- This is the GloFish® 3 Gallon Betta Aquarium Kit unboxing and review video. I paid $30.00 for this tank at Petsmart as it was on sale from $59.99. I actually like this tank, it is all glass, has a lid and nice light. The filter could be better but does have a clean look.

I wouldn’t be concerned about the cancer warning. That’s due to California proposition 65. A chemical only needs a 1 in a 100,000 chance of upping your risk for cancer for them to have to put that label on it. If you really pay attention to packaging you’ll notice it on a lot of things. Bags of charcoal, frozen fried foods, coffee, laundry detergent, I’ve seen it posted at parking garages, and even plumbing supplies like copper pipe and pvc.
EDIT: I just remembered I’ve seen it on water filters (I.e. Brita pitchers) and they have them on there. I looked into it and it was because activated carbon can leach trace amounts of arsenic. So, yeah, that label is probably just because of the filter cartridge
Thanks for the explanation! I was really worried as its the second time I've seen this before. Sadly I dont pay enough attention to labels/packaging as I do with my reviews..so I never noticed it before.. kinda like how I ignore child choking hazards as there are no kids in my house...so it does not apply to me.
It's cuase of rat test.rats are just prone to cancer so that chance could also just be a rat developing cancer during testing simply from being a rat.
Yeah, everything made nowadays is required by California to have that 'warning' no matter how impossibly tiny the risk is. Now that the warning is required on absolutely everything, the warning has become meaningless.
these warnings are on every drive thru and restaurant. thats just how it is here lol.
As someone who has really started to dislike aquariums with artificial decor, this one is pretty nice and it seems to be a really encouraging (and healthy) setup, so props to the company and you for providing a good video!
Nice review ! This is interesting of you want to know more about Glo Fish: These fish are not the result of selective breeding but have been genetically engineered. They have been genetically modified at a DNA level by inserting a fluorescent gene (isolated from a jelly fish) in the Betta genome using molecular techniques (likely injection of a blastocyst with a construct of interest and insertion in the genome by homologues recombination) in the laboratory to create a stable genotype which can be bred for a heritable trait.I find it very interesting to read all the discussions on the Glofish Betta. It is good to see that everybody has his/own opinion on this matter.
It does surprise me though to read that people are comparing these Glofish to the origin of the many varieties in color and form we have achieved in our showbetta by selective breeding.
Personally I do not agree with this view. The many color and form varieties we know today in our showbetta are the result of selective breeding using the available gene pool of the species. They came to be by selecting & breeding for the desired phenotypical traits. Off course not all varieties are equally nice or desired. But all these varieties including the extremes have been the result of using the gene pool of the species by naturally breeding & selecting.
Unlike some other species, Betta do not have natural fluorescence nor the genes to do so. This means that by no means you can achiveve a Glofish Betta by selective breeding as there is no trait in the genome of the fish to select for! Glofish Bettas came to be by genetic modification at a DNA level by inserting a fluorescent gene (isolated from a jelly fish) in the Betta genome using molecular techniques (likely injection of a blastocyst with a construct of interest and insertion in the genome by homologues recombination) in the laboratory to create a stable genotype which can be bred for a heritable trait.
Food for thought....where do we draw the limit? Keep in mind that this technique can be easily applied to a variety of species in the laboratory. So what is next in line? Pet shops/companies selling fluorescent (GMO) dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, because they look cool? As I have stated already above I personally I think this technique should not be allowed to be applied outside the laboratory and for scientific purposes only under strict regulations.
When something is possible it does not always mean that you should....(feel free to think otherwise 😉.)
This is from a show betta breeder and is 100% true
but could we make ME glow
I VEHEMENTLY AGREE

Name Idea: Is The Tank Betta?
At Wal-Mart that have a 5 gallon kit that is 27$ and its much better!!!
What's the name of the kit? I want to check it out
Wal-Mart's kit is "Marineland Portrait Glass LED aquarium Kit, 5 Gallons", if you watch it in your local store it goes on sale. It looks like the exact same tank.
@@jonathankerbs8110 no... Its aqueon 5 gallon starter kit...stop making stuff up!!!!
my sister has the aqua culture brand of 5 gallon from walmart lol
@@batta1on163 Not every Walmart carries the same brand at every Walmart. I purchased the Tetra 5 gallon glofish kit at the one close to me. Full rectangle w/hood. 40 bucks.
I just like that it has a black background without me having to paint it
That's a good review😀
But im not a fan of glowfish.. or glow tanks.
Bettas also dont really like a lot of light especially those blue one's
I prefer non glo bettas as well although I was curious to at least give them a chance and see what they are all about.
