Habitat for Humanity is such a good organization. They really do help provide affordable housing. I'm happy to hear they are helping the Maui fire victims.
@@MisterClear-yc3on I checked them out on Charity Navigator. They have a four rating, with four stars being the top rating. Back when I was living in Tucson, Arizona, Habitat for Humanity got some nice write ups in our local paper for helping to provide affordable housing for families in need.
@MisterClear-yc3on in your opinion, what is wrong with Habitat for Humanity Maui? I genuinely want to know if there are things we should be concerned about.
Thank you for the update. You do an amazing job reuniting Lahaina and those of us on the mainland that love Maui. I hope to return asap. Much love to everyone involved in rebuilding their lives there.
We will be there very soon and have reservations at several of those open restaurants. We are excited to support the local businesses and all those we can give our Aloha to during our visit. Mahalo, Jesse, for your continued updates and communications.
Thanks for driving us around to show how things are looking for the open public areas around town. The beach is so beautiful and like you said, seeing the green of the trees and vegetation is uplifting. ❤ And very happy to hear Habitat is helping out with rebuilding! They do awesome work here where I live as well. Grateful to you for the time and effort to continue the regular updates - you're awesome. 😊
As always, thank you for your updates, Jesse. Kahoma Village likely survived due to updated building codes and fire resistant exteriors, as I am sure you know. I also watch the weekly Lahaina Community Meetings available here on YT. They are poorly attended and viewed, yet they have valuable information.the Army Corps of Engineers, the departments of public works, the mayor and others give reports and help. It always amazes me how much attention the low information conspiracy channels get. Anyway, a Lahaina Community Land Trust has been set up, and they gave a presentation. If any homeowner feels they must sell, they have the option of selling to the Land Trust at market value, to keep the land in Lahaina hands forever. No need for anyone to get suspicious about the aims, as it is all spelled out clearly. The land and the house built on it will stay locally owned forever.
Thank you for your videos. They don't show us much on the mainland. Being I once lived in kona and saw the beauty of the islands . I still like knowing Lahina town is getting help. People on the mainland don't know how hard it is to get materials to rebuild. God's blessings over all effected by this horrible fire. Aloha
Lahaina Strong as we are Paradise Strong along with you!! Thank you for sharing the video and letting us know the progress there. I am a Camp Fire survivor, so I understand what Lahaina is going through!!!
Thank you for sharing this update. I always appreciate it as I am anxious for Maui to recover as quickly as possible. Definitely putting Habitat for Humanity on my charity list for end of year gift giving.
I have watched your aerial videos and your comments about the cleanup. The Navy has had a Seabee Battalion on Oahu and they would be far more efficient than FEMA could ever dream of. What FEMA was in charge of cleaning up pales in comparison to the Trade Centmer. Beginning on September 12th when heavy equipment began to arrive to participate in the search and recovery, the final steel support column removal ceremony . on May 29th. Two 10. 3 story buildings with an additional six stories underground. A 47 story office building. It was all removed with the painstaking search of all the loose debris on Staten Island sifting for human remains and personal effects. There wasn't any FEMA obstruction. I am amazed that the cleanup in Lahaina took this long. Reconstruction began almost immediately. In Lahaina people are struggling with the bureaucracy to get building permits issued. Possibly the same bureaucracy that allowed the elements to develop which led to the catastrophic fire. I worked on the search and recovery beginning on September 15th. The senses, visual, sound, odors are still with me.
Aloha Jesse. Another great video and enjoyed the up close driving video, as you drove past a few areas I was interested in. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Mahalo, Jayson
Great video. It just breaks my heart to see what has happened to that beautiful town, all the history just gone. I spent so much time walking that town years ago. I hope and pray Lahaina comes back even better but still will never be that same sleepy town in my memories. Prayers to all the people of Maui.
Again, thanks for all of your updates. It makes so many of us who have spent so much time there feel better and encouraged that the process of rebuilding is taking place albeit not at the pace we would like.....yet we are seeing progress. Thanks so much, Jesse!
Thank you for another superb tour---this time by motor vehicle---of Lahaina! With our Aloha from Molokai, Andy & Debbie McKane, 7 September 2024, Maunaloa, Molokai.
We went to Maui 3 years ago and were in Lahaina every day - this is heartbreaking. I hope that they can rebuild with the same "Mom & Pop" stores that were there - and that it doesn't taken over by big money. Thanks for your awesome videos!
Wow this was my exact drive home the afternoon of 8/8/23 after coming down Lahainaluna road getting to the highway home to Leiali’i. Hard to imagine just HOURS after we drove past all the residential on front street were burned to the ground Mahalo Ke Akua for your protection and rebuild efforts. The journey continues. Thanks Jesse for filming ,,
Thanks for all you do! On your drone videos as well as this one, could you maybe have a screen recording of the map in the corner or something? That would really help orient everyone during the videos.
