jcole's "I got a strange type of hunger the more I eat the more, it gets stronger" is such a nice parallel to hoseok's "more" and "arson"
J-Hope did a second verse in case the collaboration didn’t happen, it is stunning, as well. He was a guest on Jay Park ‘Drive’ and the performance was amazing. He deliberately wrote this song with a beat and style to let his idol ride and rap while he dances-the footage of dance is a type of handoff. They are connected back and forth. J-Hope starts in the alley where J-Cole filmed his 2007 MV Simba. The child is wearing the same jacket as Cole, a nod to similar journeys for the two artists. I have such respect for you, Sir. I’m sure you will watch it more than once to discover a lot of little gems.
Instantly recognized that alley, Simba is my favorite debut ever.
I'll check that performance out. Thank you for pointing it out.
Also, I read this line "He deliberately wrote this song with a beat and style to let his idol ride and rap" in J. Cole's voice with this beat in my mind and it sounded great lol.
Thanks, your comments gave me better understanding of the imagery in the MV
I definitely think this track was a tribute. Jhope is jhope bc of Jcole. From him being a kid dancing to Jcole songs back in the day, to learning to rap, being inspired by Cole. How else do you thank your idol by making a track and giving him the freedom to ride the beat get hold the bars down for over half the track, just so Hope could go back in the day and freestyle dance to the flow. Then the meet up at the end. Ugh, I love it.
I teared up at "but like a father, watching his daughter, walk down the altar, with tears in his eyes, you gotta let her grow" 😭
That's right, he means rap. He should let rap game go.🥺
@@suprem718 ???
@@sammie7678 I mean that line
I'm deep in with this rappin'
It's all a nigga know
I never didn't nothin' better
It's hard to let it go
But like a father watching his daughter
Walk down the altar with tears in his eyes
You gotta let her grow
And so I shall
Cole talk about he should let rap game go.
This is one of the most organic feeling collabs and they complement each other. Yup m insanely proud for Hobi he got to do this his dream collab. It’s an absolute masterpiece and so much hope in it.
The symbolism of Hobi dancing underground to J. Cole's verse and then at the end meeting his idol on the top!!
J-Hope really has that ability to actually give us all hope, make us feel good and motivate us with his music and overall attitude. He is such a creative genius, I could talk about it non stop 24/7.
I literally I cried the first time I watched the music video. I am so glad I am not alone in having an emotional reaction to this video/song
i cry every single time that line about the father looking his daughter walk down the altar comes. EVERY TIME. it’s honestly such a meaningful song and even a more emotional gift knowing he will enlist soon. love that he put everything he loves/appreciates/looks up to on the mv. dancing, rapping, and the song itself being a collab w one of his favorite rappers it’s just very happy to see.
Hobi’s verse in #on_the_street is deeper than many people think.
First, you have to know that the child in the mv is hobi. the kid is wearing Air Jordan 11s. Theyre the same pair Hobi owns now.
Air Jordans are also known as J’s so “J in the Air” is a play on the shoes.
Air Jordan’s (J’s) are significant bc j.cole mentions the shoes in his song “higher.”
Meeting j.cole at lolla, hobi mentioned to him that he loves his mixtape Friday Night Lights, especially Higher.
& Hobi found a genius way to add in that reference to both the lyrics and the Music Video. 👏🏼
Air Jordan’s (J’s) are significant bc j.cole mentions the shoes in his song “higher.”
Meeting j.cole at lolla, hobi mentioned to him that he loves his mixtape Friday Night Lights, especially Higher & Hobi found a genius way to add it into the lyrics and MV.
The child is wearing almost the same outfit as j.cole wears in the MV. This represents how much hobi idolized j.cole and found inspiration in him when he was young.
At the start, you see j-hope help kid-hobi put his earphones on, pat his head, shake his hand, and wave to him as they both set off walking down their paths. It’s almost feels like he was comforting and assuring his younger self.