@@CreativePetKeeping but remember with only what it comes with it is better than a bowl and a bad fish keeper is more likely to bye this over a bowl
I have a 10 gallon tank that I converted into a GloFish tank just for the Betta! I was excited to see them come out. I found a blue LED strip for the hood and it works amazing, it's waterproof and makes it glow. Almost 2 weeks in now with my baby girl Cora 😊 I use sponge filters that I get on Amazon, they have really small ones too!
Hi Kasia. I bought the GloFish 5 gallon Portrait tank. I used your idea for attaching the sponge. The tank is so much calmer. Thank you. ☺
Always love your videos! I laughed soo hard at the coloured gravel therapy session
I'm glad you liked it! ❤
I bought a 5 gallon one which is way different that that one. Same brand etc. and it’s perfect and nothing wrong I’ve had my fish for a few years it’s well made.
Do you mind sharing where you got that sponge? We just bought this tank for my son's birthday and are trying to figure out how to not have such a harsh flow! Thank you in advance! Nice review!
💜*NOTE- the light is actually not UV..its just blue LED*💜

I have this tank, for me it’s beenvery hard to heat to the correct temperature. I can’t get it over 75 cosistantly
Creative Pet Keeping realistically please review the body lines of the glow betta. As far as I can tell by the pictures and ones I have seen they have some very messy heads
I love this series
Picked one up today. Not for the glo part but for the full glass tank. Perfect for a lil nano scape
While I'm not a fan of my wife's glo-fish danios and tetras aquarium, I must say the odds of seeing a glo-fish betta in a 15 gallon otherwise natural biotope is nearly 100%. The betta was literally born to shine!
I’ve been through 2 glo betta males. They were both babies. I did everything by the book and have raised many babies. Cycled 5.5 gallon, live plants, driftwood, heated. Both I had less than a week at different times before someone thinks they were together. The first one passed away randomly. The second caught Columnaris. I think they’re too fragile at the age they’re being sold at right now. I’m waiting until they grow up a little bit to get another. Premium males cost too much and I’m not about it. Also, I had a mental breakdown as soon as I saw the gravel. 😂 love you Kasia. ❤️
Very nice! I got mine the day they came out and to alter the flow all I did was disconnect the pump at the top, so it sort of pumps water towards the output instead of having it directly connected. It works well. I also noticed as I was taking it apart to move it that there is actually a hidden bio sponge under the filter cartridge. I moved my glo betta out of it though because he won't eat anything except live foods and I didn't want them in that tank so right now, so I moved him to a 20l with some other fish that I have a colony of black worms in, and I Regularly feed subadult and adult brine shrimp until I get him on pellets. I noticed mine also had a minor spinal deformity after I purchased it, but he's growing pretty fast now and it doesn't seem to affect him.
I should have investigated the back more..I had no clue there was an extra sponge! Thanks for pointing that out and the idea to disconnect the tube.
I kinda wish these tanks didn't require little diy hacks to make them work better... all they needed to do was have some hobbyists test them and provide feedback and their products could have been so much better
@@CreativePetKeeping I feel the same way but Tetra should know better. I sort of like that the sponge is hidden though because a lot of consumers when they clean the tank would clean that that out as well (or try replacing it periodically) and throw their cycle off, so it being hidden was certainly a welcome surprise! I was considering putting ceramic rings behind it, but after I discovered that I decided against it.
As soon as I read this I went and looked. Yup a hidden sponge. Why wouldn't they tell you this? I actually cleaned it, it was filthy (cleaned with conditioned tap water). Thanks!
@@JohnFeltes I saw a video where the person added the ceramic rings as an added protection and boost to the filtration. I'm actually going to do it as well.
The nerds gravel 😂
Fyi.. You can adjust the flow. Take the pump out. It is suctioned to the bottom. Move the lever from the default stronger flow to a more gentle flow. You do not need the sponge. This is a great aquarium that's very beautiful. It is an obvious dupe of the Marineland aquariums. Great dupe!
Hi. When I adjusted the flow to the lowest setting my betta was still stressed. He's happier now that I put the sponge on the output to calm the flow. I guess it all depends on the personality of the betta. Some are hardier and playful and like the harder flow.
I got a tank that has some what same design but still different with the filter. I re model it little by adding heater in back with more bio surface by adding some sponge filter in pieces. For better filter.
Call the series “ Betta be good!”
My kids and I looked at the glo bettas in the store. The kids referred to them as "zombie bettas". They were mostly neon yellow, in or out of the glo light. Might be fun, but the males were $30, the females $15 or $20. Not a bad tank, not the greatest. Could be customized to use regular bio balls and some sponge over the filter intake.
How did you do this customization. I've been interested in improving the filter. Thanks.
