  • This video summarizes day 7 of my 9 day solo bicycle trip through South-Western Ontario, Canada. All of the clips in the video were filmed on Friday, May 25, 2018.
    Starting at my campsite at Pinery Provincial Park I rode out of the park and onto Highway 21. The took the multi-use path heading North East to Greenway Drive, then headed South East. This road eventually changes names and becomes Mt Carmel Dr. I rode it all the way to Richmond St where I turned and headed south. I rode past Dave's Farm (formerly davidsfarm on RUclips), then into the community of Lucan where the road changes names to Main St. After stopping for lunch at Pad Thai restaurant, I continued through Lucan and headed north along Saintsbury Line. When I reached Fallon Dr I turned right and headed east into the small community of Granton. I briefly jogged south on Granton Line, then east along Awmik Dr, then north along Clarke Rd. When I reached Whalen Line I turned and headed South East until the community of Prospect Hill. From there I turned onto Perth County Rd 139 and headed North East into the town of St Mary's. After stopping at the Town Hall building to play the piano, I decided to go and check out the Canadian Baseball Hall of fame. From Queen St I followed Church St. When I discovered that the museum wasn't open I proceeded out of town along Tracy St, Park St, Elizabeth St, Brock st, Elgin St, and Cain St. From there I continued riding East along County Rd 9 until I reached the traffic circle where it intersects with Highway 7. Just beyond there is Wildwood Conservation area, where I camped for the evening. I returned to St Marys and had dinner at Little Red's Pub and Eatery and also visited the Sarina Bridge of the Grand Truck Railway.
    Strava for Day 7: / strava
    The bike I used for this trip is a New York made Linear Recumbent Bike which I believe is from around 2004. I carried my gear in 2 Giant Waterproof Panniers, and mounted my tent and sleeping pad on the top of the rack.
    I hope you enjoyed this video. Please COMMENT and subscribe!
    Thanks for watching.

    I live in St. Marys. Next time you are in check out Jennie's for breakfast and lunch. On the corner of of Queen and Water. Killer breakfast and a country kitchen feel that is so cool. Couldn't have picked a better place to retire. St. Marys is worth living in for sure.

    Your piano playing reminds me of the late Stobe The Hobo. He used to make train hopping videos. He made a fascinating cross country video from BC to Ontario. He also incorporated piano playing into his videos.

    Best one so far. I am impressed that you were able to remember all of the scenery details, or you were taking notes as you rode along.

      Thanks, I really appreciate it. At the end of each day I took some notes to help me remember my experiences from the day. I also have a GPS record of my route which helps me remember the names of all the roads.

    Right, piano like nothing I've ever seen -- so cool. Suppose they take it in during the winter...try to keep it in tune a little. Great job!

      Thanks! I've seen outdoor pianos in a few other places including Central Park in NYC. But it really wasn't something I was expecting to see in St Mary. Yes, I'm sure it's only outside during the warmer months, and they also cover is up at night.

    Your video description says Sarina but it sounds like you said Sarnia. Can you please clarify the bridge name is in St Mary's Ontario? Also in your video description you mention the trail is called Grand Truck Trail but as per the website it is actually called Grand Trunk Trail.

    Great videos. Question for you...how do you lock your bike up at night while camping?

    • @cjhoyle
      @cjhoyle  6 лет назад

      I normally just park the bike relatively close to my tent, and put my lock through the frame and the wheel so that it can't be rolled away. Given that it's a recumbent bike which most people don't even know how to ride, it's safe enough. I'm a light enough sleeper that I think I would hear it if someone started to mess with my bike. In Niagara Falls the park staff encouraged me to park my bike in their maintenance garage because they have a lot of bike theft there.

    I can see why you would consider living in St. Mary's! I Googled the quarry and it's beautiful. This series is awesome. Thanks for all the hard work!!
    What became of your wet camera?

    • @cjhoyle
      @cjhoyle  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying the series! I didn't want to attempt to turn the camera on until after I had given it several days to dry out so I would be sure there was no water left which might cause a short circuit. I've tried it a few times since then and it still seems to be working!
