Genesis 10:14 (1 Chronicles 1:12) they are reckoned with other tribes in Mizraim (Egypt) as descendants of Ham, and as cousins of the old inhabitants of Babylonia (Genesis 10:6).”
      B) Study: “Philistines, Biblical Enemies of the Israelites, Were European, DNA Reveals”
“After analyzing the ancient DNA of 10 individuals buried at a Philistine archaeological site, an international team of researchers found that the Philistines descended from people in Greece, Sardinia or even Iberia (present-day Spain and Portugal). These ancestors migrated across the Mediterranean during the late Bronze Age or early Iron age, about 3,000 years ago.
But this European genetic signal was short-lived. Once the Philistines arrived in the southern Levant, an area encompassing the eastern Mediterranean, they intermarried with the locals. "Within no more than two centuries, this genetic footprint introduced during the early Iron Age is no longer detectable and seems to be diluted by a local Levantine-related gene pool," study co-researcher Choongwon Jeong, an archaeogeneticist at the Max Planck Institute of the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany, said in a statement. C) from Scientific American article “When Ancient DNA Gets Politicized”
“Though the word "Palestinian" comes from "Philistine," Palestinians are not thought of as the descendants of Philistines.”
      D) from academic article, “Why Do the Arabs Hate the Palestinians?”
“Regarding the Palestinian Arabs, the first point to make is that many of them are not originally Palestinians at all. They are immigrants who came to the Land of Israel from all over the Arab world during the British Mandate in order to find employment in the cities and on the farms the Jews had built. These immigrants still have names like Hourani (from Houran in southern Syria), Tzurani (from Tyre in southern Lebanon), Zrakawi (from Mazraka in Jordan), Masri (the Egyptian), Hijazi (from the Hijaz province of the Arabian peninsula), Mughrabi (from the Maghreb), and many other names that point to their true geographical origins.”
      E) From Deuteronomy 4:40
“Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may live long in the land the Lord your God gives you for all time.”
