    Great video! I was happy to see Big Gull Lake mentioned. I spent time there as a wee lad at my grandmothers cottage and remembered that lake well. I had seen people camping on the islands while fishing with my dad back in late seventies, early eightes and thought to myself, how cool is that. Now as a backcountry camper myself I will definitely look into going back to Big Gull Lake and surrounding lakes to reminisce👍.

    Always entertaining watching your camping videos. It's nice when there's a story behind a peace of equipment. The one Nalgene bottle I use while camping has a similar story but not as good as yours. I found it at a campsite while cleaning up somebody else's garbage and saw it under a tree full of water. I thought; somebody's gonna be thirsty but it'll be good carma for leaving the site a mess. So I washed out the bottle and gave it a good home with the rest of my gear.

    Did the route solo down from mazinaw and ran into the same problem at the portage at the bridge even though it says you should portage on river right, that's all private property. There is a small parking lot on river left that had some people swimming and I snuck on that side and walked the last few meters of rapid. Quite confusing. The best portages on the route were actually on the small creek between crotch and gull as there was no delevelopment getting in the way!

      It just adds a bit to a simple blend. I probably wouldn't bother with a good single malt though.

    Another great adventure, still our favorite canoe camping channel! Hey I have a (maybe) stupid question, but here in most of Europe we do not have back country camping so we always have water taps on campgrounds for clean drinking water. But you guys off course use the water from lakes, my question is do you only filter your drinking water? for cooking/doing dishes you just only boil/heat it?

    • @SpanishJoe666
      @SpanishJoe666 2 года назад +1

      Fellow Canadian backcountry camper here - to answer your not-stupid-at-all question, yes you need to treat the water using a pump or gravity water filter specifically for that purpose. Giardia and E. coli 0157:H7 are endemic in our waters, especially if there are farms on the same watershed. A filter removes the bacteria and cysts, but not viruses (usually not a problem). You can also use UV light (SteriPen), chemical sterilization (Aquamira or AquaTabs), or just bring the water to a rolling boil for a few minutes, though that's usually not practical while travelling by canoe and it tastes kinda flat. :-)

    • @petervedder4848
      @petervedder4848 2 года назад

      @@SpanishJoe666 Thanks Jason! I was just wondering as this is almost never showed/ discussed in all the channels | follow, drinking water yes, but cooking doing dishes was a pure guess :) Thanks again!
