That's exactly what I thought. At first I was like "How does it prevent the stealing" and then I understood that it's just a pin along with a rubbish 3 digit lock.
When it is attached, the tank bag can't be removed. I think the spring cable is used for avoiding to misplace the padlock, i just got rid of it.. it looks more neat and much easier to use without the cable.
@@riscapade you can use this spring cable to attach helmet to the motorbike while padlock is hooked to the tank bag. Spring is not strong and can be cut easily but better than nothing.
Drilled and fitted the pin today. I also chopped off the coil on the padlock.

How about just buying/using a mini-padlock and a pin or bolt, both for $5? Same concept but much less expensive.
