Fat heavy barrels, are usually only good for 3 - 5 shots, because they don't cool down as quick as a thinner profile barrel, that's why I choose medium-heavy barrel profiles on all my rifles even my 2,000 yard competition rifles,,, just thought I would mention what has worked for me for over 35 years. Great video WTW.....
I have 3 Ruger Americans,. One was a little off,and after about 8 months they just replaced it,. With slight upgrade, (camo stock), All three are fantastic shooters, my 350 is notorious for same hole shots at 100yds,. 350 legend is my favorite right now. 👍
I love the 35 caliber in general--the 35's put game down on the spot! For 2 decades I reloaded the 350 Rem Magnum using bullets designed for much lower velocity rounds--but on a deer it was instant death. I was using the 180 Speer and using max loads for aprox 3,000 fps--it was amazing that every animal dropped in it's tracks. Accuracy was superb and the carbines can't be beat for quick handling and easy to carry in the filed. Thnx for another great video!
Another awesome 350 video sir. You are very correct in saying you sure more love for the 350 legend than anyone else. I'm loving my twin Ruger American and love watching you give yours a run 👍
I think it's more less how the gun handled the ammo given its temperature. I know I talk about my Mosin a lot, but that's because I have so much trigger time behind it. That said, my Mosin does the same thing. With one type of round, the groups are 1.3"-1.9". Once it heats up, the groups grow to around 2.1"-3.2". Then with a different round, I can stay around 1.6"-2.0" groups even when the barrel gets hot enough to burn your hand. I have also seen similar happen with my 20" AR I tested for ammo accuracy. Not all bullets behave the same way out of the same gun with a cold or hot barrel. I don't know why or the physics behind it all but I know it happens, lol. I still need to shoot my 350L, just been waiting for decent weather and the time to do it. I've also recently just got my 50 BMG in finally, so I'm super excited to shoot that as well.
I've got a howa in .308 and 6.5 Creed. The .308 is pretty picky with ammo but is sub moa with a couple loads. My 6.5 is sub .5 moa with everything i've put through it. absolutely blows me away. Love em both but certainly can't go wrong with a ruger american either!
Making adjustments and going the wrong way on occasion IS A THING! I appreciate you not editing those things out. We all make mistakes. Keep up the good work.
I’m definitely a fan of both the ruger American and the .350 legend. And happen to have both although strangely I thought the heavier barrel would have took a few more shots to start opening up the groups. I guess it depends on what you send through them on how fast they heat up.
I have a 1500 Howa, all “Mercia” Cerokete of course it’s in 6.5 CM as well great shooting rifle, but dang that barrel warms up!!!Forget it, it’s so heavy with no flutes, yep & Nope! You’re spot on …
I can second that about the Howa. I have a Howa 1500 .270 and I cannot use factory loads out of it. When the barrel gets hot it’s all over the place. I reload to the lower end of the reload specs and I can shoot 5-8 before the shoots start opening up. Factory loads would start right after the first shoot. Great video!
I don’t ever get a second shot when hunting, either I miss horribly and deer runs away or I drop him in his tracks, actually I’m hunting with a single shot Winchester 1885 in .270 Winchester my Barrel never gets hot !!
Use a chronograph on every shot and if a wild shot is recorded traveling at a very different velocity, you know why it opened up, and it was the ammo, not the gun. All guns have a certain bullet weight and powder charge combination that the barrel harmonics just love to throw to the same place.
Hard to beat the Ruger American especially for the $. I have the Ranch in 450 great shooter once I figured out the scope rail needed to be lock tighted down. Light, quick pointing, great trigger and accurate.
I have the same 450. I tried the Hornady American Whitetail 245 gr interlocks and I got 3 shot groups of 1/2" - 3/4" at 100 yds. Most accurate loads I've tried and the bullets stay together with the interlock construction
Nice shooting. The Howa showed it is beast with the one shot(or three) cold barrel. Crazy how heat affects it. The Rugars are downright amazingly consistent. Enjoy these videos. Can't wait for the Grendel, especially the 100 yard sight in, ammo test, bullet drop and 1000 yard blast. Hope you shoot some Fort Scott TUI ammo through the Grendel as well as Hornady Custom SST. Thanks for the great videos.
If you hand load for the .350 Legend watch the overall length of the cartridge(OAL). Since the cartridge headspaces on the mouth of the case OAL is critical. If the case is over length, you will have issues closing the bolt and in an AR you will have stoppages. I just did 60 cases of once fired brass and had to trim them all. I miced every case before and after. The recommended trim length is 1.700, but I trimmed all to 1.702, just because it was really tough to get consistent.
Now that was a fun video , and that's a great set of group's , Ruger sure isn't the most expensive rifle but they have impressed me over the years ! Stay Strong 💪 🙏🇺🇸
Love the Boyd's stock. I went with the same shady camo laminate on my 350 legend AR build set up for Midwest whitetail hunting. It was my favorite AR until I lost it and every other firearm I owned when I rolled my side by side over in the creek on range day!
i never carry all my firearms together for that exact reason. that being said.....i lost half of them in a sxs fire, melted them all. then in another stroke of bad luck....you guessed it, fishing accident took the rest of them. 😆
Wow pretty good grouping WTW, you gotta be happy with that ammo, surprising it wasn't that far off the other stuff you used, at least if you run out of one you can confidently use something else
I wish Henry firearms would make a lever action in the 350 legend. It would have to be on the Long Ranger frame with the magazine fed because of the pointed bullets.
@@trentfox6436 The .357 magnum is not even close to the .350 Legend. All loads in .357 mag comparable to the Legend (150, 170, 180 grs.) are sub 2000 fps with pressures at 40,000 psi and below. The Legend runs well over 2000 fps at the muzzle with all pressures well above 50,000 psi. A classic lever action rifle like the Marlin or Winchester will never be loaded for .350 Legend because of the pressures. The newer locking lug lever actions with a detachable magazine like the Henry Long Ranger or the Browning BLR could be easily loaded with the Legend round.
@@trentfox6436 I apologize. You are correct. I was thinking .357 magnum, not maximum. I was able to find the maximum in the pistol reloading and its ballistics do approach the .350 Legend in velocity of the 180 grain bullet and pressures are significantly lower.
I have a bunch of Bing bangs but 350 legend is not on the list. not a very popular round for taking feral pig or wild cow. or feral goat. those are the 3 game animals I go after here on the Big Island. Aloha brother, another interesting video thanks for the information. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
great practical hunter info, old or not! usps "supposed" to deliver my new low profile cantilever scope mount tomorrow for my new cva 350 single shot...if scope fits right tomorrow, let the lining out games begin! thanks again for down to earth videos!!
Love the 350 Legend bul-lot! I love to shoot in a gun vice also. Just take 3 shots and if group is good, move vice/scope to where cross-hairs are in center of group and move wind-age and elevation to bulls-eye. Quick and easy and no time for barrel to heat up. Best shots from my gun are when it is Cold/clean. The RA rifles are great guns for the price.
Would like to see you test this ammo in a Winchester XPR. Longer barrel and very good trigger out of the box. Just curious what effect on a longer barrel will have with the 350 legend.
350 Tigers just in the Buda Texas Cabela’s getting one end of the month most likely top it with Strike Eagle 1x-8x lots of ammo formit seen there too. Thank you as you helped me decided to buy
I really feel that a 350 Legend will be taking up residency in my gun safe soon ! I love my 357 mag lever, and I think the 350 Legend would be somewhat similar but with more SAUCE. ❤️ from Canada God Bless the USA 🇺🇸
I’m really loving the 350 legend. When it first came out I thought it was all marketing hype. With three shot groups on a strait wall cartridge I seriously doubt barrel heat is much of an issue with the small powder charges.
Dammit! You sold me. Now I gotta build a new upper. Funny thing about barrels is they seem to be designed exclusive of mounting type and cons of them. Like, it's not so much the barrel heating up, but that the cooling area around it varies. This can cause subtle changes in barrel dimension radially and longitudinally changing the characteristics and performance. Hence having a free floating barrel. Having DLC treatment to the bores would be best as it is hard to heat them up.
Now you got me curious. I'm wondering about any real difference between the .350 Legend and my all-time favorite deer and hog round, the .35 Remington. If you happen up on a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington and a couple of boxes of 200grn JSP ammo I'd be really interested in seeing a comparison to the .350 Legend.
That Ruger of yours has always shot well. You got a good one so don't ever get rid of it. One of those boys of yours will be smokin deer with it when we're all dead and gone.
The difference in zoomies might have been the variant? After all the different brands of ammo that you have tested on various calibers, have you developed a preference for any particular brand?
My only concern did mount come loose or rate of twist not right for bullet. I had that problem with howa in 22-250 rate of twist was not right for heavier bullets, mine was all over the map. I also do not let barrel cool down enough when sighting in, we should remember that when we go hunting it is usually during colder weather and we do not heat up barrel of gun while waiting. Just sayin'... And if that is you singing at the end of your videos... you are good, man...
350 legend is a new caliber for me. I'll have to find out more about that round. What popular calibers is it close to just to compare to another round I'm more familiar with?
I don’t know if anyone noticed but the howa rear scope mount is coming off the rail or it’s cockeyed on the rail. Shot fine but eventually it comes loose don’t think?
port the last 8" of barrel, put a form 1 integral on it and that'd be one heck of a 250yd deer rifle lol. 300gr lead rebated boat tails at 1080 with bluedot? sign me up if that rifle had a faster twist

