  • This video summarizes day 6 of my 9 day solo bicycle trip through South-Western Ontario, Canada. All of the clips in the video were filmed on Thursday, May 24, 2018.
Starting at A.W. Campbell Conservation Area I headed West along Shiloh Line. I turned and headed north on Nauvoo Road. I stopped when I eventually reached Watford at Home Hardware. I also grabbed some grocery items from Foodland and ate a Panzoroti for lunch at 4 Sister's Pizza. After that I continued north along Nauvoo Rd and crossed over highway 402, then eventually turned right onto Hickory Creek Line to head east. I briefly rode on Townsend Line then turn onto Gordon Road to continue north. I passed through the community of Thedford along with many large scale dairy farms and wind turbines. Gordon Rd eventually terminates at Bog line where I turned and headed West back to the main highway. I continued north on Northville Rd and then turned North East onto Lakeshore Rd which is also known as Highway 21. I crossed over the Ausable river and continued riding until I reached the entrance into Pinery Provincial Park. After purchasing a camping permit I still had another 5km to ride to get to campsite since Pinery is such a large park. For dinner I rode back out the park and went to the community of Grand Bend. There is a paved multi-use trail along Highway 21 which links Grand Bend and Pinery.
Strava for Day 6: / strava
The bike I used for this trip is a New York made Linear Recumbent Bike which I believe is from around 2004. I carried my gear in 2 Giant Waterproof Panniers, and mounted my tent and sleeping pad on the top of the rack.

Thank you CJ, glad you got your tire repaired. What l could see about Pinery Provincial Park, is that the distance from the front gate to your campground. As well as the boardwalk to the beach is very similar to a campground l only live 1 hour from, which is Kouchibouguac National Park, in the Province of New Brunswick. As always enjoying this series

Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm familiar with Kouchibouguac, but have never had the chance to visit. I lived in Bathurst, New Brunswick for 4 months in summer of 2010.

I've been following your channel since around 2013, I believe, and it's really cool to see you made it out to Grand Bend (I'm sorry, but I'm glad that restaurant was closed!). I'm originally from London, so Grand Bend and the Pinery are places I know very very well, having gone there many times every single summer. It's crazy to see Grand Bend so empty; definitely not used to that! As for the pebbles in the beach, I believe beaches 1-3 are the ones that are really sandy, but unfortunately, while the Pinery is great for many things, the beach at Grand Bend is much better (as I'm sure you noticed). Grand Bend does have boat rentals (Kayaks, Canoes, peddle boats, and bike/boat hybrids) which is what I spent a lot of my time doing over there; it's located right beside the retail area which was closed when you went back.
Anyways, I've been thoroughly enjoying your journey (although I wish you made it to London). Interestingly enough, I have a friend who lives at your exact old building near Yonge/Eglinton, which reminded me of your old videos there (the skyline video, the video about using statues to scare the pigeons, etc.). I live in Toronto now too, which I'm going to just be blunt and say is a billion times nicer than the rural areas. Anyways, great seeing your videos man. I hope you're doing well and enjoyed your summer. Take care!

I'm glad I got to see Grand Bend too! I wasn't really complaining about the pebbles on the beach. They were just totally not what I was expecting after seeing so much sand before reaching the water.

Good to see all these places we would never otherwise see. Those are some long straight roads, I can see why you took a radio along. Beautiful sunset.

After many years of cycling without any tire damage I now carry a few tire boots just in case.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Shopping for bike parts in rural Ontario certainly strengthens my appreciation for the bike shops I have access to within walking distance of my home living in Canada's largest city!

To be perfectly honest, I had never heard of such a thing prior to this trip. But that definitely would have been handy to have been carrying with me! In this case though, the leak had nothing to do with the damaged sidewall, which was a huge relief.

You were so close to Rock Glen Conservation Area between Watford and Grand Bend, it's a beautiful little waterfall spot, you would have really enjoyed it, if you're ever back in the area you should check it out. I just subbed and I look forward to seeing more of your bike trip videos. ✌

You can always use a dollar bill as an emergency tire boot

Except if you're touring in Canada where we don't have dollar bills :P

Just gradually work your way up to it! Before doing this trip I did a few longer rides, including a 100km ride. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do 100km in a day before departing on a trip where I'd be doing 100km+ most of the days.
