Knives that have the handle pulled up from the blade feel so good in the hand. A lot of kitchen knives have this design too. I wish more knife makers would incorporate this.
I've been waiting a long time for this review, I've had mine for over 3yrs. It's one of the Baddest Tanto's on the planet. Who says Tanto's can't chop , like GT said , it is a great tactical survival knife. In Cold Steels video of this knife , they hang a Volvo from the knife with a chain and then bounce it up and down, the blade held up perfectly , but the chain rubbed the scales off , probably because of the small screws , if you don't trust the screws , you can always drill , tap , and put bigger screws in yourself. If you like Tanto's , you have to get this one, period .
World of Warcraft! Nasty looking blade. I remember waaaaay back in the 1980’s when their first tanto came out. I used to have one of the original and the magnum. I wish I still did.
I saw it in their catalog and now seeing this review puts that Tanto on high alert ,Cold Steel did good with that design and it's a Bad Moe Foe 4 Showw .
Good review, I have a Cold Steel Voyager XL Tanto. I love it! It's a folder but don't act like one. I've even used it to weed my yard(in the dirt) and it keeps a razor edge. you should check it out.
To be honest I have never really been interested in any Cold Steel products. However I really like this knife you showed. Looks like a great design and at least it has a good sheath as well. For that price point, seems like a good deal for a 3v knife and a good sheath. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the review. I have SRK/SRK-C SK-5 knifes - junk. The black coating come off in first 2 days of use. Rubber handle start wobbling after 3 days of usage (never buy knifes with rubber handle). However - they are good for throwing - well balanced. as for the Warcraft Tanto - It is definitely a winner.
Why they taper the Tang is because of shock it actually reduces the amount of shock up at the point where the handle starts so that way it keeps it from breaking at that point
Loved GT Junior hiding in the bush! LOL Really good review...thanks for pointing out the tang taper, never knew that. Also thanks for trying these tantos in the outdoors-type tasks. I never would've considered them as suitable, but I've been pleasantly surprised by what you've found.
Just ordered one from DLT trading. I've had low interest in "tactical knives" until I discovered this was made from a thick hunk of CPM 3V -- which turns it into a VERY serious bush knife in combination with tactical utility. In the woods I would carry this as my "large knife" (7.5"), and then a smaller knife for detailed work (Bark River Bushcrafter is a good choice there, or the aurora or mini-aurora/bushcrafter/kephart, etc).
Tanto blades are superior in my opinion. I own about 15 different knives, which is a smell collection compared to many. But I always end up using my tanto knives at both work and in the woods. My others knives sit unused for the most part since the tanto proves superior in really any situation. The tanto point is great for stab cutting straps under tension.
I seen a video where they lift a bobcat or some other heavy piece of machinery with this knife. I have also seen reviews on Amazon and people complained about the fit and finish. I don't know if them review's were wrote when amazon let anyone write reviews even if they never purchased the knives or not. Knife looks solid and bad ass.(edit) If i owned that knife i would get a kydex sheath for it
A Gerber LMII, or prodigy design, in the cold steel, CPM S35VN, tanto, half serrated would be the most awesome combat knife I can imagine, possibly with finger grooves in the handle, maybe not ? The SR1, and Recon 1 folders are the best, most well rounded steel folders I have found, period ! Spyderco is like a snowflake gentleman’s knife for around the office, that will end up slicing your fingers as soon as it’s slippery. I would never by spyderco, and I have collected hundreds of knives and swords over a half a century. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone with more woodland experience than me, and I’m ex-military.

You say you wouldn't regularly carry it on camping trips. Didn't say why but suspecting weight for what benefit you'd get out of it. Having a hard time seeing much actual practical application for this knife. For military, i've heard from more than a few of an interest in *light weight*, compact, sturdy tools; they've usually got way enough gear to carry as it is. Noting i don't see any comments here, "I carried this in Afghanistan and love it!" Noting there does not appear to be even one single comment from anyone in the military on this vid. i can see it making a decent camp knife but that's actually a more limited niche market and, in this price range, has some serious competition out there (for the price, i'd take a Terävä Skrama over this any day for that purpose). Then there's the sheathes. Ya, you'll need to carry your diamond stone. The material Cold Steel uses for their sheathes is very hard and abrasive. It will take the edge right off an Aus8 blade and also some higher end steels i've tested on it. Cold Steel could mitigate this in design, just making it so the edge doesn't comes in contact with the sheath in normal use but they haven't addressed this in the many years they've been using that material for their sheathes. Agreed, it's a tough knife with quite a bit of a cool factor but, as best i can make of it, is largely a solution in want of a problem. Suitable for collectors and maybe kids into Assassin's Creed or something, generally people with more dollars than sense.