I just got two of these and I love them..I have live plants with my Betta boys but my filter turns down really low so the fact that yours doesn't makes me think you have a defective tank..love your videos!
Betta or Bettanot review series 😂😭 that's the best I got LOL
Oooo thats pretty good!!
Love the review. I personally think the tank isn’t too bad either, but for that price... yeah no! Also, as far as I’ve been told, GloBettas are just genetically modified to glow the way they do from when they were eggs or something. And I think it’s actually illegal to breed them.
WHAT? THERE ARE GLO BETTAS NOW?! this is the perfect fish for my nephew who loves glo fish and bettas
this glo thing is so bad becouse if you are breeding them glo will go on babies and glo make betta live less time like this betta can live 2 years or less this is not good for fish
Ignore the above ^
There is literally no evidence of this.
@@gem9535 you will see
It is illegal to breed them. Glo fish have a patent on their fish and can and will sue you.
@@tijan7376 Okay, Grim Reaper. When the apocalypse comes, when the Glo bettas block the sunshine, I will remember your grave warning of the worst to come XD
I know it's not a natural Tank but the tank looks really good
I have colorful gravel mixed with black gravel in my 20 gallon top fin aquarium
Loved the video! Thanks for walking us through the gravel 😂😂💜💕💙
😅💙
Just wanted to say thanks and that I'm gonna steal your idea of slowing the water flow. I've been trying to find out a good way to slow the flow down on my 30 litre (8 gallon) betta tank because I feel like the flow was just a little to fast
Btw there's no UV lights. It's just blue leds.
Also glofish has a different gravel where there's mostly black rocks with specs of neon colors mixed in. I think that one is easier on the eyes as not the whole bottom is glowing.
I saw those at petsmart, they are a nice alternative
I had no idea they had Glofish bettas... I kind of want one? But I won't be using their tanks. I already have two and one is empty. I'll just get the light.
I think normal tanks plus light are a better cost affective option
Hey Kasia! Thanks for another awesome video ♡ I love your content so much!
How do I lower the pump flow? It’s very strong
Hey Creative Pet Keeping! Can you review the aqueon minibow 5 gallon fish tank? I'd appreciate it since thats the one i have for my betta and i really hope it's good!
Can we have more info on the useless section please 👀
They just said you can by their glo fish gravel, glo fish food, glo fish decor, glo fish water conditioner in that section
I got a similar tank for my Plakat Betta. It flows a little too fast for me as well but he's a slick guy, not a frilly guy so he seems to be ok with it. He grabs on his Anubias and naps so I think it's fine.
If u put a sponge over it. It will buffer the flow, even though ur betta is doing fine..might be worth trying to see if he likes it 😃
@@CreativePetKeeping Yea I liked that little tip. I think I will give it a try.
This tank is the exact same as the Marineland, I really do enjoy the tank I think it is well made
It is the same. The box is just rebranded to glofish brand. If u look at the Amazon product manufacturer video for Marineland contour 3gallon, they even mention adding glofish lol.
That was my initial reaction too. Looks just like the Marineland 3 gallon
That was my initial reaction too. Looks just like the Marineland 3 gallon
LMAO that part when u say to relax when ur using colourful gravel ahahha ur so entertaining im subbing gurl😼😼
If you read into the nitrate testing kit by API it states that it can cause birth defects also!
Its crazy.
Betta Tank Kit Rewiews: To Yeet or Not To Yeet
i saw glo bettas at the pet store yesterday and i didn’t know if they were bettas cause i didn’t have time to read it but i realized they were in betta jars and the glofish were in big tanks but now i know they are bettas
The fish would of have enjoyed the current to swim in. And the breaking of surface tension helps with gas exchange and keeping your tank from being stagnant.
The pump dies after 6 months. Trying to figure out how to replace filter.
In all honesty I just wanna see someone modify this into a pico reef tank
So my betta keeps hanging out by the intake filter and her fins seemed pinned to it. How do we stop this from happening? Will the sponge on the end of the filtered water coming in also slow the pull of the water to be filtered? That’s my concern after 12 hours of having the betta in this tank. Also, whether I need extra lights to support plant growth
Not everyone has to like the gravel you like. If you are happy with it and like it that’s what matters
This tank is on sale for $35 at PetSmart right now to promote glofish betta but you can use it for any betta. It's an amazing tank for the price right now.
can i use this tank for a regular betta?
I CAN’T THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS WHILE BARF GRAVEL IS BEING ADDED!!! AHHHHHH
Exactly lol. She should have gotten the black one
Cute tank. I would buy it on sale simply for the lid! Not sure I would pay $60 for it though. Will I loose my fishkeeper card if I get a betta glofish? LOL. I'm considering it.
