As a Jewish guy living in another country, I think it's the first time I see an actual show where the leading cast is a Muslim. I learned a lot of new things. I really enjoy this show!
Kind of a break for the yearly Holocaust movie. Not saying it wasn't bad but every year they come out with another movie about it. Internet broke up the hegemony of who runs "Hollywood" so we finally can see other topics. I'm excited.
Bro I can see this guy getting an academy award one day!! It can be for his writing or acting!! He is just so talented and I can’t wait to see the success that will follow him!!
@@subdued_geodude_ Yeah i'm glad someone else feels this way, always been kinda conflicted about Hasan as a desi dude. Especially since he said in a recent podcast thing with Riz ahmed that the reason he went after his own communities in the first two episodes of patriot act was to put people (i'm assuming white people) at ease when he starts criticizing america. Not that his criticisms were invalid but the subtle implication (at least the way i read it) that those episodes were meant to make white audiences more comfortable made me feel kinda uneasy. Also kinda feel like Ramy has a better balance of criticizing his own community while still showing a clear pride and love for it, where as Hasan seems like he can go a bit overboard with the self deprecation but maybe i'm just projecting there.
This dude is the doppelganger of a guy I know who stood me up so I'm trying really hard to let that resemblance go. Makes me bummed to look at him and think of that, idk if I can watch his show but he seems so nice I'll probably give it a shot lol.
Really enjoyed watching. I especially liked the episodes that featured the sister, the mother, and the uncle (that one was *so* sad). The only other North American show I've seen that featured Muslims as main characters was a Canadian sitcom called "Little Mosque on the Prairie." It was on a bunch of years ago. I'm not into most sitcoms but I really liked it at the time, normalizing Islam for non-Muslim viewers; that said, "Ramy" is a big step forward.
Ramy I have started watching season 2... I have a bit of mixed feelings, but the fact that you got a brilliant actor like Mahershala Ali is great. I do enjoy all the characters especially your parents and your funny physically challenged friend.
It must be crazy living in america bc anybody you know could become an A-list celebrity anytime. What did your teacher tell about Ramy??? I bet he was a nice funny guy like he seems to be now!
He has the same attitude to getting high as me, except I am much older and still haven't achieved major goals so for me it's more like when I'm 70 I'll get high.
1:15 hey 4th grade level’s actually still impressive👌 Arabic was my mom’s first language so she’s a fully fluent speaker, but she can’t read a single word 😂
I feel the same way about drugs and alcohol. I'm 43 and have never done either. I really feel like if i started I wouldn't stop. Especially alcohol cause I'm naturally a very thirsty person so I could put back some fruity kind of alcoholic drink and become totally addicted like I am to Dr. Pepper. I also would smoke pot....in theory.

@ming chocolate it wasn't thatvi liked it I was curious of the condition of this generation. i was thinking maybe my generation of muslims were out of touch with the condition of youth today. i wont be watching anymore ive come to the conclusion that its not the norm thats depicted, but our condition is struggling due to some of the things you mentioned.
call me old fashioned but i was raised to serve my king. clean for him. cook for him and everything i do is for him. and if he cheats? that is on me! he caught me slipping and i will apologize and do better
As a muslim I have mixed feelings about the show . Although the characters were kinda over exaggerated I low-key connected with it . Alhamdulilah i have iman but every now and than as a young man not doing what everyone else is doing can be tempting .
That's the entire point and takeaway, which is why I also like it and relate. The exaggerating is so that can be entertaining and be picked up for TV, and I think they're *really* pushing it by end of S2... I do however like how he actually touches on taboo and mature content that most arabs refuse to even talk about.

Slight correction: "Dawah" means "invite" not "spread the religion" :)