How dose this compared to Beaker BK7...i have not seen anyone compare these two blades and i assume close in performance. I only found that warcraft is slightly heavier.
I’m loving it! Thanks! And hey, while I’m writing, what about a review of the Tops Backpacker Bowie, since you’re a fellow backpacker. Thanks again, keep up the great work!
Brother Have you seen the new SOG Terminus XR? I’m really interested in that knife but kinda waiting on it to be available on Amazon also I trust your reviews and recommendations a lot and was wondering if you were able to get your hands on one and test it a little yet. Anyways mahalo for this sweet review on the Warcraft!

.19.2? You can only have one decimal point! Ha! Ha, wipe with oil and watch the finish come back. My favourite knife and i have a few in the sabre grip it is wicked!
The fasteners are shit. I’ve got the Magnum Warcraft Tanto and use it for trail clearing. Even with loctite they loosen up on me. They are very light duty and I could easily strip them trying to tighten them as I did on the pocket clip screw on my SR1. They should be way more overbuilt and there should be three fasteners for redundancy. As is, if one fastener fails the scales will fall completely out of place. Also the foremost fastener is placed in the narrowest part of the handle tang making the tang weaker at that point, which may never pose an issue, but it just bugs me that strength wasn’t maximised by careful placement. The scales don’t fit the tang very well and even though the handle overall is shaped for wrist flick chopping the scales are poorly contoured around the index finger for repetitive work, although they could be filed down by the user to improve this. Having said all that, I love the blade and the overall idea of the tool as a compact machete/XL survival knife. But for a company that sells toughness Cold Steel need to sort out their fastener game. The Magnum is also an example of where designs don’t necessarily scale up without additional tweaking. The issues I encountered may not be as apparent on the smaller versions.
Uncommon Guest It is a nice big chuck of 3V for a good price (if you shop around) and a unique design that I think fits a particular niche well, but I’ll be looking to make my own scales and pins if I get a chance.
I bought mine from DLT Trading a couple months ago. I paid $209, and the page for the knife clearly says it has CPM 3V steel. HOWEVER, NOWHERE on the knife OR the box is it labelled as being CPM 3V steel. EVERY knife I have ever bought with "premium" steel has printed the steel type on BOTH the knife and the box. Anyone else who would love to see a comparison video with the Warcraft tanto versus The Kabar Zombie Tanto and The Böker Armed Forces fixed blade tanto?😋😋😋😋😋
When you show it batoning, that is the size of stick you should chop in survival. Not great big logs where you could break your knife. But if camping use a small hatchet. And save your knife. Good knife for a soldier.
I would go with a Gerber Strongarm. That's its primary use, a soldier knife. Sure it can be a little pain to sharpen, but they dont dull quickly and it's tough as nails. The other thing to note is the blade's tip, strongarm has a very strong tip, but none the less easy to thrust into the kidneys of the enemy. It also has a modular sheath you can place anywhere on your armor or battle belt which not a lot of knives has that option without an aftermarket or custom made sheath. For $50, it will cut, it will kill, it will do everything you need it to do, and if you lose it or somehow destroy it, it's only $50 and Gerber does have a great warranty. If you don't like Gerber, I would check out KaBar and Esee (Esee 6 also has a great sheath). Tops makes some excellent knives too. Only issue with some of these other knives, the sheath some come with will not be very modular at all or not really molle compatible and obviously the weight and length will have to be taken into consideration.
