Informative, but you missed an important point about SloMo. The G9 offers in HD many framerates, also 125 frames per second. You just have to set the variable framerates now, not the high speed video function.
The G9 does have 1080p 24p recording, it's in the AVCHD mode. And the G90 has a terrible crop in 4K, while the G9 uses the full sensor there is no crop.
I mentioned that it doesn't have 24p in MOV or MP4, which are the files types everyone works in, much easier to work with. I mentioned AVCHD 1080p 24 in my previous video on this topic and why it's not a good recording format. And yes there is a crop but it's not terrible, the G80 has got a crop too but it hasn't affected my ability to create videos or do commercial work with, you just have to work with it 😊
Great insights, thank you. There is the obvious point, that the similar hardware in the more recently introduced G90, could benefit greatly from a future firmware update, which does beg the question of whether there are already people modding the new G9 firmware to work on the G90? Such as the XDA developers do for mobile phones, etc (admittedly, I’ve not been bothered enough to search. Nice as the G9 is, I’m not bothered with Video, at all, due to the time eating qualities of editing - and as an IT guy, the best decision I ever made, was avoiding programming like the plague- friends lost days and weeks on it, not just nights. As I’m more interested in Stills photography, especially monochrome, I’ve gone with a new G95 body and a couple of Lumix kit quality lenses for starters, and a couple of fast prime lenses - the lumix 25mm f 1.7, and likely going to add the lumix 42.5mm f1.7 as well. I’ll see how they work out for Astrophotography before adding more. As an aside, and something that may be useful for others, last night I discovered that Serif are doing a photo editing application that’s also for the iPad- called Affinity Photo, and it can do frame stacking- you can access their tutorials from within the app. At only £19.99 on the App Store, I picked it up, and for touchscreen use it looks to be far more ergonomic and usable than most apps I’ve seen for touchscreen use. I must confess to being a bit of a fanboi for Serif software due to being a custom computer builder for many years. A friend was using Serif DTP (Pageplus?) 40 ish years ago to produce a local newspaper, and I worked for her for a few weeks when she was short handed and after using it, was really impressed. I think I’ve bought every Software they’ve produced since and many of my customers started using Serif as well (I told them how to get the previous versions of software cheap to try them, and see how they got on with them, and to only upgrade if Serif gave them a special offer- happy customers). Thanks again for the insights, and best of luck.
Interesting but seams that generally who talks about g9 and g90 doesn't think about traveling photography, g90 seams to be better choices in terms of weight and space. I use now a gx80 and I'm really pleased with it but I'm thinking about to switchto g90 over g9 because of my photography style that needs to travel very light
Very good point there! Unfortunately I do not do much photography, so I didn't want to get into that part 🙈 really interesting to hear that you as a photographer will go for the G90, thank you for sharing bro!
Mario Carbone Not to put you off the G90, because the benefits aren’t insignificant, but I was very tempted to get a GX 9 instead of the G95 I’ve gone with. Weather and dust proofing for example. It’s the same sensor as G9, G90, GH5, etc, and may be worth a look?
I really appreciate your videos - great work.Question; Do you think that the G90 will ever have a firmware update so it will shoot .mov and be 10 bit like the G9 - still not convinced by G90 video as it is not Broadcast spec at 1920 - alot of aliasing too
There's nothing weird how Panasonic or any other camera manufacturer cleverly continue making cameras and you lot continue feeding their coffers. Take one egg: You can scramble it, boil it (hard, soft), fry it, poach it etc. Still the same egg, right?. It's called the art of selling you a product in many different forms. Money money money, Open your eyes people. I've used my main two cameras since 2014-2015 and they still give me exactly what I need: Samsung's NX500 & NX1, specially the NX1 which had all eggs put in its basket . No other manufacturer has ever dared to do that and I doubt they ever will...unless we force them of course.
I understand that! For sure! And those are two awesome camera! Shame that Samsung never updated them, imagine where their lineup would be now! We would probably see 10 bit and 120fps 1080p in their cameras, maybe even a full frame line up and more lenses!
@@Techkhamun Glad you know how good those cameras were (and still are, to me at least). Well, I can be certain had Samsung continued with their camera division, we would have had other manufactures trying to hopelessly catch up :)
Yes exactly! Sony have definitely pushed the market out of all the manufacturers in the right direction and I think the Panasonic GH5 was a game changer too, but I don't think Samsung really had their time to shine!
Thanks a lot for the info... I am looking to get into wedding filming and music videos on the side... Do recommend these or the gh5, considering the low bitrates. I need something i can really push in color crading... Thanks

You got to hate camera companies for segmenting their products this way.. does my head in trying to tally up the pros and cons in order to choose one over the other, then they update different things throwing everything my decision ahhhh
Great detailed information. Well done 👏 👏 👏. I've followed your coverage and reviews of these 2 cameras for a while now, mainly because these are the exact 2 cams I've been having a hard time on deciding which to go for. Although, using the info you gave in this video, I think the G90 may be the one to go for. I do videos exclusively and videos alone, no photography at all. Mostly shortfilms, narrative stuff and just a bit of events once in a while. But, one question about the recording limits on the G9, is it that you have to go press record again and again, every 10 minutes or it breaks the recording into multiple files of 10mins each. If it does not stop recording at the time limits but only just breaks into multiple 10min files, then it's absolutely not an issue as far as I'm concerned. Pls could you help clarify on this and thanks for the good work. 👍👍👍
Is the fact you have to press record again every 10 minutes so if you wanted to to record for 20-minutes you would have to press records halfway through again and thank you very much for those nice comments appreciate them 😊✌🏽
I don't understand why Panasonic keeping g9 from its full potential. I would buy this camera, yet now I'm waiting for xt4 cuz I know it will be camera without any software limitations. Still g9 i only one more update from making it a dream hybrid mft camera.
Because Panasonic need people to consider GH2 range still, if the make the G9 fully capable for all people, nobody will pay a bit more for the GH2. That's why Panasonic have ended up giving up on the G90/G95 now (stock is now no longer being supplier to retailers) as the G80/85 offers almost as much for a cheaper price, so few people upgraded to the G90/95.
I own a G9 and have a PL100-400mm lens. I wanted to record slow motion videos of Hummingbirds. Is the G90 better or can the G9 do the job? The lens was a big investment.
I can't decide between the G85, G95, or maybe G9. I'm not sure there is a noticeable upgrade in image between the G85 -95 (but can't really find any good information on this). The G9 is definitely better than the G85 visually, but its size, weight, and limited record times put me off. I would probably get the G95 except the 4K crop means it is unusable for Vlogging unless I buy a 9mm lens and put up with weird distortion and no good lens choice... If anyone can point me towards some good information let me know. I'm wondering if I should just get a TZ90 and call it good for video and buy a Fuji XT2 for some video and great photos. Don't suggest the G9 for photos, I think it will be boring and I will still want the Fuji.
@@maoraharon21 Yeah, I'm really regretting buying the XT4. The G9 was cheaper and has a greater range of lenses. The Fuji community is full of Elitist snobs, who insist on primes and say that the XT4 can't take good photos unless you have the pro lenses on it. I'm kind of wishing I'd got something cheap and cheerful like the G85, where I would have been constantly surprised by how good it was, instead of spending 3x the money to be constantly disappointed. Still, I could still sell it in a few months and get a Panasonic.
@@actstuntcam nah bro the xt-4 Is a beast of a camera. the snoobs can fuck off. you should keep it and make the best of it. a g85 would dissapoint you since you probably got used to the xt4 since it's much better in most areas.
