    It's the only remaining video when Battle Stations 21 was developed. This video was for high ranking Navy senior leadership to view. Since public funds were used in the making of the film, it was released as "Approved for Public Release. Distribution Unlimited".

    Upon further research of battlestations, and finding tons of pictures, this video, and an article from Popular Mechanics where a civilian was allowed to participate, I have come to the conclusion that the Pgae 13 we signed is a joke.

      Civilian here who participated in all events.You still are not supposed to talk about it, especially to new recruits. Which is why at the capping ceremony they tell you to not talk to recruits about any aspects of the events. There are parts of certain evolutions that need to be figured out by the recruits.

    As a Flight Surgeon from the USS Intrepid who helped care for the survivors of the USS Forrestal disaster in 1967 and as a co-author of the medical accident report of that event I am pleased to see that the US Navy has incorporated into its training some lessons learned from that horrific tragedy.

    when i went though, the event with passing ammo was unwinnable (before BST21). the compartment flooded no matter what you did. years later i ran into and asked one of my RDC's about it (this was before BST21 was completed) and he told me "you weren't meant to 'win' the event, it was meant to teach y'all to do your job even though you were drowning"

    we did Battlestations in NWU'S with no helmets with the USS Trayer, I remember falling down in the mess decks and tearing my leg open, and getting pinkeye, the next 6 hours I could hardly walk or see, glad it was over and I didn't have to do it again.

    In 2002 we did the ship drills on the USS Marlinespike. And we ran around the base all night waking up Divisions until the sun came up. That was pretty damn fun. In the end it was worth it. My division couldn't eat sweets until after Battle Stations. That meal we had in the galley after Battle Stations ended was the shit. Div. 139, Ship 02

    I asked this question on another video but I would like input from Navy guys here as well. The Army, AF and Marines have they culmination exercise staged over several days but yet the Navy's Battlestations lasts but 12 hrs. Do you think this exercise should be lengthened to 24, 30 or even 36 hrs to give recruits a more realistic idea of life and problems aboard ship? This question is being asked from the viewpoint of a career AF veteran. Go Navy and thanks for your Service.

    • @aarondavenport4684
      @aarondavenport4684 9 лет назад +1

      Well, you start Battle Stations around 8pm.. So, you're actually up for about 29ish hours. You do all your regular day-to-day stuff, do Battle Stations at night, then back to barracks around noon. It's not bad, but you're not supposed to talk about it to anyone other than those who went through it. I went through in 2007.

    • @aarondavenport4684
      @aarondavenport4684 9 лет назад +1

      To add more, the only scenario I experienced close to this was having a water pump on one of our Diesel Generators blow. Water went everywhere and it took about 18 hours to fix the issue. A longer Battle Stations wouldn't prepare for that. It covers the basics and that's about all you can ask for, majority of experience comes once you get to the fleet. I wouldn't want to experience anything else from Battle Stations onboard a ship.

    • @MrFalamezar
      @MrFalamezar 9 лет назад +2

      The thing to remember is once you get out to the fleet you have had your individual rating training. you only learn the very basics at boot camp. you specialize in what specific area of damage control you perform. for instance I was on the shoring team for my repair locker. Running the general quarters (battle stations) on the ship usually ran 1-2 hours depending on the scenario. When I did this in 97 we ran across the base between activities and were already tired and hungry be fore we even started. I honestly don't think there would be any benefit to going longer.