@Norse Woodsman Price doesnt matter. Its the results of the testing that does. No offense to you or anyone else, but from the many destruction tests done on the Strongarm, there have been many much more expensive knives that failed. Dont get me wrong, I have quite a few high end knives, but I wouldn't use my Tops Silent hero or the SXB over seas and be jaming it or prying stuff open with them. Sure if one wants to spend the money, you can't beat a bark river, but if Im running around with a lot gear out in desert climate, cutting random crap, and the occasional hand to hand with an enemy, I just want something that works and something that won't easily break. The other thing to think about is the fact items do get lost. Especially in fire fights and lots of room clearing missions. It doesn't happen often but it does happen, I know quite a few Marines who lost shit in the sand or from constantly getting in and out of humvees and armored trucks. For a soldier, their number 1 investment is their rifle then the gear. Believe it or not, a knife isn't a top tier item on that list as it serves more for utility purposes than combat. Though the importance of items do change if you're talking about infantry vs special forces.
@Norse Woodsman I wont argue with you about the edge retention, its definitely not the best, it can be a pita to sharpen as well. But the BDZ-1 version is a lot better, then again, not by a significant margain. That's also a reason why many guys carried a folder. They used the folder to do most utility work to save the edge on their primary knife for the enemy. That is what my brother did in Iraq. He had a spiderco folder and his KaBar USMC knife sharp for the jihadis, though he never had to actually use it. Yet he broke the damn thing the third day out on our camping trip, lmao.
Just fyi, under your “fav choppers,” the BK 39 isnt on amazon anymore. Maybe change the link or possibly replace it with a different knife thats easier to get?
This is certainly not a new blade but I'm glad you got to feature it. . . and it is aaammaahzinggg! I could totally see it as a soldier/field knife. Another one for the wish list!
I would like to see a comparison of the cold steel recon1 tanto XL model. Strong folder with similar capabilities and size. I have one if you want me to send it to you for the video. Just message me and let me know.
Interesting how all of these reviews of the CS Tanto blades on YT, the narrator keeps saying there a better knives out there, while the video shows that this knife pretty much does everything they throw at it very well, and with ease, and better than the 'better' knives did....
No comment on the poor craftsmanship and assembly of the very knife you are holding and showcasing? We can actually see the handle of the blade not having a good symmetrical fit. The left side piece shows a gap close to where the blade begins... the business end!. It looks like crap will get into the handle over time and there is no way this is ergonomic. That seems to be a pretty hefty pricepoint for an obvious lack of quality control.
Yeah, this is a good overview... but a weak sauce review (sorry Aaron, I enjoy your channel). I'm a Cold Steel fanboy, I own a bunch of their blades and use them daily, but despite being an overall cool design there are some issues with the handle scale fasteners, fitment and design that weren't picked up on in this test. I already wall-of-texted the details in another reply, so I won't go into it here.
Yiannis2112 Been out at the range all day just got back in. On fit and finish, I don’t really see what is being pointed out as a problem. It’s not perfect, but neither are Kabar’s, Esee’s, or tops all the time. Not unless I am buying a mid tech or custom do I see perfect grind angles and handle semi tee. As to the fact that I think everything so great, I think I am on of the more critical reviewers on RUclips. Look at the Esee cleaver review, brous silent soldier, fenix LD version 2. Nitecore light a month ago with the wheel adjustment....the list goes on.
Keep it well greased as the sheath will scratch it up no end. If you buy it for a collection do not use the sheath. If you use it so what, it's a knife. It will soon scrath up. Believe me.
Mr. Gideon I love your videos and you're awesome but I'd like to ask you to please be a bit harsher on the knives you test. Try to break them sometimes PLEASE. Especially the fixed blades. This knife is extremely stout and you're barely stabbing it into wood and prying sideways. Stick in in there HARD & pry sideways please. I'm trying not to cuss & I find myself yelling at you like a crazy man :) (P.S. Loyal Subscriber)
Great review!! Love reading the comments/opinions on "tactical, combat, military" style knives from yuppie camping enthusiasts that have never had to actually depend on a knife. Waiting for an "expert survivalist" to mention carrying an axe, knife and saw everywhere they go because "real preppers/bushcrafters" would never chop with knife. 😂
Just FYI to anyone who may want the smaller Warcraft tanto, the handle is thinner and shorter by about a 1/4". Great blades all in all.

Why they taper the Tang is because of shock it actually reduces the amount of shock up at the point where the handle starts so that way it keeps it from breaking at that point

This knife would be absolutely sick if it came in a drop point or Spear Point!
That's what I was thinking. Come on CS, DO IT!!
With its tang design, bad design for a spear point. Spear points shouldn’t curve. You’re talking a complete different design.
The screws holding the handle in place look too small & weak. I might still get the 5.5" model though.
