I always found it funny how in original Gen 3 games, Groudon had a small piece of land while Kyogre has the entire ocean backing him up.
I know right? Their fight scene in that game places Groudon on the Hoenn Region's tiniest island, barely big enough to hold him, and Kyogre has so much ocean around him. I just remeber seeing that first time I played Sapphire and went "Yo, Groudon, maybe just say you're sorry or whatever 'cause I don't think you've got this fight."
@@FictionRaider007 This cutscene is in Emerald only. In Ruby/Sapphire you go inside a Cave of Origin and face Groudon/Kyogre there. Also if you played Ruby and Sapphire you know how hard it is to reach Rayquaza in it's tower compared to Emerald.

I always picture Groudon as the aggressive loud troublemaker, Kyogre as the one arguing too much and being a smartass, and Rayquaza as the big bro who’s just damn tired of both of em fighting constantly.

And Deoxes is the quiet one who when he gets involved goes to the kitchen and grabs a knife
Emerald and co. were my first Pokémon games as a child, and to this day I remember the goofy ass scooting kyogre and groudon do after rayquaza scolds them.
Truly a core memory.
They were literally facing each other down and Rayquaza just gently floats down yells at both of them and the world ending disaster is over.
If anyone is wondering no the above links are not two cats fighting on a lap.

Love how we went from a complicated legendary family issue in Gen 3 to the literal Pokemon Gods of the Universe in Gen 4
Yeah, to much up scale. I said to the reason I like this game is because the forces of nature and wildlife are the theme still, and being the vary best. Literally every type of science fiction thing has always been in Pokémon but I always saw that as the center aspect.
Complicated? As much as I like the gen 4 legendaries, Gamefreak really did go too powerful of concepts for that game
By the time they got to gen 3, GameFreak already covered most of the nature-based concepts. They even had a time traveller in Celebi and an alien virus in Deoxys. After that they had to shift to a more spiritual approach to their legendaires... So they chose religion for gen 4, which is a great transition to the later games where they had a spiritual/folkloric approach until gen 7.
Gen 8 and 9 legendaries feel like spin off additions lol

The relationship of the Hoenn legends has always been one of my favourites, most legends are noble massive beasts who are all fancy and these 2 are just a fish and a lizard throwing hands with their dragon babysitter putting them in timeout.
I was expecting after Rayquaza went away that they'd primal evolve while shouting/argueing with eachother😂
The voice acting in this is actually so good. Everyone is sleeping on how well done that Groudon is I’m sold.
The interaction of the Hoenn legendaries will always be my favorite. They had a believable struggle that put them at odds with each other, and the stakes were high without being “10,000 years of dahkness!” Rediculous.
Same especially as it was such a new and cool concept in Pokémon games. In the previous gens the legendaries were super powerful Pokémon who just sat in caves doing nothing.
Yet ruby/sapphire made it far more intense plus the fact they were sealed away added to their mystery and allure.
Don't let this distract you from Reyquaza's aggression to Deoxys for entering the atmosphere.

Groudon and Kyogre are basically little kids and Rayquaza is the babysitter trying to prevent them from causing chaos.
Rayquaza really the mvp. He keeps the world safe from extraterrestrial attacks and scolds his younger siblings to prevent the end of the world for god knows how long and he has not yet snapped.

As an oldest child, this feels way too accurate. Funny enough it actually matches the three: Rayquaza is my favorite, the middle prefers Kyogre, and the youngest likes Groudon.

This is exactly how pixelmon went for me. I got rayquaza, one of my friends got kyogre, and the other got Groudon. It was a bit flipped since the Groudon guy was being annoying, but pretty much the same. And then I had to stop them from blowing up the world
Groudon is definetly the younger sibling like bro can't stop whining for three seconds just because kyogre splashed some water in his eyes so he causes a natural disaster to get back at him

the legendaries can and some mythicals , they can communicate telepathically or verbally, some unusually smart pokemons can also learn to talk, that can happen with individuals of a certain species or just straight up entire populations of them

So Rayquaza being super OP is necessary, given lore. Kyogre and Groudon are primordial forces of nature capable of literally ending the world, Rayquaza needs to have some muscle for them to listen to it. Or maybe Rayquaza is just their dad, and is OP because Game Freak said so.
If Groudon and Kyogre’s disastrous conflict was as adorable as this, I would instigate a feud every chance I got.
If I was Rayquaza, I'd grab them both, bring them high into the sky, look at them, and simply say:
"You know, I don't think either of you understand the GRAVITY of the situation your conflict is making."

We can spend an eternity discussing on which Gen is the best one, but do we all agree that these three to this day still have THE best design for a Legendary Pokemon?
(For the record, i do agree there are many very close seconds. But i think these still take the top spot)
You know this is how we tend to see it. Personally I just imagine they do this to get Team Aqua and Magma to leave them the heck alone. They definitely have average sibling squabbles, which are basically normal tsunamis and earthquakes, but other than that I imagine they get along decently. Rayquaza is mostly that older brother who ensures the sibling fights don't get out of hand, but is 100% on board with messing with the humans.
They never let it go overboard, at least not normally. The Primal forms are a bit more unhinged and actually concerning, but again, Rayquaza (being older brother) deals with it and makes sure things don't end badly.
Plus, while sand castles and water don't work well together, you can make moats for a sand castle. It's weird how earth and water work together in some ways and against each other in other ways.
But overall: they're siblings. They're friends sometimes and other times they have their classic sibling moments. Rayquaza is the older sibling who keeps the other two in check.
Every other legendary: We vibin with the 3rd legendary in the distance. Except the unova dragon trio they always at each others throats
The thought that Rayquaza would just settle the argument and not mutilate them is ludicrous

I find it funny how Kyogre never mentioned the fact that erupting volcanoes keep making new landmasses, which in turn, encroaches on his territory.
So yeah... Kyogre keeps eroding Groudon's lands. Groudon keeps burying Kyogre's oceans beneath his landmasses (burying water, now THAT'S an interesting concept). And Rayquaza is caught in the middle.
At least until Deoxys shows up. 😅

Meanwhile Kyogre can easily one shot groudon with either surf or origin pulse cuz it's super effective with 150 sp atk.

The craziest thing is that battle had them appear to fight on equal terms. Kyogre had the surrounding ocean, rain, and type advantage, but Groudon was still fighting on Kyogre's level. Kyogre needed those advantages to just match Groudon in power.
Sorta matches this argument, in a way. Kyogre needs all the dirt he can get on Groudon.
Your analogy at the end doesn't really fit as in this Kyogre doesn't need the dirt he appears more to be trolling Groudon.
His insults seem to hit a lot more (the sediment one for example) and the fact he literally started this argument for no reason other than to fuck with him. I like Kyogre but he's definitely the instigator and a bit of a dick in this skit lol

The best thing about Kyogre is that he's based on a whale, a creature whose ancestors tried out life on land and basically said "f*ck it, I'm going back." He doesn't hate the land because it's some newfangled thing. His hates stems from generational hatred.
Meanwhile, Groudon's ancestors stuck it out, went goth, then post-goth, and now hate everything old, including the sea.
