Anthony, I think you may have misunderstood gang gang. He may not have made it unbelievably clear, but from what I understood Jack was critiquing the idea of “bros forever”, stating that it is a toxic philosophy to hold, especially when it prevents you from cutting off people who have done horrible things. I do agree that he should have talked more abt the victims’ perspective, but he was most definitely not upholding the “bros forever” idea, and the chorus is a sarcastic way of critiquing it.
Jon Denton made a good point saying that the examples Jack have are really weird for that concept tho. There shouldn’t be any conflict when it comes to those crimes, just ditch those “friends.” Like it’s a no brainer. It would’ve been better if he just picked 1 friend & each verse was then growing apart over more minor stuff

I think a lot of people fantano included misunderstood the message of gang gang gang. The part where he talks about "brothers until somethin' is uncovered" is not saying that it is bad but that it is surprising hence the line ""I always got you," turns into "Well, I never thought you"". He doesnt think that it is bad that he let these people go. He never thought that there would ever be a point where he had to let them go because he couldnt connect these kind of awful things to these people. He is hurt and confused and does not know how to cope. Thats what the track is about imo

And seeing how Fantano has handled other relationships in the past, he fits the bill perfectly. Feel like Anthony completely missed the point of Blame on Me. It's not about friends drifting apart, it's about Jack's relationship with his little brother and how he regrets pushing him away and blaming him for his own self esteem issues and how their father treated the two differently. Even goes into talking about generational trauma and how humans often make the same mistakes their parents did when it comes to raising a child. Thought it was a really introspective track, one of my favorites this year, and was a good reminder to be nicer to my little brother as well.
He missed the entire point of the album. He didn’t understand the message on Gang, Gang, Gang and skips over a lot of songs subjects. It’s clear he dislikes the guy for some reason. One of my closest friends raped someone last year, and Jack is 100% right in the way he speaks. I would’ve done anything for him, and he would’ve done anything for me. He was someone who I didn’t think could do harm. All those memories are soured. I rarely speak to the person now, besides a random text every 3. I hate him now. I despise what he did. Everything I did for him feels in bad taste. Gang Gang Gang captures this emotion better than any song. The emotions are exactly what one goes through when this happens. And about not talking about the victim. The victim is obviously the most affected. Feeling upset or guilt for the victim happens, but that’s not what the song is about. It’s about the guilt you have in yourself. Jack puts it out frankly in the end. We all say what we’d do for somebody. Truthfully, there’s always a clause to that statement. And you don’t think of that clause till it’s too late.
I went through something very similar recently. Keep your head up man. Manipulative people are good at what they do… and good at putting on the “I’m a normal person mask”. Summarising blame on me, arguably the best track and most important moment of the album, as a track “lacking details” and being about “some friendship that fell apart” is quite telling… the perspective switches between brothers/father each verse are so clear and Jack tells the story about as well as anyone could’ve?? Sometimes I gotta wonder if he actually listens to the tracks or is too caught up in finding points to criticise the artist when he’s already got an opinion on them…

Really don’t understand why Gang Gang Gang is so confusing for everyone. It’s not some grand statement, and he’s not siding with those friends that did those things for god’s sake. Hoping Anthony does a Reading Your Comments, on this album, as I feel like he misunderstood alot about the album lyrically, especially on songs like Common Ground, Gang Gang Gang, and Blame On Me. An Example is the mentioned, “Common Ground.” The track mainly serves as a song for Jack to point out the various things he’s seen throughout his life in the suburbs. Yeah I don't think you got Gang Gang Gang, maybe look it up on Genius. He's basically saying how naive we are, growing up with this "ride or die" mentality to friendships because we'd never assume that they would do anything so fucked up. He's very much saying to hold those people accountable and discontinue those friendships. It's showing this situation of "holy shit, this happened. I grew up with that guy. I never would've seen that coming and it's tragic that it did".
I thought Jack made some really important statements on this album (I particularly appreciated the discussion of the inanity of "ride or die" attitudes on Gang Gang Gang, the generational trauma of toxic upbringing in Blame On Me). It might be short, but it's 0% filler. It's a good album. I've never really been a Jack Harlow fan before this, this is the only music of his I've really properly listened to, so I'm not at all a defensive fanboy when I say: Fantano, what the heck man, did you listen to the wrong album or something? How did you miss everything good about it?
I actually love this album, and I never thought I’d say that about a Jack project. Short and sweet, beautiful and soulful instrumentals, his most introspective and concise writing to date, and he touched on some hard hitting topics here. I’ve played it multiple times today and I won’t stop any time soon. 8.5 to arguably a 9/10 imo Top 3 favorites: Blame it on me, Denver, Ambitious Least favorite: No enhancers