Hobi’s verse starts “My two feet walk willingly, anywhere. J in the air”
Hobi sets off on a life path that leads him to his destination “j in the air”, represented at the end by him and jcole on the roof. This is where “J in the air” takes on another meaning.
He’s playing with the fact that they’re both J’s and they’re “in the air” now.
He gave us a hint at his lolla performance “you can call me J”
(also, “j in the air” is also a reference to his song Airplane which is about j-hope finding his success after so many hard trials.)
“For the path I’m on to become one of hope, I give my all. Even my walk was made of Your love and your faith.”
He’s talking about how he worked so hard and made many sacrifices to make sure that the path he willingly chose to follow, became successful.
he tells us that it’s bc of our love and faith that all his hard work came to fruition and is what made this path possible.
“To repay you even from afar, just like a butterfly”
He references BTS’s song Butterfly in this line.
His verse:“like a wind that gently strokes me, like a dust that gently drifts along, Youre there but for some reason, I cant reach you”
bc hes leaving for a while, he wishes to give this song as his message for us to always have & to comfort us while hes unable to be with us.
“Now, just walk lightly, whenever you want
Go on hopefully, wherever you walk
In these streets imbued with someones breath
I leave my soul and my eternity
Everywhere (I’ll be)”
No matter what path we chose, he wants to always be with us to be our piece of peace.
“Every time I walk, Every time I run
Every time I move, As always, for us
Every time I look, Every time I love
Every time I hope, As always, for us”
He goes through the mv walking on his path. It shows him as a kid that was inspired by j.cole to him working hard throughout his youth practicing his love of street dance, to eventually climbing up from the bottom to finally reach his destination at the top where he meets and shakes the hand of the man who inspired him from the start.
As Hobi said himself "Hope always has a plan". Everything this man does is well-though out. He never misses in anything - be it releases, MVS, performances, literally anything - that even within Hybe, there's a high praise that goes "There's a Hobi in you" because he's good in everything. Proud would be an understatement to talk about how I feel about Hobi's journey and achievements. After everything he has done and is doing, he deserves all accolades and more.
#on_the_street is a full circle moment for him as he mentioned several times how much of a J.Cole fan he is, even calling him his muse. This collaboration was years in the making and now it's breaking records, as it should. 🔥
I think j-hope is the rapper that he is now because of jcole’s influence, they are poetic rappers and I love them so much
when i tell you j-hope is a GENOIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now tell me a better way to say goodbye to your fans? there is not! he succeeded. He did the impossible! I thought I'd never be able to say goodbye/see you later j-hope .. not me who'e been a fan of his for years but he really grapped my hand, assured me, thanked me , AND promised for more all in one go!
He is embracing his roots while keeping an eye on the future all of that in a dream collab with a good bye/ see later song ....I can't stop mentioning how much of a genouis musician this man is! Not to forget the song is a banger too like ..? oh god I could go on for days and I'd still have more to talk about he is truly a genius n have all my respect.
THE DESCRIPTION by Sammy Shiblaq will be the best reaction ever🔥
this is SO beautiful, and knowing Jcole was his number 1 influence in terms of music growing up makes it even more significant and emotional for us. Like this is a gift for US but as well for him, i think 2013 jhope would have a heart attack if he saw this
The beginning of the video was shot in the same street as one of jcole's first music videos
Goddammit, every time they post a goodbye song, and no matter how many times I listen to it, it makes me teary-eyed. For Youth, The Astronaut and now On The Street all did it to me. 💜💜💜
BTS is my first K-pop love from way back in 2016 and even though I don’t follow BTS like I use too ‘on the street and RM’s song Wild Flower really hit me on an emotional level, kinda like a warm, welcoming hug when you come home. I’m so proud of Hobie, he’s really come into his own and his personal growth as an Artist is amazing and really evident from this song, dope reaction.
the way hobi works his way up from dancing to his idol's rap in the street just like he did as a kid to meeting his idol up on the roof top makes me so emotional
i just love this collab, the fact that hobi made a song with his idol since he was young, literally his inspiration and a big part of hobi as an artist, and even made a "goodbye" song with such an emotional lyrics, how he transmits when he raps and dances, this made me so happy and proud, i could hear this when i feel happy, when i feel sad and need a hug, when i need to cry, definitely a healing song.