Thank you I enjoy your Lahaina videos very much. Your home village is so close to the fire area, amazing it was spared. And I love seeing tht the Banyon Tree is recovering. Thank you again.
Another excellent video Jesse,I really look forward to your updates. BTW your neighborhood is beautiful. Can't wait to see those empty lots when framing starts. And as always God's speed to the people of Lahaina.
My wife and I took our 2 girls every year from 04-2010 for ten days during vacation time. The wife and I decided to go on a whim last May for our anniversary. Never in my lifetime would’ve thought Lahaina would burn down like this. We were crushed! It was like a second home to us! We almost bought a painting done by Anthony Quin but of course said we’ll do it next time we go back. Who would’ve thought that there wouldn’t be a next time
Used to love your city and vacationed there with my family. I will never go back again since I know that during an emergency, you can't rely on authority to help you. No roads to escape. I will not put myself and family in danger in that area.
The real issue apparently with getting on with the rebuild is. The county and state bureaucracy tends to bog down progress. No matter the funding. It will be years before Lahaina is up and going, it will never be like before. But strangling commercial business and the residents, especially the residents with so many mandates is counterintuitive to getting things back to somewhat normalcy. I love Lahaina, visited practically yearly for twenty years. I will stay way to respect their desire for healing. Mahalo.
Aloha could you please show where some of the historic sites are/were? My Grandparents were the last caretakers of the Lahaina Jail before it was closed. The property in front of the entryway is still in the family.
Thanks for the update! We are visiting Maui in October and would love to do some sort of volunteer work while we are there to give back. Any good organizations?
can anyone tell me if the local people are allowed to rebuild there normal houses again or is the government still pushing for that Fancy E City they where talking about. Thanks from Down Under Australia.
Unfortunately now we have more than Lahaina to worry about😢In order: Florida, North carolina, Tennessee, and now California... how much more can this country take?😔🙏🇺🇲
Are people able to live in a temporary unit, camper or rv while they wait for permit/construction? To rebuild you need people. Or maybe the delay in rebuilding is good given the infrastructure to prevent this again still needs to be addressed.
Sad to see Lahaina after the fire. I heard that the fire victims get $700 help from the government. How could they survive with that little money? It seems like Ukrainian people receive more money from our government than our Hawaiian people 😞. We will be there next year and surely will support the locals!
I'm getting mixed messages about visiting Maui. I would love to visit Maui again. Maui wants visitors to return because tourism provides jobs and injects outside money. But locals do not want visitors. Does Maui want visitors to come back?
Have home owners been able to keep their property? I hope that the flavor of what was there is kept. Not new and ( ruined) What ever saved some homes in landscape is repeated for every homeowner.
One way to help is by voting for people who are not friends with developers or celebrities who want to take the Maui’s people land. Vote out the people who turned their back on Maui.
A large number of the current council people are backed by a construction union from O'ahu. And that election was BEFORE the fire. Two are up for re-election, of course. Once a person is elected they get to stay for 5 terms (10 years) if no one is their opposition.
Bezos just donated 2+ million for four all terrain fire trucks. Mick Fleetwood did a concert this week, with others, to raise money. Lost track of Oprah’s contributions, but I don’t blame her for keeping a low profile after the online hate she received. Never enough for the haters.
This is so heartbreaking. I only hope that Maui County isn’t as corrupt as the City and County of Honolulu where you basically have to pay somebody off to get a building permit.
Try telling us how the people are going to have their homes rebuilt?? What funding will they receive if any? These plasma fires are killing and ruining lives.
My ex bf used to live there but his family still lived there so I didn’t know it got burned down until later on and they are Hawaiians so that is messed up it got burnt down and there older son is fight for this for them or I am guessing someone took over to buy this property because they live there the whole life they have until that got messed up to be burnt for what!?! And I hope no one bought like the white rich tourist ughh so not cool but I didn’t get much details about it yet but I am sad from it being burnt down tho so not a great looking ughh😮😮😢😢
Don’t want but rely on. Locals will never be farming the earth and fishing, living a subsistence life style again- nor would most want that life or survive it these days. The internet, wealth, and just sheer numbers in population have changed everywhere forever. Gl
At this point should anyone be visiting Maui at all? I get a mixed feeling about residents not wanting tourists to visit at all. I was born in Hawaii and I love Maui. People there are so much more friendly than on the big island.
Yes, definitely come visit Maui! It is really easy to avoid the burnt area and still enjoy a full vacation. Don't let the noisy minority convince you otherwise.
Sounds like you take offense, I’m sorry you feel that way. The way I see it… Maui is a big beautiful island with lots of great beaches that are open and welcoming. It’s really easy to avoid this one beach for a little while longer.