I think Gang Gang Gang is one of the most beautiful songs on the track. You can hear the disappointment in his voice in the yhe chorus, the disdain when hes being tomd that his childhood friends did horrible things (look, im tellin you its kevin. That we've known since we were 7), on top of the resolve he comes to at the end of the song, showing how much he's changed in just the past couple of years since reaching the spot he's in. Genuinely an amazing song and im proud to say ive had the whole album on repeat since it came out lol easily an 8/10 for me. Easy listening, clear vocals, and chill beats.
Anthony, I love you man, but I think you missed the point of Gang Gang Gang. Jack is specifically making a song about the sadness that comes along with learning that someone you know has done something horrible. As someone who has been through a similar experience, you can both feel sad for ending the relationship while also knowing that it is the only option because of the awful thing they've done. Part of believing victims is acting on that belief, but that does not mean you're gonna be emotionless or only feel angry about your friends actions while doing so.
I didn’t interpret gang gang gang like that at all. To me he was saying that no matter how close to someone you are/were you never know what people do behind closed doors, and when you find out that they’ve done something terrible it may hurt but you have to separate from them because of what they did

I think you just didn't get this one.. on Gangganggang he clearly (to me at least) tells us how he can't be with these people after what they did and how terrible things like this can hide behind every childhood friend and you never know... Also making clear that just being on "the side of your gang" doesn't work and with this song he clearly tried to tell his shock and how you are NOT on their side anymore after what happened.
This review is NOT GOOD, lacks constructive criticism and has multiple points where Fantano clearly misunderstood the lyrics. Honestly just delete this, terrible misrepresentation of the music and shows your personal bias and distaste for mainstream/desire to be contrarian. Do I think this album is absolutely worth more than a 5 out of 10? damn i thought the timeskip in denver, the different perspectives of the little brother, jack, and the father on blame on me, and harsh critiques of the weight of time in a relationship as opposed to the people youve once called family. it was personal. he might have suburb ebonics but at least he captures it well. maybe it was going into the album with Below The Bar Expectation that helped my enjoyability of it, but I find Jack to actually having something to say artistically, as opposed to chasing Billboard hits.

Having people that you have wonderful memories with suddenly doing something terrible is painful, and the song criticizes the idea of brothers till death with the point being that no, you should cut these people off, but that doesn't mean it's an easy experience, it is still painful to do

first line of album “just talkin bout what i see” this isn’t an album that’s supposed to finish a conversation. it’s bringing awareness to the people who aren’t educated about poverty, racism, implicit and unconscious biases, and other systemic issues that are hidden to a lot of people. In this review there’s a lot of apparent issues with him not finishing conversations, but I don’t think that his his intention or place to do so. He knows he’s a white, middle aged, wealthy male who is loaded with privilege. He is not exactly in a position to speak for the minorities and decide how they’re problems should be solved. He is simply creating awareness and allowing conversation, as well as speaking his experiences. (in common ground at least and somewhat in denver)
About Gang Gang Gang, I will say that I'm giving Harlow the benefit of the doubt here, but given the context of the song, Fantano is not exactly misinterpreting how sounds. I visibly gagged when I heard the direction the song is going. If there was supposed to be some sort of sarcasm about the bro culture, then it wasn't very evident, and the unconditional love comment WAS there and there isn't a way around that. I think that ultimately, even if the last verse is sarcastic, it is still extremely misguided. I have found out that a person was horrific after the fact. When you leave, you're not exactly leaving on principle, you're leaving because your trust was broken. You're leaving because you were never actually friends. I feel like Fantano missed the point of gang gang gang. I took it as the idea that Jack thought his childhood friends would stay close for life, but turns out those innocent kids turned out to become awful people and he had to cut them out.
This is probably one of the more predictable scores you've given. That being said, i feel like Harlow progressed on this album so i hope to see better stuff from him in the future!
Anthony, I think you may have misunderstood gang gang. He may not have made it unbelievably clear, but from what I understood Jack was critiquing the idea of “bros forever”, stating that it is a toxic philosophy to hold, especially when it prevents you from cutting off people who have done horrible things. I do agree that he should have talked more abt the victims’ perspective, but he was most definitely not upholding the “bros forever” idea, and the chorus is a sarcastic way of critiquing it.