This song evokes so many emotions I didn't know I was capable of having. That line being a father letting daughter go, man. Too much😢
This is his version of see you soon, love you army. Love n miss you already hobi...see you soon
Wow! I appreciate your sincere reaction. And I agree, j-hope is special. In a recent Insta post about Hope on the Street, Hobi said that it's truth and light more than triumph and success that make him content. He and J. Cole are on the same wavelength in this song. Here's the whole post:
I think j-hope is a person made up of a series of little things coming together. Little by little I and we have kept creating and shaping ourselves. Music is the same to me. I studied and created as music ebbed and flowed through me always, everywhere.
Along the way, two bits of flint strike with a shower of sparks.
The flames feel more intense maybe because this is the part that's tough for me, that challenges me. I think all I did these days was relive this process in my mind, over and over again. It still feels like a dream! With it, my belief that the truth prevails always and everywhere keeps getting stronger too.
I had fun!! And I was happy!!
Because truth more than triumph makes me content, my inner light more than my success.
Thank you for listening to a song that means much to me. I love you !!!!
Hobi has loved J. Cole as an artist since he was a teen, back when he was an underground dancer, which adds another layer to his journey in the video - J.Cole at the top, and J-hope starting literally underground and getting to the top as well, where he meets his idol on even fiel, now collaborating together.
This is j-hope’s versatility and wide range. This Chapter 2 he has proven he is the real star. He has been so tied being in the band. He is a star on his own. This song is a gift for his fans as he is about to enlist. The whole mv is about his background in dancing and as the biggest fan of JCole he gave the floor to him and let him do his thing on the roof while jhope dance underground like he used to. Listening to JCole’s songs. JCole is jhope’s muse! That is how much respect he has on JCole. Also FYI, Jcole’s bar about wanting more, jhope has rapped about putting out his fire (Arson) and wanting more (More). Also the whistling it is j-hope who created the melody and the one whistling.
It feels almost too good a coincidence this is one of the songs for PD to make this channel's comeback, but sometimes things just fall into place. This song is beautiful, both for ARMYs and people that don't know j-hope that well. And the J. Cole verse is great but I think it derails a little from j-hope emphasis on the collective, because J. Cole is more introspective and individual in his pov. Anyway, the vibe and the sound is immaculate. Awesome song, and awesome to see PD in this space again.
Yes J. Cole is considered the GOAT, definitely worth giving more of a listen
J cole would’ve co signed this, the description by sammy shiblaq.
No 🧢 he underrated ngl
This song is definitely one of my healing song in 2023. Like you have said, they really make me in love again and even deeper with them as time goes by
Jhope’s personality changed my life. i love this man, his music 💟💟
I'm still feels like crying listening to this song....
j-hope is a lyrical genius .
he really put out big messages in the most poetic and beautiful way.... that is rare.
I'm kind of feels this song is like a gift of celebration for hoseok's stan after so many long years we have been wanting j-hope solo era...from HopeWorld to JITB and some of this solo songs released in between those era .... we finally have j-hope solo era to showcase his musicality and creatively.
a celebration for j-hope's stans really.
Damn that made me cry what a beautiful song and the message and the way Jhope expressed J cole’s lyrics with his dance! Amazing
..i sense J Hope's passion in doing this video...J Cole seems to be a legend in hip hop nowadays..both of them form a wonderful collaboration...this video is celestial, artistically speaking. J hope's dancing is also extraordinary..it reminds me of the film Dancing in the Rain with Gene Kelly. The meeting between the 2 worlds is amazingly enriching.