Just straight walled and AR compatible?🤷♂️

This caliber seems like a re-invented 357 Maximum.
That is SWEET! There's only 50+ other guns that will take down a deer? Another good choice! LGBFJB!
It looks like the clamp behind the nut is out of place on the rear ring, good vid.
Yup. Just fixed it
Those RA are really good for the money 🔥🔥
350 legend is a new caliber for me. I'll have to find out more about that round. What popular calibers is it close to just to compare to another round I'm more familiar with?
Not terribly close to anything
Really good groups.....thanks wtw

Nice guns. This is what kills me. You have a Howa rifle with a Boyd’s stock and a Kmart scope on it.
Is not a Kmart scope. Actually a very nice scope
I don’t know if anyone noticed but the howa rear scope mount is coming off the rail or it’s cockeyed on the rail. Shot fine but eventually it comes loose don’t think?
Saw that after the video. Wasn't loose, was very tight but crooked. Could have been the problem
Thanks for the video.
That's interesting what happened on that 2nd Howa group 🤔
port the last 8" of barrel, put a form 1 integral on it and that'd be one heck of a 250yd deer rifle lol. 300gr lead rebated boat tails at 1080 with bluedot? sign me up if that rifle had a faster twist
Good video , Thanks
Thanks for watching Bob
165 Hornady FTX 100 yard gel test please. 350 legend!!
Pretty impressive but you shouldn’t adjust the scope while testing loads.
Great stuff! 👍
Thanks for watching Nathan
If ya think about it. A thinner barrel is going to cool quicker. More metal less cooling 🙃. Just saying.
I should try another type of ammo in the Howard before I will give up on it, speed, weight manufacturer .......
RUGER RUGER RUGER. ALL THE WAY.
I love my Ruger rifles, I just wish they'd put in more work on their semi auto pistols.