I think a lot of people fantano included misunderstood the message of gang gang gang. The part where he talks about "brothers until somethin' is uncovered" is not saying that it is bad but that it is surprising hence the line ""I always got you," turns into "Well, I never thought you"". He doesnt think that it is bad that he let these people go. He never thought that there would ever be a point where he had to let them go because he couldnt connect these kind of awful things to these people. He is hurt and confused and does not know how to cope. Thats what the track is about imo

And seeing how Fantano has handled other relationships in the past, he fits the bill perfectly. To them, having a friend that gets accused of something that horrible is like having a band aid where the adhesive is coming off. It's effortless to tear it off and get a new one.
Not saying that people shouldn't cut pedophiles or sexual deviants out of their lives, they should. But it's like Fantano and others literally can't fathom what it's like to grow up with someone, going to movies, amusement park, prom, parties together, then to find out one day that that friend is a monster. It's like they've never formed that sort of bond with someone, so they can only view it from the victims perspective.
It's pretty fucking irritating, ngl. Bc understanding how hard it can be for a person close to someone who's done the things described in the song is a pretty important perspective to understand. It's a different kind of trauma that can lead a person to commit other wrongs.
I like Fantano, I don't care for Harlow, but seeing people blatantly misinterpret the message here bc their empathy is only one way is really annoying.
Feel like Anthony completely missed the point of Blame on Me. It's not about friends drifting apart, it's about Jack's relationship with his little brother and how he regrets pushing him away and blaming him for his own self esteem issues and how their father treated the two differently. Even goes into talking about generational trauma and how humans often make the same mistakes their parents did when it comes to raising a child. Thought it was a really introspective track, one of my favorites this year, and was a good reminder to be nicer to my little brother as well.
He missed the entire point of the album. He didn’t understand the message on Gang, Gang, Gang and skips over a lot of songs subjects. It’s clear he dislikes the guy for some reason. One of my closest friends raped someone last year, and Jack is 100% right in the way he speaks. I would’ve done anything for him, and he would’ve done anything for me. He was someone who I didn’t think could do harm. All those memories are soured. I rarely speak to the person now, besides a random text every 3. I hate him now. I despise what he did. Everything I did for him feels in bad taste. Gang Gang Gang captures this emotion better than any song. The emotions are exactly what one goes through when this happens.
And about not talking about the victim. The victim is obviously the most affected. Feeling upset or guilt for the victim happens, but that’s not what the song is about. It’s about the guilt you have in yourself. Jack puts it out frankly in the end. We all say what we’d do for somebody. Truthfully, there’s always a clause to that statement. And you don’t think of that clause till it’s too late.
I went through something very similar recently. Keep your head up man. Manipulative people are good at what they do… and good at putting on the “I’m a normal person mask”. The mask didn’t just fool you and me… it fooled everyone. Don’t feel bad… just know that they had a super good mask and get better at spotting the mask slips.

Hoping Anthony does a Reading Your Comments, on this album, as I feel like he misunderstood alot about the album lyrically, especially on songs like Common Ground, Gang Gang Gang, and Blame On Me.
An Example is the mentioned, “Common Ground.” The track mainly serves as a song for Jack to point out the various things he’s seen throughout his life in the suburbs. This is made clear with the line, “Just talkin’ ‘bout what I see, It’s not opinion based, it’s just, just sh*t I see”
There isn’t much of a final conclusive statement present, as this song serves to set up the stage for the rest of the album to play out in.

He's basically saying how naive we are, growing up with this "ride or die" mentality to friendships because we'd never assume that they would do anything so fucked up. I think Gang Gang Gang is one of the most beautiful songs on the track. You can hear the disappointment in his voice in the yhe chorus, the disdain when hes being tomd that his childhood friends did horrible things (look, im tellin you its kevin. That we've known since we were 7), on top of the resolve he comes to at the end of the song, showing how much he's changed in just the past couple of years since reaching the spot he's in. Genuinely an amazing song and im proud to say ive had the whole album on repeat since it came out lol easily an 8/10 for me. Easy listening, clear vocals, and chill beats.

Anthony, I love you man, but I think you missed the point of Gang Gang Gang. Jack is specifically making a song about the sadness that comes along with learning that someone you know has done something horrible. As someone who has been through a similar experience, you can both feel sad for ending the relationship while also knowing that it is the only option because of the awful thing they've done. Part of believing victims is acting on that belief, but that does not mean you're gonna be emotionless or only feel angry about your friends actions while doing so.

He was trying to indicate that he will break off ties with these people, despite the stereotype that gangmates will be by each other's side thick and thin. I think the chorus line on the song is also ironic, especially with the rather sad way he delivers it.
when jack was talking about 'unconditional love becoming conditional' he isn't criticising people for ditching their abusive friends, hes merely describing how HE HIMSELF felt after he heard about the allegations. He thought he had unconditional love for these people but found that this love did have bounds when he discovered his friends' behaviour.