When 2 legends do collaboration..amazing
a little off topic but i love being able to see your eyes:0 they are so expressive
J-Hope, Cole World
JCole, Hope World
wow...
I love this song, JCole's verse MOVES me every time I hear it. He is a poet... the way he describes time passing - The moon jumping over the cow 🌙 I'm in LOVE
one of the best collabration ever , im so proud of jhope
I’m shocked that they didn’t have Jcole pull back on the lyrics that verse was fire. But you reignited my love for KPOP a few years ago I always watch your reacts to find my next favorite group or song. Keep pushing bro
BTS truly has a way to be so healing. I know PD's favorite artist is Seventeen and if you've watched a lot of their reactions then you know how they feel about Seventeen. I have that for BTS. There's a lot of artists I love dearly but nobody gets me as emotional as BTS. They were the ones who saved me when I needed them most. I would not be walking this earth, hearing the birds chirp, feeling my heart beating in my chest today if it wasn't for BTS. I'm not religious at all but Cole's verse had me crying. I don't believe that there's some being who created us all but he really conveyed how beautiful this world is. I'm queer, trans and black so you can probably imagine how easily I've lost faith in humanity and this world. There's so much hate that I can't escape and it truly drowns out the beauty of this world. I don't believe in god but he's so right, isn't it enough that I get to live? To see this world? Obviously this doesn't fix my struggles but DAMN DOES IT HELP.
Thank you so much...
I ascend when jcole hit that high harmony too... very beautiful
BTS covered J Cole's song *Born Sinner* in 2013/2014, and finally released it on their last album but the remake is named *Born Singer*.BTS doesn't do many covers, but that one is special. J Cole was a huge inspiration to BTS, but he was Hobi's idol. 💜
This song is by far my favorite release from K-pop this year (Though It's an understatement to count Hobi and this masterpiece as K-pop). J-Hope is a musical genius, the guy went from MORE's grunge oldscool rock vibe to a LoFi hip-hop track. I'm rooting for J-Hope's future. He is a true artist, he has so many goals, ambitions, and love for what he is doing.
yes, from the underground to the rooftop, from the bottom to the top. This beautiful journey also inspired me. Thank you for this reaction. Your genuine comment moved my heart 💜💜
This song is special. I'm so proud and moved by it.
Thank you for the video!
JCOLE is such an amazing rapper and person. I met him during his first tour in 2011 and his character and his aura has always stuck with me. I’m so proud of hobi collabing with his idol 💜
"you find BTS when they need you the most." i remember army's saying this, but i also think it applies the other way around, especially after hearing what you said about their era of solo music resonating with you at the season of life that you're in. it's strange & amazing at the same time.
you are one of those people for me, PD. i checked out your channel again after seeing your update in the community tab. your reactions are invaluable to me because they provide a lot of insight and honestly, a lot of soul. watching this rn, i am also in a time of my life where i'm trying to pursue my passions.
you don't know me, and i don't know you. (the same goes with j-hope.) but through living out your truth, and doing what you love to do, you are inspiring people like me. if you ever read this, i hope you know that you are valued, appreciated, admired, and respected, PD. you have my (and a lot of other people's) love & support. have a good one ❤
ps. love the color grading in your reaction video, it looks so refreshing to me for some reason 🌊✨
J cole still out here changing peoples lives with his lyrics
So glad to see you! Was looking for your reaction the most. This song definitely made me emotional as well, I’m so proud of Hobi. Give JCole a listen if you ever have some time, he’s amazing.
im still sad everytime i listen this songl, I love so much Hobi
Been watching your reviews for about a year now, I appreciate your takes. I'm glad you felt this song so deeply as it truly was a deep song. If you give J. Cole a listen, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Love Yourz from his Forest Hills Drive Album. Keep it up and good luck out there!
this song and MV are pure perfection to me!
