So enjoy Christina and you on your adventures. Always great stories and laughter, plus I always learn great things from you. Keep up the great work and cant wait for the book.😘
What a gorgeous camp site better still you folks and the dogs are alone that is awesome . Those turnover's looked excellent Kristine nice job ! . looked like an epic trip nice water's great weather . thanks for bring us along
Great video! I was happy to see Big Gull Lake mentioned. I spent time there as a wee lad at my grandmothers cottage and remembered that lake well. I had seen people camping on the islands while fishing with my dad back in late seventies, early eightes and thought to myself, how cool is that. Now as a backcountry camper myself I will definitely look into going back to Big Gull Lake and surrounding lakes to reminisce👍.
What a beautiful video Marty! Superb from both a technical quality (sharp, great colour) perspective, and from the people and scenery. Well done! Can’t wait for the follow ups!
Another great video! I love your chemistry with Kristine and the furry friends. I also appreciate learning about other places to canoe camp. I find your trips smart and educational, yet, accessible.
My favourite lake. Heading back to the Crotch on Sunday. I do a few trips to the North Frontenac Parklands every year. So many great lakes. Canoeing and fishing is amazing.
Always entertaining watching your camping videos. It's nice when there's a story behind a peace of equipment. The one Nalgene bottle I use while camping has a similar story but not as good as yours. I found it at a campsite while cleaning up somebody else's garbage and saw it under a tree full of water. I thought; somebody's gonna be thirsty but it'll be good carma for leaving the site a mess. So I washed out the bottle and gave it a good home with the rest of my gear.
I hope you were able to rest and relax. Reading Once Around Algonquin, one chapter a day to prolong the enjoyment. So enjoying it! Thanks for sharing your love trip
"cash whack a mac". Park at Bon Echo Provincial Park if you have an annual Ontario Park permit and do the Mazinaw Lake first. Every park pass is good for ALL parks including Algonquin
Great video Kevin. I love this spot. I camped on an island site in the spring, beautiful area, I really enjoyed filming my video here. I have two other trips planned. Looks like you guys had a good time. Thanks for sharing.
Did the route solo down from mazinaw and ran into the same problem at the portage at the bridge even though it says you should portage on river right, that's all private property. There is a small parking lot on river left that had some people swimming and I snuck on that side and walked the last few meters of rapid. Quite confusing. The best portages on the route were actually on the small creek between crotch and gull as there was no delevelopment getting in the way!
Another great adventure, still our favorite canoe camping channel! Hey I have a (maybe) stupid question, but here in most of Europe we do not have back country camping so we always have water taps on campgrounds for clean drinking water. But you guys off course use the water from lakes, my question is do you only filter your drinking water? for cooking/doing dishes you just only boil/heat it?
Fellow Canadian backcountry camper here - to answer your not-stupid-at-all question, yes you need to treat the water using a pump or gravity water filter specifically for that purpose. Giardia and E. coli 0157:H7 are endemic in our waters, especially if there are farms on the same watershed. A filter removes the bacteria and cysts, but not viruses (usually not a problem). You can also use UV light (SteriPen), chemical sterilization (Aquamira or AquaTabs), or just bring the water to a rolling boil for a few minutes, though that's usually not practical while travelling by canoe and it tastes kinda flat. :-)
@@SpanishJoe666 Thanks Jason! I was just wondering as this is almost never showed/ discussed in all the channels | follow, drinking water yes, but cooking doing dishes was a pure guess :) Thanks again!
Great video Kevin. Nice to see you and Christine having a nice relaxing time. Have you thought about bringing her to Nova Scotia and paddling Keji? May you both have many more enjoyable trips together. Cheers

Adding this to my 2024 trip list :)
Thanks again - your content is always full of humour, positivity, and trip knowledge ❤
Thanks. It's a good place to canoe camp. The centre of the lake is best.
@@TheHappyCamper Centre? Is that why it’s called Crotch?!? #dadjokes
Love the dragen fly!
The knife story is classic. Always great when a piece of equipment has a story.
That's my favorite lake!
such a great lake and area the parklands is 45 minutes from my house and i enjoy lots of time there!!
Love you guys!! Christine you are so awesome, love seeing you and Kevin out together with the doggies! Can't wait for the next adventure.

I think that full canoe loop would make a good trip

You two are hilarious ,,great video

Thanks so much. I love the accessible part. It doesn't have to be a "lost" route all the time. LOL
I first camped on Crotch Lake over 30 years ago. North Frontenac is a great area. Red Horse Lake & Govan Lakes in that area are nice paddling lakes.

We'll definitely be back as well.
Bacon - Kevin you mentioned pre-cooked and shrink wrapped, it still needs to be refrigerated.

Cool story. I've gathered a few bits of camp gear the same way over the years.
That was just too much fun! Baking bannock in a coffee can is a lot of fun (university days.) Worked out well.
Greetings from Poland 👍
We did the Crotch lake loop starting at Kashawakamak the weekend before May 24. Very nice area.
Great choice in beers! The only one that may have been better is one of the McKinnon Brothers brews!! Way to go!!
How did the rhubarb turn out? Love your videos 👍
It was really good. I wish I brought more.

Sweet!
When you pulled out the heavy, blue bag from the barrel, I thought you were going to say it was the single malt bag! 😅

Interesting that it's still an issue there.
I remember when hot water bottles were made like that! Lol
Got to ask, what is that clipped to your hat in the cooking scene around 13:30 lol?
... dragonfly to chase other bugs away ...12:00 ..
@@rockytopwrangler2069 lol looks ridiculous but hey; if it works, it works.
ok been binge watching all you shows...not really a comment person but love you guys......I am a scotch drinker.....what does the dehydrated lime do?
It just adds a bit to a simple blend. I probably wouldn't bother with a good single malt though.

We generally boil up water for dishes and filter all drinking water.
I need to know more about those rhubarb turnovers please!
*Look closely at my profile picture lol
