as a regular viewer of your fixit vids and a qualified mechanic for 30+ years i was impressed with this home engine service a few tips for next time firstly work on an engine thats up to temperature the oil flushes out better and the spark plugs come out better too trust me secondly remove the dipstick when refilling the oil it lets the air out and oil in most mechanics would refill the oil asap after changing the filter and not leave the cap off the engine (just good practice in case 1 you forget to fill it seen it done and 2 something drops in also seen it done ) but i was impressed you looked up what oil and how much was required and took the time to use a measuring jug also just to mention you forgot to tell us that when topping up the coolant use like for like if its red use red if blue use blue if green use green as there not mixable and lastly you forgot the fuel filter which should be done as part of an engine service so all in all a few tips for next time but do keep up the good work as your getting much better with electronics and i thought the dishwasher heater vid was awesome hope to see lots more in 20 20
You see that button in the oil filter housing. By this i dont mean the oil filter cap but whatever it screws into. You need to depress that button a few times to expel the old oil captured in this oil filter housing whilst the oil is draining. After depressing this, the old oil captured, trickles into the sump to be drained through the sump plug hole in the usual way. There won't be much old oil captured in the oil filter housing but its best to avoid contamination of new oil as much as possible. Hope this helps. My favourite part of your video was the spark plugs replacement and i am confident in tackling this video now. I have the exact same spec car. Thanks for showing this.
This was a very helpful video. Thank you. Really nicely explained. I did struggle with the connectors on the coil packs. The designers could have made them a bit easier. I gave up on trying to undo the wiring connector on the engine cover. So, I unbolted the whole connection using the torx screw. I almost feel like modifying those two wires by using some spade connectors instead.
Amazing video. For some reason I could not free the second connector holding the engine cover. But managed to do it by pivoting the engine cover to rest upwards with the connector still in place.
Dude it was only just before Christmas my Mrs brother asked me about servicing his car in the new year. I have decent knowledge but they weird coincidence that you uploaded this had helped me decently to make sure it went nice and smoothly. Love your videos. Gives me a bit of confidence to try fixing things myself. Thank you. Hope 2020 is a great year for you
I have same engine, it now has 208.000km and with good maintainance and regular engine oil change it runs totally smooth and no oil burn!. Thanks for the video
@@wertGR thanks for your response, i just recently change engine oil, but they put 3.8L of oil, that will be a problem or what should i do? As i know mk5 just use 3.6L oil including oil filter change
This video's absolutely amazing, I've got VW Mk 5 petrol and I did service by looking at this video thank you very much I have saved £ 210. ( Kwik Fit price)
Thanks a lot for the guideline, I did the service today and all was exactly as you described so thank you so very much for your feed, keep up the great job 👌
Great job,did mine last Friday, replaced v belt too. Only thing don't forget the petrol filter too..underneath the right rear door..if not replaced it clogs up.
Just bought a fairly neglected one of these (poor thing). Thinking I will get a service done by a professional first time around just so they give it a really good check, (probably spend the car's worth again getting it MOT compliant), and then service it myself going forwards to save a bit of money considering it is fairly straight-forward work. Great video!
Hello guys my golf 5 fsi 1.6 is showing engine light then I put on the computer tell me that low pressure fuel system sensor fault, now I'm what can i change?
Good work Vince. Just want to shine in on some information regarding the VW sump plug. If you have an OE sump plug the washer is made of steel and is not replaceable. The whole screw with washer is to be replaced if it looks bad. The plug is to be tightened to 30-35Nm, no more. The sealing surfaces are precision machined at the factory and will not leak. If it gets over torqued and you damage the threads(easily done) the sump has to be replaced or taken off and repaired at a machine shop. Have seen damaged threads sooo many times.
Spark plugs are screwed into the hottest part of the engine so it's very common for the repeated thermal cycles to seize them in the holes. There's some debate over whether to put anti-seize compound on spark plug threads and it probably depends on the particular spark plugs.
I have the same one, I have an engine badge on the dashboard, and the information that the oil sensor needs to be done does it mean that the engine is on the finish
Just a quick reminder: The O-Ring of the Filter Cap needs to be covered in oil, at least a little bit. So, use the old oil and simply go over the o-ring with your oil covered finger. This will ensure the O-Ring to fit where it belongs and prevent it from popping out of its groove in the cap.
Great video! Does anyone else notice a very slight buzzing/humming noise when idling with this model 🤔 it goes away as soon as the accelerator pedal is on even at incredibly low revs
Jeez volkswagen, you not only integrated the air filter into the engine cover, you need to remove SEVEN screws even though the housing is hinged on one side?! *hugging my japanese cars*
@@rfmerrill I understand. But you usually need to vacuum out the housing from debris, like leafs and stuff. That's what I mean. It's a step you don't have to do with the VW system.
you know the MOT is the minimum safety standard a vehicle must meet, the advice given on a service although may not be an MOT fail is still very important and essential to both stay safe and prolong the life of your car, not to mention repairing things at first notice could save a lot of money in the long run as ignoring small issues an cause consequential damage down the line so anyone who just relies on an MOT for the inspection thinking theyre saving money and will be ok are most definatley not
Two things I notice very different in this car compared to American ones, is the oil filter and not sure if the spark plugs you guys have over there have seat washers that you need to almost tighten and crimp.
We have the metal housing filters too on older vehicles. I think these took over because the filter is easier to manufacture or something. These filters are mostly very cheap and I find them (mostly) more convenient to change du to them being in the engine bay.
Hi. Cheers. Had a major service. Fuel filter fitted too. Mot etc.. I still have this awful knock rattle noise underneath somewhere. When driving on uneven roads, bumps. The suspension is shit btw. Any clues!!???? Thanks. Oh steering is fine
I've watched quite a few of your videos and find them very informative. I was wondering if you have a video or maybe a series that focuses on using a multimeter to check capacitors, resistors, coils and other common checks you have used using a multimeter dnd how to check if they are bad or not. Also options on a multimeter to use for these checks?
it does look like one I seen around the summer time, plus the lack of clothing suggests it as well. looking back he did upload clips of this 2 months ago for the coil pack, and how to reset service interval. but sure he shown us all of this before then as well.
Yeah, this was filmed back in the summer the same day as the Ford Ka service. This one hasn't been on RUclips before but Michael has it correct. I took the coil packs part and the service interval part (and I still have a removing the engine cover to put live) and put them on RUclips as short videos. Most viewers don't want to watch a 25min vid to do one part of the job like the service interval, so hopefully those shorter vids will get some separate views in from non subscribers :-)
Nice job done. I have one question. Which engine oil did you used? I saw it is a castrol edge but cant see the label. And one more, whisch spark plugs did you put? Thank you.

a machine shop to tap the threads a size larger? Its not rocket surgery.
Gigs well ofcourse, if you have the means to do it yourself then there is no need to go to a machine shop.
Calling it the "pollen filter" is a very sharp marketing decision. Better than "Pollution from all the other cars filter" :P
