  • This video will walk you through replacing the starter. Please note that there's a segment of the video where I'm removing an engine roll stop but I refer to it as a mount. Also not clearly stated is the need for a jack under the transmission side when removing the roll stop. The roll stop prevents the engine from rocking out of position under acceleration.

    Just did this today on 2008 Sedona. I just removed o2 sensor (21 or 22 mm). Plenty of room without taking off the mount. Also a variety of shallow, mid, and deep sockets with 1, 2, and 3 inch extensions give you plenty of versatility to do this repair. Thank you for the video. Always good to see what your in store for!

      You are right. You do not need to remove the engine mount, o2 sensor will give you plenty of room. I just did it 10 minutes ago.

    Thanks for the great video. I have been using one Sedona to Frankenstein the second Sedona, before sending it to the junk yard. I especially appreciated the attention to detail your images showed compared to other videos that are out there. I do agree with the other poster about not messing with the mount, as I don't want to be worried with anything bad that could result from that. I'm not exactly a trained mechanic, after all... This is the second semi-major repair I have been able to tackle myself. Not counting the thermostat on the old one, I switched out the AC Compressor (that was a bear!!!), and now working on the starter, all thanks to RUclips videos and a Chilton Manual.

      I did not remove the mount, nor any of the air filtration bits from the top (mine is a 2005). I did, however, have to unbolt the exhaust pipe to get that blasted heat shield out, and getting it back in was an even bigger headache. Because I did that, I also ended up having to replace the flange gasket, because my minivan suddenly sounded like it belonged on a race track. :)

    Sir: your video provided the gumption for me to tackle this project on my 2007 Hyundai Entourage (a Kia Sedona by any other name). May I suggest a small improvement for efficiency? Support the transmission, remove the roll-stop components and bracket, remove the starter shield, replace the starter, replace the starter shield, etc. I'm 66 years old, did it by myself, did not remove any other components...

    Valuable video, however, just had to remove the O2 sensor and position the sockets properly for a one-man fix. Took 2hrs to remove, 1hr to install, fun!

    Super video. Thanks so much. I have the similar symptoms in a 2007 Sedona with 185k miles. local service staiton cannot reproduce the starting problem. Periodically, I turn the key, see all the dash lights and nothing happens, soelnoid doesn't engage and starter does not crank. If I keep turning the key, eventually after 20 or more attempts, it does engage and starts right up. It is not a dead battery. I was wondered if it is a starting interlock switch like "needs to be in park" "needs brake on", or if it is a bad ignition switch. The ignition switch is loose. Any thoughts on how to diagnose this would be appreciated.

    Forget the make, it’s all about the maintance you put in your car ,that is what gives it longevity and don’t buy cheap parts

    • @chicanopridealvarez1385
      @chicanopridealvarez1385 5 лет назад

      Scott L there is no maintenance except for keeping oil and water away as much as possible my original reply was meant to keep up oil changes and fluid ,belts hoses, and that’s about it and car will have perks likes change outs on parts but car will take care of you if you take care of it

    I'm not taking the mount off. A guy on the other video took the starter off on a 2006 Kia Sedona with only taking the O2 sensor out. That's the way I will do it. Forget taking the mount bracket out.

    • @windoffreedom7358
      @windoffreedom7358 7 лет назад

      Ok, thanks. I've been turning wrenches for over 38 years. I've built almost everything. I think I can do it without taking the mount off, we will see. I've taken out and put in extremely difficult bolts in my lifetime. The O2 sensor only needs to be taken out so the starter can lower down between the exhaust pipe and motor. I watched the other guy do it. However, there may be a design difference with that mount bracket you removed between the '06 and '07 so we will see. I have an '07 like you have.

    why would you need a heat sheet for the starter?

    • @fastskipper777
      @fastskipper777 4 года назад +1

      Old comment but for others: HEAT kills electronics. The starter is right next to the down exhaust manifold (pipe) going to the Y pipe to the big catalytic converter in the middle of the car. It gets really hot. Thus the heatshield. Starter has a small solenoid that actuates and that turns the armature surrounded by field coil; armature is connected to a rod with the teeth that connects to the flywheel attached to the crankshaft. Armature and field coil last long time. But the solenoid will go bad. Typically, you can fix the solenoid and you can make the starter last a long time. For example, you can buy starter rebuild kit for Toyota Camry i4 and v6 engines (Denso unit). It will make the starter last another 100,000 miles. Armature and field coil are just bunch of copper coil in cylindrical forms.

      I'd have to disagree. I bought my Sedona new in 06 and only replaced brakes,spark plugs,battery and tires. The van has 115k and runs great. The reason I'm here is I think the starter needs replacing. But my van has never been in for any major repairs in the 11 years I owned it. It's been driven to Florida 3 times. Been happy with this van.

      Our 2006 Kia Sedona has been very reliable. Only minor repairs.

    • @sangkim1035
      @sangkim1035 7 лет назад

      Reliable, but not as reliable as I would like it to be. AT 50K miles, intake boot was torn and was throwing check engine light. $45 part, 1 hour labor to replace. At 50K miles it developed engine oil leak at both of the valve covers. Took me about 5 hours to fix them. Then engine start making rattling noise at start around 70K miles. Two timing chain tensioners were failing (KIA TSB ENG 028). I had to pull them out and replace (20-30 hours of labor ouch! pros can do it under 15 hours). The van has 80,000 miles on and I only had three services (other than routine maintenances) Is it reliable? reliable enough compare to other cars I had. but not as reliable as Honda or Toyota. Then again, the reason I got this van because Honda Odyssey had serious problem of transmission failing and Toyota had their engine sludging with oil problem at the time. Sedona was only van at the time did not have major issues.

    • @KeithFolske
      @KeithFolske 7 лет назад

      Bummer. My intake boot only cost $12 and 5 minutes to replace.

    • @74Dyenamo
      @74Dyenamo 6 лет назад

      It's gets old always hearing people bash China for shoddy craftsmanship. I agree that some of their stuff (not everything like a lot of people say) is rough around the edges and could use a little more finishing touches before it's out the door. BUT, do you people realize that this is a KIA THAT WAS MADE IN SOUTH KOREA?!!! The distance between where this was made (Soha-dong, Gwangmyeong, South Korea, near the country's capital of Seoul in the Gyeonggi province) is only 1258 miles to the China border!!! I gotta be honest with ya, while some of their products may be sub par, they make up for it in kick ass fireworks!!!

  • @theminecartofdenissmincart4246

    Thank you , I had my Kia starter repaired, disassembled, cleaned and works again here is a link how to repair your starter, just I. Russian your don’t have to understand ruclips.net/video/u9TGW1Sbm04/видео.html, be careful when you take brush assembly out, you can use а bushing when you take assembly out, or use cable ties to tied you brushes when sitting back to the rotor
