Heretic II is a dark fantasy action-adventure game developed by Raven Software and published by Activision in 1998 continuing the story of Corvus, the main character from its predecessor, Heretic. It is the fourth game in the Hexen: Beyond Heretic series and comes after the "Serpent Rider" trilogy. Although Id Software owns the publishing rights to the previous titles, Heretic 2 is owned by Activision since they own Raven Software and its IPs.
Using a modified Quake II engine, the game features a mix of a third-person camera with a first-person shooter's action, making for a new gaming experience at the time. While progressive, this was a controversial design decision among fans of the original game, a well-known first-person shooter built on the Doom engine. The music was composed by Kevin Schilder. Gerald Brom contributed conceptual work to characters and creatures for the game.This is the only Heretic/Hexen video game that is unrelated to id Software, apart from its role as engine licenser.
Heretic II was later ported to Linux by Loki Software, to the Amiga by Hyperion Entertainment, and Macintosh by MacPlay.

the nostalgia I had a demo of this game kept crashing but I kept playing it, loved Herectic one.
Yea.. I played the demo too. I was so into it. oh I thought it was my low memory system , which is why it was crashing . I was playing on a 128mb P4 system.
I've been looking for this game for actual years, because I had a demo disc as well. The disc came from my mom's mobile phone provider named LOOP, which made it so hard to find or remember the game again

Same. It came in a magazine and I was so hooked on it.
This game is a masterpiece. Especially on a technical level. It still looks crisp as it did day one. It still runs great. And the controls are as fluid as ever.
It had best controls and animations for all games of that era. Controls on Tomb Raider 1 even 2 are shit compared to Heretic 2.

@@charon7320 But does it work on the current OS? Lots of issues. Remake or remastered version if made well would be wonderful. Btw, I am an old school gamer and old anime lover. So I kinda like it as it is. If upscaled to the current settings with no bugs then it's okay
@@Kapt_Klaw there are versions out there that work, user made. remastered versions are made for money and end up with a different taste of the game regardless, past 20 years have shown every face of this. if you like something from that particular time, you are not alone, there is a huge community for heretic/doom with working versions on today's OS.

My dad used to play this game for like hours after he gets back from work when it was first released and I can understand why. Its probably the reason I have a weakness towards RPGs rip
As someone who's played and beaten Heretic, Hexen, and Hexen II, I never knew this game even existed. My mind is blown. One more game to add to my back catalog.

Good game, not a great video though. You don't showcase the staff combat at all.
Kind of looks like medieval tomb raider.
I was wondering why they keep shooting the barrels and trying to pick up potions, then I noticed the tiny, tiny completely unreadable HUD in the bottom corners. This game was made when people who weren't graphic designers were running at 1024x768 or below. I guess there is more to re-releasing old games, at least if people wish to enjoy them at higher resolutions where this stuff becomes impossible to read.
I think they have patches that will fix the small HUD for modern display resolutions.

Heretic should have stayed a FPS IMO. It would have gotten a lot more attention like Doom and survived today. They reinvented the wheel for some reason. Original Heretic was fun as hell just like a mideval Doom. Imagine that game like Doom Eternal now.
This is one of the best 3rd person action/adventure games ever though. We already have Hexen 1 & 2. I agree with you that they're the greatest FPS games ever made but this game is astonishing in and of itself.