I love that you also felt the same as I did about wanting to look into J. Cole after this collab. That line about the daughter growing also hit me hard as well
This song has a really special place in my heart... it's really touching
What a beautiful heartfelt honest reaction! Yes. He gives all of us Hope. He speaks the Truth. The whistling. It just came to JHope one day. He wrote it down...and thus this song.
thank you for this reaction, pd! personally, i think this collaboration is one of their best collaborations. it's just so good.
This song is perfect 🤩
I am so happy to see you again! I am also quite happy you appreciated this song as I agree with your opinion. You seem so much happier these days and I wish your HOPE grows and it makes you content as well as happy!!!
Not me, crying all over again.
hey this is such a beautiful gift from them. so nice.
probably what you describe here is jhopes motivation as an artist. its not an obsession, hope, its real. we need this.
Jcole is so good he just kills and takes over any feature he’s on
I find this comment quit un respectfull.....j hope has talent tooo thats why he is so popular and i am actually a bigger fan of j hope he has great music and rap and vocals and always the lyrics
@@gamingwithpro7644the comment is not disrespectful to jhope in any way. We know he is amazing and he is a great artist. But jcole just dominates the song in terms of rapping. We are not saying that jhope is bad, we are just saying that jcole is incredible
@@gamingwithpro7644 bro how did you even have that take...
@@gamingwithpro7644 we don’t care bro plus hold this ratio
@@gamingwithpro7644stick to gaming pls
Jhope's music is prolly my fave among them ❤
He’s amazing. I love this. 💜👑🇹🇷
Thank you PD for your reaction! This video was so moving in so many ways. jhope and jcole really did that.
💜🇧🇷💜JHope wants to send a positive message for Army’s before he goes t his military service and, having JCole join his song was a dream come true for him. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I had a similar emotional response. This was such a good song and an amazing collab… it was a real honour to have you be vulnerable in a way I haven’t seen form you before, thanks for going deep. Good luck in Seoul! I’ll be there in June
JHope and JCole , that was such a powerful collaboration. Beautiful messages from both sides. JHOPE received a lot of hate from some JCole’s fans and some reactors don’t even care to listening to JHOPE part of the song, but some of them where open minded and want to find out about JHOPE, eventually liking him and BTS. Thanks 🙏 for your reaction.
I MISSED PD'S REACTIONS!!! Only trust this page for reactions! I feel so validated every time I hear PD's opinions. Keep it up!!!
Wow I didn't cried when the song was released but now you have me here with tears 🥹 Thank you for your review and your words it made me to feel in love with this song again
You look great and seem much more relaxed and authentic. I'm grateful to see you back again.
Jhope King ❤❤
Enjoyed the video and your love for JHope! Thanks for being real!
Love love your reaction PD! I miss J-Hope and i miss Hobi even more. Both spoiled us sooo much before their military enlistment that it's weird to not see him somewhere now. But i am waiting for him to get back soon 💜💜
Jcole’s verse was seriously amazing
Man .. naur me crying with you, staph 🥺 Also I FULLY get you about J.Hope, BTS definitely changed my life, but J.Hope really moves me. His lyrics are so relatable.
This collab hit fr
Yes you def should get into JCole, he’s an amazing rapper and lyricist. He’s also Hobi’s idol and muse since he was growing up
When I realised j-hope was giving his hero the spotlight while he literally DANCED UNDERGROUND was when the tears came.
I love this song so much!!
Beautyfull song....
I’m not even halfway this video so I’m not sure if you mentioned it, but I really love the small detail during the transition between j-hope’s part and j cole, which is the exit sign in the train station. I interpret is as an indication of jhope ending his part of the song, thus he is “exiting.” It’s a veerrry minor detail but I just wanted to share it cause it’s really neat!
im always crying when i watch this masterpiece
YES !!! Jcole is crazy talented definitely have ur friend give u some recommendations to react too !! I would love to watch
Yes, it made me so so emotional
The song is beautiful and I can't believe I missed it when it got released. Thanks PD for reacting to it so I could react to it with you :)