A fish is a fish ...so if you want a glo betta. Go for it! They are kinda cool..I definently understand the appeal. 😉👍
“Creative Pet Keeping It Real Reviews”
As a 3 gallon tank should I subtract living/swimming space do the built-in filter? I know the answer is probably yes. I like the look, but don't want my betta to live in a smaller aquarium of only 2.6 just for the convenience of a built in filter.
Is it okay that the filter and the electrical cord is under water in the back of the tank? Just seems a little concerning. I have this tank and just put it together the other day.
I love the Gravel, many, do👍
You may not be old enough to know about it, but I will have the yellow submarine song stuck in my head all day. I like it, my children don't.
Lol 😋
Awesome review!!! Thank you for taking the time.
Got the bigger version of this tank for my betta, first thing I did was throw away everything but the filter
I love your shirt
I just have a small beta tank can I just use it for a beta or a gold fish
This tank is literally identical to the Marineland Portrait glass 3/5g kits. ...did glofish rip them off or are they the same company?
Licensing possibly!
yessss please talk about glo-bettas! there is so much misinformation around glo-fish
I hope to clear some misconceptions as I do more and more research ^_^
Thanks for your review, I'm a beginner and help me a lot 😀🙏🏻
I suppose I can let this tank decor slide... but only because your other tanks are beautiful.
Hehe I definetly prefer natural themed tanks
I feel like anyone interested in owning a glo-fish of any kind is going to be more attracted to that garish, neon, glow-in-the-dark type of gravel anyway, right? If you buy glo-fish I can't see doing a nice, natural river or black water scape to go along with them?
They DO make black gravel w the once in a while glowy gravel! They arent too garish but it looks a bit better!
Glow fish is cruelty itself. Bettas are no decoration, nor are they a toy! It’s not appropriate! But in Germany we sometimes use this tanks to treat sick fish. We always put the heater in the back. Why not? It’s logical, that you unplug the tank, when you clean it, because you also need to clean the back.
How does the filtration work????
Would buy this as a nano tank... but not for a dang globetta my gosh
Can glow bettas live with other fish
Optional Stand, I like I always hated those ones that curve inwards like that. Makes me feel uneasy.
Filter, looks very easily customizable for anyone who knows what they're doing... ?Never seen a betta have flow issues
Light... Okay I can live with that looks better than the avg kit light
Lid, I STRONGLY dislike these solid pane glass lids, like seriously can we get ONE tank kit with a hinged lid?
A Good size and it can fit the heater in the pump? This tank is great for newbies and its finally a suitable tank thats advertised to beginners. Sure it has a few issues personally for me but its got a lot of what people look for.
Berta’s just don’t like a strong flow of water
Hey can it be filled half way
Should we quarantine betta fish from cups
Lowkey in that tank a nice scape galaxy betta and trio of pygmy cories yasss
Great video, nice little tank. New subscriber here from the UK
Lost it with the barf gravel. i dont car how many times you say aquascape or live plants. I feel unsafe.
I don't get the fascination with the glo fish. The wild type is already beautiful as is
I think they are mostly made for kids as they visually like colorful things
Cannot wait for other colors ^w^
Your review had me cracking up. Thanks!
😉
Another great video!👍😁
Can you put regular tetras in there
I think this tank would be too small for tetra as they like to be in big groups. I think a 20 gallon with a group of 10 or 14 would be really nice!
How does Kobus and Magdalena grab you for names?
Can you give me the measurement of the all in one section of this aquarium? Thank you
I absolutely love your shirt legend of zelda is my fav nintendo series
Its the best series for sure. My favorite is still Ocarina of Time
betta starter kits should include heaters imo...so many people just buy the kit and the fish, fill it up and plop them in :(

Do you think I could use this for fish that are not betta fish?
Pretty good I like it.
do i need to add water where the pump does?
Can they live salt water sense they have jellyfish DNA
Good
can tetra be in there
It looks a lot like a mini marineland portrait
They also have a 3 gallon version - I'm guessing this is the same tank with a new box.
I actually like making the anti glo fish people a little mad because why are the anti glo fish. I'll be putting out my planted glo fish video soon
I always assumed only PETA was anti glofish and everyone else just didn't care for them :p
The chemicals in what part of the setup can cause cancer?
I love, love, love your t-shirt!
Thanks!
What do you use in your HOB filters? I noticed you said you don’t like the filter it comes with.
I just get sponges at the dollar store ^_^
Which sponge do you get? Just any kitchen dish sponge without scrubber?
I like your LINK shirt!!!!🤩
Do you still have this tank? We just got it and the filter sounds like it’s going to burn out.