The screws loosened up time by time if chopping something hard

Just fyi, under your “fav choppers,” the BK 39 isnt on amazon anymore.
Maybe change the link or possibly replace it with a different knife thats easier to get?
Nice vid. This blade was worth every penny.
I am kind of surprised the game Warcraft didn’t have a problem with using that name.
Hello! i need an opinion, what to choose between warcraft tanto (cpm3v) or puzon bowie (Sk85). please give me a good advice! thank you!
Go for the Warcraft tanto. Way better steel
This is certainly not a new blade but I'm glad you got to feature it. . . and it is aaammaahzinggg! I could totally see it as a soldier/field knife. Another one for the wish list!
If you did an arm hair shave demo that would be cool
lol see that lil' sword fighter at 0:56 back there =D
Man, the knifes you review are sick! I wanna buy them all... Haha! BTW, great reviews! Keep em coming!
sadly 4 me as a DAV way outa my price range doubt they will ever hava 2nd on that one & now 2nd's not discounted 2 much
To bad they didnt make this knife in a clip point . Or an srk knife with 3V and g10 full tang would be amazing
I would like to see a comparison of the cold steel recon1 tanto XL model. Strong folder with similar capabilities and size. I have one if you want me to send it to you for the video. Just message me and let me know.
Nice stab table.
Wicked Sick Blade 🤘❤️
CS Rules always ahead of curve TY 4 info
Not a big tanto knife guy but I like it. Great review
Interesting how all of these reviews of the CS Tanto blades on YT, the narrator keeps saying there a better knives out there, while the video shows that this knife pretty much does everything they throw at it very well, and with ease, and better than the 'better' knives did....
Sin duda el mejor cuchillo de cold steel
Glad to see you getting given a knife! You always spend your own cash on these reviews. Hope more good things for the channel.
Amazon sells it for 143 dollars.
Maybe 4 year’s ago. Today it’s hard to find.
That is gorgeous
#mailbag What is your favorite book-to-big screen movie (or series)?
love your channel!
You have a little person stalking you in the bushes!
Want
Hehe seen a Junior bush crafter far left at 1 minute 😁
U wanna sell it
ahhh... there gremlins in the backround....or hobbits, cant tell. I think they wanna beat u with sticks.
I love the blade but absolutely despise the handle. It feels awful in the hand. Why put that tiny little handle on this giant blade.
It is just cool.
Pretty dainty for something called "warcraft", just my opinion.
I have one of these. Not dainty at all unless you compare it to some TOPS knives.
it wont get good till warcraft 3
No comment on the poor craftsmanship and assembly of the very knife you are holding and showcasing? We can actually see the handle of the blade not having a good symmetrical fit. The left side piece shows a gap close to where the blade begins... the business end!. It looks like crap will get into the handle over time and there is no way this is ergonomic. That seems to be a pretty hefty pricepoint for an obvious lack of quality control.
I have one of these also and it has some fit and finish issues with the scales. But the handle is actually very ergonomic.
Fred Laroche Of course no comment on poor craftmanship. Gideon finds pretty much everything, to be great...
Each Day I must have missed them and they, must not effected the use or feel of the knife. Thank for the honest feed back.
Is it just me, or do the Warcraft Tantos look like bread knives? Asking for a friend
There’s a killer in the bush
Keep it well greased as the sheath will scratch it up no end. If you buy it for a collection do not use the sheath. If you use it so what, it's a knife. It will soon scrath up. Believe me.
I’ve had no issues and use the shit outta mine.

Good review as always, like the knife and your sunglasses , but, you are giving off some heavy unabomber vibes with those mirrored aviators on video.
Stats on it must be good xD
Is like an steroid Recon tanto
Great review!! Love reading the comments/opinions on "tactical, combat, military" style knives from yuppie camping enthusiasts that have never had to actually depend on a knife. Waiting for an "expert survivalist" to mention carrying an axe, knife and saw everywhere they go because "real preppers/bushcrafters" would never chop with knife. 😂
American made also. awesome
*Tan-Toe*
Nice knife.BUT.... don't even try to use it for fighting or that kind of use. This design fits more in video games like world of Warcraft 😑😑😑.
That’ s dubious that any real soldier ‘ ll want to have that stupid useless peace of rail in his equipment .