TLDR: Your interpretation of "Gang Gang Gang" is blinded by your appeal to progressivism for thinking that the third verse of the song should've been about believing victims (4:38) even though that wasn't the point of the song at all (nor should it have to be), suggesting it's a commentary on "cancel culture" (5:06) which is just fucking weird considering cancel culture outrage is a conservative/Republican thing, or even thinking that "friendships end over smaller stuff all the time" (5:35) is a worthy critique that's relevant to the subject of the track.
Dude your interpretation of "Gang Gang Gang" is one of the examples where your appeal to progressivism throughout recent years is heavily influencing your music criticism (which isn't surprising at all; any ideology will affect outlook on literally everything). Most of the audience does NOT need their hand held by Jack Harlow telling them they should believe victims after telling stories of a friend getting 7 rape charges and another friend that met with a 10 year old. Most who disagree aren't going to be convniced by a line/verse in a song anyway. That would've ruined the entire track. Your take on that is like not liking a superhero movie (regardless of other factors) only because it ended with the antagonists winning instead of the expected, predictable ending of the protaginists winning.
The fact that you think Jack believes his stories have anything to do with "cancellation" or even suggest that's what he was thinking about when making the song (5:06) is so fucking weird; like, the only people that obsessed with cancel culture are conservatives/Republicans (which goes both ways, progressives love circlejerking over making fun of conservative outrage culture).

You literally capture the point of the song, but framed it as a critique of it (because your interpretation lead you to believe it WASN'T about that) instead of as an acknowledgement of what the song was trying to accomplish.

This sounds like a self-report that you never had a conflict among someone you consider a friend that reflects the situations in the song. Obviously that's GREAT that you haven't had to deal with that, (My first sentence might have come off as if I think you're "lame" for not having a freind turned into a rapist or something lol that's not what I mean) but I think the above sentence sounds like a hollow, reductive claim that practically ignores the gravity of the theme and topic being discussed in the song.

I think you just didn't get this one.. on Gangganggang he clearly (to me at least) tells us how he can't be with these people after what they did and how terrible things like this can hide behind every childhood friend and you never know... Also making clear that just being on "the side of your gang" doesn't work and with this song he clearly tried to tell his shock and how you are NOT on their side anymore after what happened.

This review is NOT GOOD, lacks constructive criticism and has multiple points where Fantano clearly misunderstood the lyrics. Honestly just delete this, terrible misrepresentation of the music and shows your personal bias and distaste for mainstream/desire to be contrarian. Do I think this album is absolutely worth more than a 5 out of 10? Not necessarily but the review of the individual tracks shows a lack of understanding on song concepts that seem pretty easy to grasp.

damn i thought the timeskip in denver, the different perspectives of the little brother, jack, and the father on blame on me, and harsh critiques of the weight of time in a relationship as opposed to the people youve once called family. it was personal. he might have suburb ebonics but at least he captures it well. maybe it was going into the album with Below The Bar Expectation that helped my enjoyability of it, but I find Jack to actually having something to say artistically, as opposed to chasing Billboard hits.
Its definitely an improvement for jack, but he definitely still has a ways to go.

He never downplayed any of the actions displayed in the song. The line about people doing it out of fear is true in some cases because some people try to deny and hide the truth, but only really condemn it out of fear when made public.
I feel like Anthony missed the point of Gang Gang Gang, it’s more about how you want to support your friends for life, but you have to hold them accountable for their actions and you have to completely sever ties with them when there are allegations like this, no matter how close you used to be.

I've been in a situation close to gang gang gang, thankfully not as dark, and I genuinely have no clue how you missed the point. Having people that you have wonderful memories with suddenly doing something terrible is painful, and the song criticizes the idea of brothers till death with the point being that no, you should cut these people off, but that doesn't mean it's an easy experience, it is still painful to do

first line of album “just talkin bout what i see” this isn’t an album that’s supposed to finish a conversation. it’s bringing awareness to the people who aren’t educated about poverty, racism, implicit and unconscious biases, and other systemic issues that are hidden to a lot of people.
In this review there’s a lot of apparent issues with him not finishing conversations, but I don’t think that his his intention or place to do so. He knows he’s a white, middle aged, wealthy male who is loaded with privilege. He is not exactly in a position to speak for the minorities and decide how they’re problems should be solved. He is simply creating awareness and allowing conversation, as well as speaking his experiences. (in common ground at least and somewhat in denver)

About Gang Gang Gang, I will say that I'm giving Harlow the benefit of the doubt here, but given the context of the song, Fantano is not exactly misinterpreting how sounds. I visibly gagged when I heard the direction the song is going. If there was supposed to be some sort of sarcasm about the bro culture, then it wasn't very evident, and the unconditional love comment WAS there and there isn't a way around that. I think that ultimately, even if the last verse is sarcastic, it is still extremely misguided. I have found out that a person was horrific after the fact. When you leave, you're not exactly leaving on principle, you're leaving because your trust was broken. You're leaving because you were never actually friends. You're leaving because if your friend could do "that" to another human being, then the person you thought you were friends with ever actually existed and shadows ain't nothing but cold. I don't know about this song.
