- Team GB's Max Whitlock retained his Olympic title on the pommel horse Sunday (1 August), besting rival LEE Chih-kai of Chinese Taipei, 15.583 to 15.400. Japan's KAYA Kazuma was the bronze medallist, scoring 14.900. Whitlock is the first man in 41 years to repeat as Olympic champion on the event, after Zoltan Magyar won in 1976 and 1980.
Ireland's Rhys McClenaghan, the 2019 world bronze medallist, was seeking a historic medal in the final but slipped off the horse early in his routine. He finished seventh.
For Whitlock, the win completes a five-year period of domination on the event. Since Rio, he has picked up two world titles (2017, 2019) and a silver medal in 2018. He was European champion in 2019. _____________________________________________________

Thank you
Lee Chi Kai's routine with all these flairs was so exciting...
he shd have won the gold
definitely deserve 0.3 higher E score than Maz
@@francischo8891 it’s max btw and this is maxes 3rd gold medal in a row and he deserved it. He has always been hard to beat on the pommel horse.
But Lee's routine is too short, only 40 seconds. Max's routine has 48 seconds. And that's one reason why Max wins gold medal.
@@r881011 that has nothing to do with it😭Kai’s routine is just so much cleaner he was to bed
Max’s was technically harder and more varied so he deserved the win.
My heart broke for Rhys. But this is his first Olympics and he'll be back around by 2024 to try it all again!
Thank you for uploading! Thanks for keeping the medal ceremony and anthem in too!
Lee chi Kai had a difficulty level of.3 less than Whitlock. The flairs are more spectacular but Kai had fewer strength elements
Thanks you !
The fact I was bricking it for Max the whole way was quite the thing! I was like "Rhys is so good, oh gosh he could beat Max" I admittedly was heartbroken for Rhys but I thought "that's such a shame, I don't think he'll get enough of a score to beat Max" I kept going completely slightly hyperventilating every time a new opponent came on. The delight I had when it was confirmed I was so happy for Max!!!!
Li kai chi was superb
連覇おめでとうございます。
Not trying to sound salty but i thought Lee Chih Kai's routine was better than Whitlocks
Even tho Whitlock had a higher D score the Execution didnt look great and that 8.5 seemed a bit generous
Agreed!
Yeah Whitlock is always getting away with gold medals....
@I am from California even though Taiwan cannot be recognized as a country, we still can train athletes pretty well and win Olympic medals ! this cannot be denied 🙃
@I am from California Even in Stuttgart, I would argue he deserved that medal more than LeeCK
It should have been a 8.1-8.2 E score for max and LCK shd win the gold
Спорт, это то лучшее, что придумало человечество!!!

Max Whitlock what a man🤩🤩🤩
عرض ممتاز يظهر مهارات جيدة
Bravo max
Can someone explain why difficulty score of Whitlock was higher than Kai?
The skills max did was more strength demanding and harder to do
❤️
Love my Country!!!! 🇬🇧❤️
I KNOW!
Max Whitlock is awesome. 3 times Gold Olympic champion
@@matheusborges9341 And very handsome lol!!!!
I’m also from GB 🇬🇧 ❤️
I just don’t understand how max has beat lee chi kai AGAIN😭lee chi Kai is so clearly better to me but whatever
So well deserved Max!
I’m too high to be watching this. How can people move their bodies like that.
That’s decades of dedication and hard work.
All right, British Artistic Gymnast Max Whitlock! 🇬🇧🥇
Well, he's not that good in my eyes. Isn't he retiring?
@@vjazz Well let's find out.
@@vjazz a gold medal says otherwise😂 and of course he is he has been in the Olympics since he was 19 and now he is 28. He has never not won a medal for the pommel horse.
lee chi kai is amazing. He should have won the gold medal. The British is not as good.
AGREE
- From Taiwan
Disagree, Max’s difficult was very high so he starts from a higher score and he didn’t leg break in this routine
@@dijay8822 it shd have been a mere 8.1-8.2 E score for max
@@francischo8891 why?
YES MAX 🥇X2 O C

ВоАлейкум ассалом аз Точикистон.
Interesting debate on Max vs Lee Chih Kai - pretty certain spindles (flairs) have been downgraded in their difficulty from when they first appeared on the scene. Last Sunday at the 2024 Baku World Cup Stephen Nedoroscik matched Lee in both D and E but their styles looked very different. They both hit their respective sets for 15.4 and both awarded gold medals.
Max❤
👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Max's toes are almost vertical. The E score is close to fraud
Almost everyone here says that Lee Chih Kai was the best. So I think this is the truth. He deserved the gold medal. Kameyama Kohei was great too.
Could’ve seen Rhys walk home with silver if it wasn’t for the fall. Poor lad. I’m sure he’ll smash it in 2024
Just look at Max’s reaction when Lee was doing his routine and you will know who is deserving the gold medal 😉
Max won gold, cry more
@@DavieD609 so let me get this straight, every time you see someone complain about the scoring, you respond like this. If you don't, you are being a hypocrite.
Max at 17:40 with the same expression after watching Belyavski lose to him by 0.75...
I just want to ask, were there any Chinese judges? Definitely screwed the Taiwanese gymnast who should have scored higher execution.
Or Max should have got a 8.1-8.2
E score
Bruv their not allowed to have judges from the same country as any of the gymnasts judging the final im pretty sure
@@danw6109 good thing china and taiwan are separate countries
@@lladoandy DO you not get my point
Since Sun Wei (CHN) was in the final they cant have any Chinese judges as well as Taiwanese, British, Russian and whoever was in the final
All R WINNERS
I think Lee Jie Kai deserved the gold medal better. His move is more beautiful an creative.
They insert wrong athlete for the countdown of bronze medal, should be Kaya Kazuma instead of Kameyama Kohei.
Why?
@@silentangel221 should ask the OBS
No debió haber ganado el británico muy generosa su puntuación, debió ganar el Japonés o el Taiwanés
Max was extremely overscored
Lucky Max that Rhys was unfortunate
17:42

Alex yoder is handsome
التايواني افضل
😂
Tbh, I think Chuck Norris should have won!

Gymkata
Lee was robbed of gold😢 because he's from ASEAN
What? Max had a higher D score and has great execution 2x pommel champ 🥇
Do the judges consider the fact that a low score given to a CCP contestant will result in that contestant being beaten senseless when the go home to China?
Whitlock too overscored. He deserved silver
No Whitlock had a higher difficulty than the second place and lost 0.2 more in execution. He got the well deserved gold and there is no bias
@@dijay8822 Max shd have lose the E score by 0.3
@@francischo8891 why?
@@dijay8822 coz the height of his legs and the angle are not as good as lee's. lee's thomas rotate deserves 0.3 higher E scores than max
@@francischo8891 he would have got the deduction for that anyway. The difficulty is why max won here. In qualification and team finals max got 14.9 and that was without full difficulty. In terms of keeping his legs together max did well in this. The 2nd place guy did very well but his difficulty wasn’t as high as flairs are impressive but it doesn’t necessarily mean you will get a higher difficulty. If max and the 2nd place gymnast got the same score then max would be in second because the tie break goes by who has the highest execution
Cause he is ASEAN. that's explain everything.end of discussion
براوووو، bravoooooo👍🙏🌹
It’s not because he’s Asian, his d-score wasn’t high enough, stop looking for ways to justify a score. Asian gymnasts dominate the table every time, so how’s that excuse working?
