Pound in most Romance languages mean “Libra”, so, I believe however created this abbreviation had the latin word in mind... Or he just wanted people to get even more confused with this nonsense system By; metric system gang
It comes from the latin libra pondo. The weird part is that English kept both parts of the word, but only abbreviated the libra part, while only using pondo (pound) while speaking normally
For those of you who were curious what "Libra" means in Latin, it means "balance." That explains why the word was used for the abbreviation of pounds, and it also explains the zodiac sign Libra ♎️

Lb is an abbreviation of the Latin word libra. The primary meaning of libra was balance or scales (as in the astrological sign), but it also stood for the ancient Roman unit of measure libra pondo, meaning “a pound by weight.” We got the word “pound” in English from the pondo part of the libra pondo but our abbreviation comes from the libra. The libra is also why the symbol for the British pound is £-an L with a line through it. The Italian lira also used that symbol (with two lines through it), the word “lira” itself being a shortened version of libra.

Update from the side of the world that no one really cares about... Australia is still on fire, some parts are flooding and some parts are both. Most of the country is also still in drought and people arent allowed to wash cars, hose gardens or do more than (I think) 6 loads of washing a week. Best part is that it's been around 3 months since the air quality has been better than "hazardous".

As many people have already pointed out, lb stands for "libra", which means "balance" or "scale" in Latin. As in the scales to measure weight.
A lot of English abbreviations are actually Latin! I never understood why the abbreviation for "that means"/"that is" is "i.e." until I found out that it stands for "id est" ("that is" in Latin)! And "e.g." stands for "exempli gratia" ("for example" in Latin).
I've seen "1917" and it was absolutely phenomenal.
Cant count your bread when youre dead, explains Ice Cube.
Actually, my grandfather was left handed, went to school, the teachers thought it was a sign of the devil, and he was forced to use it right had for everything.

Lb is an abbreviation of the Latin word libra. The primary meaning of libra was balance or scales (as in the astrological sign), but it also stood for the ancient Roman unit of measure libra pondo, meaning “a pound by weight.”
6:00 the flooding in australia is a big deal because a lot of the ash contaminates river water now

"Where is New Zealand"
Jokes on you, I live in New Zealand.
The form lb is actually an abbreviation of the Latin word libra, which could mean a pound, itself a shortened form of the full expression, libra pondo, “pound weight”. The second word of this phrase, by the way, is the origin of the English pound.

If that dude was scared of that hamburguer pizza, then he would have a stroke if he ever tried to eat pizza in Brazil
We have two things in common
1) we are left handed

For those wondering, lbs is short for pounds because of the Latin phrase libra pondo; meaning pound weight.
The second one was the flag of the Kingdom of Two Scillies, a union of Sicily and Naples.
I just saw the movie 1917. Won’t spoil anything, all I’ll say is that it’s quite different from your normal war movie. Much less fighting and much more running. Doesn’t make it bad (makes it great), just different.
I asked my social studies teacher if anybody expected the Spanish Inquisition.

Pounds and "lbs" both come from the roman language, where they said "libra poundo".
The lbs is probably used because in french, italian and spanish the word used comes from the libra part, hence the abbreviation.
Pounds is "livre", "libbra" and "libra" in theses 3 languages respectively.

What is your point
Left handed people was seen is being evil because Left in Latin is sinister.
That is why they thought left handed people were evil. Also that is why the Green Lantern villain Sinestro wears his ring on his left hand.
Dexterous comes from the Latin word dexter which means right.
So ambidextrous means two right hands basically.
