    Actually, your approach to shooting baskets applies to so much more (like musical instruments, riding a unicycle, physics, a second language, mathematics etc etc). You are a remarkable person because you point out the path to mastery!

    This drill improves all aspects of basketball not just shooting but dribbling, finishing, passing, everything.
    It was taught to me as a kid but slightly different. I was taught to go around the key and then step away from the basket half steps at a time until you reach the 3 pt. But the same thing, one hand and then two hands. Coach hopla adds the dribble into a shot as well which is great.
    As a kid I was able to shoot three pointers and deeper one handed without bending or stepping

    Look between your thumb and index finger of your shooting hand while gripping the ball before you shoot, there should be enough space so you see "Daylight". when you extend the thumb out far enough the ball should naturally be resting on your finger tips and pads. When the thumb comes in the ball is resting on your palm more.

    this is very well suited for an approach to practicing your shooting shot. but if you have a fundamental problem, it may not address it.
    "elbow going above the eyebrow" means little to me. it's all about the L shape, the followthrough, and having plenty of spin off the ball by using the right amount of power from your main fingers. (but these were my problems. i can only say that pro shot shooting system really helped me out in that regard. unfortunately, they deleted an older video which makes me sad because i can no longer reference it and help others)

      Honestly I’ve tried both during practice and what ends up happening in a game is that you do both, at an angle, straight towards the basket, and everything in between. I think if you get the upper body mastered(your shooting grip, guide hand, release, follow through, target etc..) the angle of the feet don’t matter. The role of the feet in the jump shot is to just adjust the body so that it can take the same shot it does when your practicing 2-4 ft away and when you’re on the move 15-20ft away. The upper mechanics stay the same, but the feet may set differently. Just focus on this drill, my coach taught me the same one but slightly different

      Dave always coached having your toes pointed at the basket.
      Some people swear by angling the feet at the FT line, but, in the end, it's whatever your most comfortable with.

    1. I see that when you are shooting in front of the hoop you are using the same form, that same power, but when you are further away from the hoop do you add additional power to the form and give power with your legs as well or do you just do the same amount of power with the form as if you were just in front of the ring and add the rest of the power from the legs as you get farther?

    • @JayIceColdD
      @JayIceColdD 3 года назад

      If I recall correctly, Dave just added power by bending his legs a little deeper and eventually jumping into a jump shot to add the power.

    • @JayIceColdD
      @JayIceColdD 3 года назад

      Read the basketball, fingers perpendicular to the stripes, hold it on the fingers and... "Other side" of the knuckles. Off-shooting hand does nothing but keep the ball from falling off the shooting hand and protect it from the defender.

      ***** I disagree Jake, Dave is a shooting guru. I think his stuff on shooting mechanics is dead on. + he's been the shooting coach for a number of NBA teams, incl. the Knicks.

    • @theartofcompetition5965
      @theartofcompetition5965 6 лет назад

      pro shot shooting studies players with imperfect forms. players that havnt studies shooting like hopla has. perhaps hoplas theory is better but in practice perhaps pro shot is better

    • @brianjhoneycutt
      @brianjhoneycutt 6 лет назад

      the thing with pro shot that doesn't make a lot of sense to me is how much they say sway is important. Yet, when several NBA players were interviewed by coach Nick of Bbalbreakdown, who also is very into sway, they all said that was something they didn't even realize they were doing until someone pointed it out to them. How important can it be to work on something that some great NBA shooters aren't even working on? Also, I watch things like 3 point contest in NBA which has no sway either and have to think that maybe guys like Hopla know what they are talking about. He did work with pro NBA teams after all...

    • @theartofcompetition5965
